Maybe family members of men slain in Benghazi should seek information from Al Jazeera instead of the US government

by Doug Powers on Friday, September 20th, 2013

This is article 231 of 246 in the topic Congressional Investigations

At yesterday’s Benghazi hearing, Utah Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz wondered how in the world Al Jazeera obtained a copy of the investigative panel’s report before Congress:

At a Thursday House Oversight and Government Reform hearing on Benghazi, Chaffetz asked Mark Sullivan, the chairman of the Independent Panel of Best Practices, how lawmakers in Congress could have learned about the report on Al Jazeera.

The report found that the State Department knew of security problems in Benghazi and failed to do anything about it. Chaffetz said Congressmen still do not have the report while Al Jazeera America has had it for a month.

Also at yesterday’s hearing, all but two Democrats on the Oversight Committee walked out before family members of those killed in the attack testified:

Some of those Dems probably fear being put into the position of being told to look at family members, such as the mother of Sean Smith in the video below from yesterday, and tell her it’s a “phony scandal”:

These poor people are going to the U.S. government for answers when, according to Rep. Chaffetz, they might get more information by asking Al Jazeera what happened.

All that’s certain is that this isn’t nearly enough of an explanation, and yet it’s all we’ve gotten so far:

The long term (may be permanent) damage Obama has done to investigative reporters

by John Lott on Friday, June 21st, 2013

This is article 471 of 571 in the topic Media

The big problem here is that once a government shows that it is willing to break its own rules, even if it says that it had good reasons, how will anyone who sees a government abuse ever come forward and tell the press?  This is time where we will never be able to get back to where we used to be.  From the Associated Press:

The US government’s secret seizure of Associated Press phone records had a “chilling effect” on newsgathering by the agency and other news organizations, AP’s top executive said Wednesday.

“Some longtime trusted sources have become nervous and anxious about talking with us,” AP president and chief executive Gary Pruitt said in a speech to the National Press Club.

“In some cases, government employees we once checked in with regularly will no longer speak to us by phone. Others are reluctant to meet in person … This chilling effect on newsgathering is not just limited to AP.

“Journalists from other news organizations have personally told me that it has intimidated both official and nonofficial sources from speaking to them as well.” . . .

From Politico:

Associated Press president Gary Pruitt on Wednesday slammed the Department of Justice for acting as “judge, jury and executioner” in the seizure of the news organization’s phone records and he said some of the wire service’s longtime sources have clammed up in fear.

Pruitt said the department broke its own rules with the seizure, which he said was too broad, and by failing to give the AP notice of the subpoena. Pruitt questioned the DoJ’s actions concerning the subpoena — had the DoJ come to the news organization in advance, “we could have helped them narrow the scope of the subpoena” or a court could have decided, he said.

“There was never that opportunity,” Pruitt said during a speech at the National Press Club in D.C. “Instead the DoJ acted as judge, jury and executioner in private, in secret.” . . . .

Note that the government has gone after James Rosen, Sharyl Attkisson, and William Lajeunesse.  Three of the best investigative reporters.  The AP also apparently posed a problem.

If the US Government Won the Latest Powerball Jackpot

by Doug Powers on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012

This is article 422 of 526 in the topic Government Spending

Yesterday morning I ran across this and thought it helped put our government’s insane level of spending into perspective…

The most recent Powerball jackpot was $570 million. Just for fun, let’s assume the Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner went into Turbo-Mart and bought a ticket on behalf of the U.S. government. Then let’s assume that the government was the lone winner of the jackpot (and just for kicks let’s stretch reality even further and assume the prize isn’t taxed).

At current spending levels, as the Heritage Foundation points out, that amount of money would fund the U.S. government for about one hour and 26 minutes.

Of course, that was yesterday. The length of time is probably down to about one hour and 24 minutes by now.

How the US Government Will Exploit the Aurora, Colorado Tragedy to Attack the Second Amendment and Ink the U.N. Small Arms Treaty on Gun Control

by Kevin A. Lehmann on Sunday, July 22nd, 2012

This is article 265 of 581 in the topic Gun Rights

It never ceases to amaze me that with every mass shooting, i.e. Columbine, Virginia Tech, Fort Hood, Tucson and now in Aurora, Colorado, that the conspiracy theories invariably make their rounds.

Although I agree with Alex Jones that the timing of these tragedies are a little uncanny, I think it’s a stretch to claim that our very own federal government would go so far as to plan and condone the mass killing of innocent Americans just to pass gun control legislation.

