No King But Caesar

by Chuck Baldwin on Thursday, April 4th, 2013

This is article 173 of 241 in the topic Religion

With the Easter message fresh on my mind, I am again reminded of what the Jewish leaders said to Pilate when they tried to coerce him to crucify Jesus. They said, “We have no king but Caesar.” Remember, these were the Jewish Pharisees, scribes, elders, priests, and high priests. They prided themselves in being scholars of the Torah. They believed themselves to be the sole interpreters of the Mosaic Law. Yet, the very First Commandment of the Decalogue handed down to Moses is, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” But in order to stay in the good graces of the Roman government, they emphatically proclaimed that they recognized no king but Caesar.

Remember, Caesar insisted that everyone recognize him to be, not only king, but God. To be loyal to Rome, one had to acknowledge the deity of Caesar. One could worship any other god that one wanted to, as long as Caesar was acknowledged as Sovereign. Historians famously say that there were as many gods in Rome as people. Rome prided itself in being religiously pluralistic and tolerant. First Century Christians were not persecuted because they worshipped Jesus; they were persecuted because they refused to worship Caesar; they refused to acknowledge the sovereignty of Caesar. It was for this reason that early Christians were fed to lions and made sport of in the amphitheaters.

In their desire to use the Roman government to advance their own agenda (crucifying Christ and later His disciples and apostles), the Jewish leaders were quite willing to acknowledge the deity and sovereignty of Caesar–even though doing so was a blatant violation of the First Commandment given by Jehovah to Moses. Is it a little more than interesting that after conducting a secret, illegal trial of Jesus and blaspheming God in declaring Caesar king that they immediately afterward sat down to observe the Passover? No wonder Jesus called them “Hypocrites.”

“What does all of this have to do with modern America?” you ask. Everything!

Anytime a pastor or church uses Romans 13 to teach that Christians should submit to government “no matter what,” they are joining the First Century Jewish leaders in saying, “We have no king but Caesar.” Wittingly or unwittingly, they have made a god out of government. And by doing so, they have violated the First Commandment and blasphemed the God they claim to serve. They are like the Jewish leaders who declared unlimited submission to Caesar then sat down to observe the Passover. These modern pastors and church leaders do the same thing: they declare unlimited submission to government and then go through the exercise of conducting a Christian worship service, complete with songs of praise, recitations of scripture, and collecting tithes and offerings. Are they not as guilty of blasphemy and hypocrisy as were the First Century Jewish leaders?

Another statement that leaped out at me as I rehearsed the Easter story last Sunday was spoken by the Lord Jesus.

Serious Questions and Answers on the Coming of Antichrist

by Rev. Michael Bresciani on Sunday, July 1st, 2012

This is article 109 of 241 in the topic Religion

imagescajy7w77frt6We have endured the wild speculations of a lot of would be Bible interpreters of prophecy and as a result a long list of potential ‘antichrists’ has come and gone. The bible promises that at the appropriate moment he will be ‘revealed,’ (2 Th 2: 3) but for some the temptation to name the man before the time is too great. Taking a chance at making a fool of themselves is not the worst of the matter, but mis-leading the believer and creating more confusion in the minds of unbelievers is. Here is the bottom line; when he (antichrist) arrives to begin his rule, no one in this world will miss seeing who he is.

Although the bible does not name the antichrist it does offer a lot of information about his nature and the means by which he comes to power. His short lived rule will be the most tumultuous in history. It will start as the hope of the world, but will end in the final judgment of the earth and transference of all power out of the hands of men. The unlearned call it the end of the world but the truth is diametrically opposite. At the end of antichrist’s rule Christ re-enters the history of men, in person, and removes both antichrist and the spirit (Satan) by which he ruled. Next, according to scripture, Jesus Christ begins his divine rule from Jerusalem for a period of 1,000 years.