Eric Holder and company have proven to be the most incompetent DOJ of any presidential administration in the history of the United States — which is precisely why I don’t think they’re behind these massacres. Those imbeciles are just not smart enough to pull off such a sophisticated “Manchurian Candidate” type conspiracy.

By the same token, given the culture of violence we live in today, I disagree with the celebrity shrinks who claim that we can profile crackpots like James Holmes by recognizing certain behavior patterns and preempt future mass murdering sprees.

If that were the case, myself and a lot of other Americans would fit the profile and be planning our own mass shooting rampage. After all, I used to be rich and had to file bankruptcy; I’m angry at our statist government; I loathe Radical Islam; I am fairly reclusive; I feel depressed that Barack Obama occupies the White House; I rant against organized religion; I can’t stand liberalism; my stepmother refuses to give me one personal item of my deceased father; my neighbor is a perverted eavesdropping slime ball; I own a cache of weapons; I have a boatload of ammunition and I’m ready to defend myself against criminals and more importantly — an impending tyrannical government.

Uh Oh, you better Baker Act me!

If nothing else, this latest mass murdering spree coupled with the fact that Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are going to sign over our safety and sovereignty to the U.N. next week and officially begin their assault on the Constitution, the Second Amendment and the American people, underscores the urgency with which every American citizen should act in defending their freedom and protecting their family — by securing a weapon, preferably a semi-automatic or fully automatic rifle.

Why semi-automatic and automatic weapons . . .

Because of the occasional street thug or home-invasion robber?

No, to defend ourselves against a progressively utopian government that will exploit such massacres in a clandestine effort to deceive and disarm an unsuspecting and naively passive population that cries for better protection.

Fear is the perfect fuel.

Random acts of violence by nut cases like Holmes, Hasan, and Loughner are exploited by a utopian government to sell a gullible citizenry on reforming and improving the general welfare of the American people while it furtively grows in power and strength.

Alexis de Tocqueville, the French political thinker and historian said it best in Democracy in America when he wrote:

“By this system the people shake off their state of dependence just long enough to select their master and then relapse into it again.

Congress ignores Obama’s overt Exec Order and coup against US citizens

by Sher Zieve on Monday, March 19th, 2012

This is article 541 of 1011 in the topic Obama

After his effective coup against the United States Congress, in which he, his bought-and-paid-for “General” Dempsey and Communist Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta commanded that said Congress was now subservient to the United Nations, NATO and/or any other foreign power he decides on, Obama has now turned his sights back on the American people.

On Friday 16 March 2012, Dictator-in-Chief Obama signed his latest illegal Executive Order (only appearing to matter to US Constitutionalists whom his criminal syndicate calls “terrorists”), which he calls “National Defense Resources Preparedness.” This EO gives the Obama Syndicate the “right” to steal anything and everything from the American people they desire. These include but, are not limited to, food, energy, water, health, all civil transportation and all other materials, services and facilities. It also allows Obama’s now completely criminal government — whom neither Congress nor the courts have tried to stop in any way whatsoever — to nullify any contract (including what’s left of the now heavily-shredded US Constitution) made between the US government and any private company and/or the American people. It gives the Obama Syndicate total control of the US Government and total control of ALL resources — including everything formerly owned by you and me — of and in the USA.

Sec. 201. Priorities and Allocations Authorities. (a) The authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071, to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

(1) the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2) the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3) the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

(4) the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;

(5) the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and

(6) the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

In other words — for my leftist readers — this means Obama controls and can do with as he pleases EVERYTHING in what was formerly OUR country. Obama has now slapped the American people firmly in their faces with his gauntlet and has tossed it to the ground. He has dictated that he can declare peacetime Martial Law — at his discretion and at any time of his choosing (say shortly before the upcoming General election or after them when he loses?) — and become the “official” and recognized Dictator of ObamaLand.

This is it, folks. Time to choose up sides and prepare for the obvious war Obama is waging against us…and it’s now heated up markedly.

Oh, and by the way, Obama also issued another decree yesterday…his “Happy St. Patrick’s Day” card! Said decree demands all colleges and universities, despite their religious beliefs and tenets, must provide birth control and abortion drugs to their students. The dictator is on a roll and this time it’s over us with an Obama White House bulldozer.

Karzai: Put US Troops on Trial

by Doug Powers on Sunday, February 26th, 2012

This is article 66 of 117 in the topic Muslims/Koran

So is it pretty much time to bring all of our troops home and let Karzai fend for himself? The administration was looking to speed up the timetable for a pullout anyway, and things like this will help rush that along:

(CNSNews.com) – Three days after President Barack Obama dispatched his ambassador to Afghanistan to hand deliver a personal letter from the president of the United States to Afghan President Hamid Karzai apologizing because U.S. forces at Bagram Air Force Base had mistakenly burnt some Korans, Karzai has responded to the gesture in a statement broadcast live on Afghan television.