“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” (Rev 20: 4)

Before naming some of the worst interpretations of second coming doctrine to arrive on the scene these days it does well to quickly go over a few rules of interpretation.  Each of the interpretations of second coming that are untenable, spurious or completely out of order will be seen to fail one or more of the following rules provided to keep both the novice and the seasoned expert from error.

(1.)   Rule one is the simplest. Think it through. If the view you have arrived at cannot not pass the common sense test it will never hold up under divine scrutiny and scriptural comparison. Is it anywhere near plausible, possible or provable? After checking historicity, precedent and plausibility if it doesn’t hold promise – dump it. If you don’t possess a ‘sound doctrine’ (Titus 2: 1) to start with, it may do well to put your thoughts aside for greater scrutiny and comparison. Keep foremost in your thoughts that speculation is not sound doctrine.

(2.)   If you find you are standing alone or nearly alone in your view that may be the first indicator that you have come out from Holy Spirit inspired conclusions. Peter said “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” (2 Pet 1: 20) Paul insisted that we all spoke the same thing because he knew we would all be taught by the same spirit.

John Roberts: another stealth leftist

by Sher Zieve on Thursday, June 28th, 2012

This is article 39 of 59 in the topic US Supreme Court

It appears that We-the-People, the US Constitution and the USA are now sunk. CJ Roberts has now shown his true stripes as a leftist. In order to do away with the true argument that the Congressional ruling establishing ObamaCare would be charged as a fee for being born and living in the USA, Roberts changed ObamaCare to a tax — which Obama had argued previously and intensely stated was NOT a tax — in order to mollify and please his true leader.

However, during the oral arguments, Obama’s lawyers ruled it IS a tax. In what I view as an act of brazen disregard for the US Constitution, Roberts sided with the Marxists on the US Supreme Court in ruling that Americans can be controlled by the (now) totalitarian government and be forced to pay it for simply being born.

We are in trouble as never before, folks, and I suspect that many more (who are able) will renounce their citizenship and leave this once-blessed country. Under now-openly totalitarian CJ Roberts, SCOTUS has now joined the Executive and Legislative branches. Apparently, this is what he planned all along. With Roberts assistance, the enslavement of the American people appears to now be complete.

What to do? Only one thing I know. The US States need to form a large and broad coalition in order to fight against the Obama syndicate’s wholly-owned federal government. Obama is already nullifying the Tenth Amendment — as well as the rest of the Bill of Rights. The States need to fight this as a large combined group. This will be our last hope for survival. If we don’t…we finished and the end will be oppression worse than Josef Stalin’s USSR and Hitler’s Germany.

“And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” — Revelation 13:4

The First Lady’s Curious Theology

by Rev. Michael Bresciani on Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

This is article 573 of 1001 in the topic Obama

angry-Michelle.jpg

In America We Elect presidents, we don’t worship them. But the Weekly Standard blog offered a headline on April 17, 2012 that could be filed under ‘seeing it is still too hard to believe.’

In a short piece by Daniel Halper the headline was “Michelle Obama: ‘This President Has Brought Us Out of the Dark and Into the Light’ If it were not a direct quote taken from Michelle Obama’s rally speech at a campaign event in Nashville, Tennessee earlier the same day, we could only imagine that some virulent anti-Obama politico went too far and just made up a false and despiteful headline to hurt the Obama campaign. But the headline is quite true.

Here is what is apparent. The Weekly Standard is no religious website and Daniel Harper is no dialectical theological giant like Karl Barth or a great expositor of the scriptures like Charles Haddon Spurgeon, but it is also apparent that he wasn’t trying to be.

No one needs to be a theological giant to see that Michelle has overstepped the bounds of both common political discourse and sound theology. Jesus Christ alone is the light of the world (Mt 4: 16) and the power to dispel darkness is his alone to wield.

The theology of the Bible makes two things very clear. One is that angels are superior in every way to man, the other is that no angel in Old or New Testament ever allowed themselves to be worshipped. Most of them claimed to be messengers or servants of the Lord and abruptly halted any attempt to worship them. No Christian who has seen these examples would suspend the lessons taught by these examples and then worship a man, even if he is a sitting U.S. President.

In the one instance where a crowd was allowed to worship an orator after he delivered a speech, that orator (Herod) was stricken by an angel of the Lord and fell down dead. (Acts 12: 19 – 24) This event was also attested to by Josephus, the most widely known historian of the New Testament period.

Being on the subject of theology is why we must also compare the Obama policy, position and product on such matters as the gay agenda, abortion and recent offences against both Catholic and Protestant churches with the extravagant outbursts of his wife.

Abortion, the gay life and interference with the churches doctrine and polity are all one hundred percent diametrically opposed to biblical doctrine. How do we get light from this?

In fact, if anything, when Obama policy is compared to scripture the one conclusion that is impossible to miss is that he is spreading the darkness and subduing the light.

Perhaps someone should inform Michelle that in today’s climate of economic hardships and uncertainty most Americans are waiting on Obama to dispel the debt not the darkness. It is also apparent to Americans, that at the moment, he has not managed to dispel either one.

We may expect the wives of our statesmen and politicians to be supportive and exuberant about the work of their husbands, but we still take exception with any attempt to raise them to the level of Deity.

Obama, the Liberals and the Apostates – A Legacy of Division

by Rev. Michael Bresciani on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

accross-the-great-divide.jpgEveryone from preachers to comedians has at some time been heard to quote Christ’s famous line from Matthew’s gospel, “every city or house divided against itself shall not stand.” (Mt 12: 25) But today is not the day that people in this nation are gathering around the Bible to hear the wisdom from above. We are a nation with gadgets in our hands that are full of apps, pics and text waiting for the digital meanderings of the electronics wizards to be transferred to our brains.

President Obama, his liberal cadre and the Church’s apostates are a trinity, together they make up modernity’s deity, worshipped by the liberal, secularized, sottish, silly and self absorbed. We all know it, and perhaps we thought we could bear with it for a while, here in the land of freedom and bi-partisanship. What has actually happened in this great experiment turns out to be far more destructive than we could have imagined, in a word it is diametrically opposite of the familiar ‘E Pluribus Unum’ it is now pure division without unity.  Is it now ‘E Pluribus Magis Divortium?’

Those who are not paying homage to the god of division may be half consciously following the newly introduced god formed by the national and worldwide deification of sex. The priests of the new religion are the lesbians, gays, transgenders and bi-sexuals who have convinced their crowds of adherents and newly indoctrinated that they are the emerging new social class vying for freedom and equality, as the black community once did in the Deep South.

While millions are giving in to the awareness campaigns of the new religion of sex; for the rest of us it has created, yet more division. Whether its nature, traditional values, biblical mandates or simple gut feelings, millions of citizens have determined not to join the nascent religion of the hour. The bottom line is an iceberg of Magis Divortium, for a nation already beleaguered with enough division to sink the Titanic several times over.

With California leading the pack with new legislation to insure that children are taught about the gay life, it is apparent that head way is being made in the deification of sex. President Obama long ago assured his believers that Apostle Paul’s condemnation of homosexual behavior was part of a very obscure passage in the Bible, but the fact is, that the book of Romans is one of the newest of the books of the bible and is counted to be among the top five most trustworthy books of the entire bible.

What liberals have not managed to detach from the solidity of the American experiment, the church’s apostates have carved up for the rest of us! Strained proof texts are used to labor the ridiculous idea that God no longer speaks directly to man. According to them we should ignore every preacher from Billy Graham to Charles Stanley who so much as dared to use the phrase, ‘God spoke to my heart.’

The Prophet Joel promised that in the last days God would provide more prophets, visionaries and female evangelists to meet the ensuing final events leading up to the second coming of Christ.