Karzai, according to a BBC translation of his remarks made Sunday, told the Afghan people he was speaking to them after discussing the matter with “jihadi leaders,” “prominent scholars,” and Afghan elected officials, and that he spoke for the “pure sentiments” of the “Afghan nation” and the “Islamic world,” when he said: “We call on the US government to bring the perpetrators of the act to justice and put them on trial and punish them.”

At the same time Karzai was demanding the prosecution and punishment of U.S. troops involved in the Koran-burning incident, he conceded that the U.S. government had indicated that the Koran burning “was not deliberate.”

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if the apologetic administration was actually chewing on Karzai’s request.

Maybe Obama should demand an apology from Karzai for this and this.

Here’s the apology that should have been delivered to Karzai:

Paradox of the Day: New US Government Initiative Designed to Protect US Economy From US Government Initiatives

by Doug Powers on Saturday, June 25th, 2011

This is article 77 of 190 in the topic Government Regulations

This is classic. President Obama recently signed another Executive Order, this time to create an initiative called “SelectUSA.” Here’s what it’s all about:

WASHINGTON — With the U.S. unemployment rate stubbornly above 9%, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke unveiled an initiative Wednesday to encourage U.S. and foreign companies to create more jobs in the United States.

Building on previous U.S. government efforts to attract foreign investment, the SelectUSA initiative will help U.S. states deal with federal regulations that may discourage an overseas company from investing in the United States or prompt a U.S. firm to look abroad, senior Commerce Department officials said.

Let me get this straight… the US government is creating maddening rules & regs that chase away business, which costs the US economy countless jobs and hammers GDP. So instead of simply not doing the things that are chasing off business and investment in the US, the government is going to spend taxpayer money to beg these companies to return to the US — apparently by granting waivers from federal regulations via some expensive and probably red-tape entangled “initiative”? I guess the message is clear: If you currently operate a business in the US, threaten to leave or actually leave and maybe you’ll be offered some relief from the idiocy. But first I’m sure they’ll want to see your track record on political donations.

The Obama administration recently said they were going to stop wasting so much money on website design and upkeep, so naturally SelectUSA has a brand new website.

New Government Stealth Internet-Because the last one failed

by Greg Hedgepath on Monday, June 13th, 2011

internet_suitcase

The New York Times ran an expose today on the new “stealth” internet funded by the Obama administration. This new “internet in a suitcase” can be deployed anywhere on the globe and allow dissidents living under oppressive regimes to communicate free from interference. But they did that already. It was called TOR (previously onion routing) and it failed so spectacularly that this new State Department project was created in a rush to replace it.

No mention is made in the Times article of TOR, nor does it mention that the US Government even tried to create something similar in the past. Well, they did. And as Michael Reed of the Naval Research Laboratory, and one of the creators of TOR, has spoken openly about the advantages of having everyone use your technology.

Reed verifies that having a line of communication that only the US Government would use is basically pointless. The trick is to get your enemies involved. That way they can not shut down their opposition without hurting themselves. However, TOR itself is not really anonymous and is extremely vulnerable. After all, if it worked so well then why the scramble to create something new?

During the State Department sponsored Alliance of Youth Movements in December 2008 the Egyptian revolution was planned for 2011. The sponsoring company, Howcast, even had instructional videos on anonymous web surfing and even suggests using TOR (3:32). During the Egyptian uprising Howcast spun off Movements.org to help aid the dissidents in the revolution. Upset that bloggers had drawn the conclusion that Howcast.com and Movements.org were one in the same, staff members made contact and asked them to delete or edit their posts; operating with government money of course.

Further examples of just how dangerous the use of government created TOR (and anonymizing software can be) appear more recently. When surface to air missiles were stolen from Libyan munition dumps live tracking was done on the ground. The operative on the ground had been in Libya for 20 years. Using TOR to communicate with US officials, and some private military contractors, his identity was revealed inside of 24 hours and leaked online.

The live tracking showed some missiles heading west into Mauritania and some heading east towards Somalia. Speculation was that they could make the short hop across the water to the Arabian Peninsula. A few weeks later a rocket attack injured Yemen president Saleh. How did Al-Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), who for years was limited to pistols, assault rifles, and IED’s, get their hands on missiles? Simple, they came from Libya and the flaws of TOR ousted a lifetime intel operative tracking their movement. 20 years of research and intel gathering down the tubes.

Also ousted and arrested with the help of TOR was Abdul Aziz bin Mohammed Al-Wahaibi along with seven other members of the Islamic Umma Party. Originally reported on Feb 14 All Voices confirmed this fact 5 days later.

Paul Krugman is a dishonest

by John Lott on Monday, December 20th, 2010

This is article 128 of 391 in the topic economy

I probably made a mistake in reading Krugman’s latest NY Times column.

It’s also worth pointing out that everything the right said about why Obamanomics would fail was wrong. For two years we’ve been warned that government borrowing would send interest rates sky-high; in fact, rates have fluctuated with optimism or pessimism about recovery, but stayed consistently low by historical standards.

Free-market economists haven’t arguing this. Free-market economists realize that we live in a world capital market. While the US government borrowing might be a significant portion of the US capital market, it is very tiny compared to the entire world’s capital market. For economists, there is also the discussion about Ricardian equivalence, the notion that people anticipate that higher deficits today mean higher taxes tomorrow. Even in a closed economy, the savings from that threat of higher will offset the increased borrowing. The first point about the size of the market is obviously true.

For two years we’ve been warned that inflation, even hyperinflation, was just around the corner; instead, disinflation has continued, with core inflation — which excludes volatile food and energy prices — now at a half-century low.

There has not been deflation. Over the last year, inflation has been at about 2 percent. The notion of core inflation is simply silly. Even if the money supply was constant and the velocity of money unchanged, some prices would go up and some would go down. The only way you can determine if there is inflation is by looking at all prices in the aggregate. As to why inflation hasn’t gone up with the increase in the money supply, M1, some free-market types have discussed this. There is no reason to expect Krugman to actually respond to these claims.

The free-market fundamentalists have been as wrong about events abroad as they have about events in America — and suffered equally few consequences. “Ireland,” declared George Osborne in 2006, “stands as a shining example of the art of the possible in long-term economic policymaking.”

Apparently, it is difficult for Krugman to realize that more than one factor is changing at a time. On the one hand, lower corporate income taxes made Ireland an attractive place to invest. On the other hand, the Irish government guaranteeing its banks against default in the fall of 2008 caused them to take riskier positions than they otherwise would have taken. The US government also played a significant role in creating bank problems around the world by Fannie and Freddie mislabeling the housing mortgages that they bundled together.

Right now Mr. Obama is hailing the tax-cut deal as a boost to the economy — but Republicans are already talking about spending cuts that would offset any positive effects from the deal.

How about this discussion: “The problem with this multiplier claim is pretty simple. First, the money has to come from some place.
Second, everyone spends their money one way or another.

Are Obama’s perversions becoming even more pronounced?

by Sher Zieve on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

We already know that Obama’s mentor and facilitator George Soros considers the manipulation destruction of countries and their peoples an enjoyable game. Soros looks at said countries and humans as mere puppets in his playpen, useful only to satisfy his wicked desires to control them — totally. On 3 June 1993, Soros is quoted — one of his more benign ones — by the Independent as commenting: “It is sort of a disease when you consider yourself some kind of god, the creator of everything. But, I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out!” Megalomania is a Soros attribute. And as a perennial persona non grata, he has been thrown out of multiple countries (including Great Britain and Malaysia) and banned from returning to them. Now he has laid the plans and — with Obama’s assistance — is in the process of destroying the USA. The Obama seems to be following his master’s every command. Let’s take a look at what Soros’ apprentice has already accomplished. These are accomplishments of which The Obama is proud — very proud, indeed!

1.Obama has stolen most of US taxpayers monies and — via new intrusive programs — is bent upon taking the rest of it

    2. Obama has given his billions of his ill-gotten dollar gains to foreign countries (including China) for THEIR work forces, while eliminating (now at 30 million and rising) American jobs

    3. He has effectively nationalized the auto and financial industries and now seems to have his sights set on the airline industry. Note: The US Government already controls the US train system via Amtrak

    4. Obama now controls our bodies, medical care and the time of our deaths via his massive and all-intrusive and forced-down-our-throats “ObamaCare” — a program that has little to do with health care but, everything to do with control of human bodies and minds

    5. Although the TSA was installed before The Usurper Obama assumed power over We-the-People, he is now using it as his personal “conditioning the masses” tool. Not only are adults being sexually groped but, more and more frightened and screaming children are also. I’ve included a number of source references at the end of this column but, there are simply too many to include all of them here

    6. Although I presume not all TSA agents are as vicious as the ones depicted are, the TSA has — for reasons we now know — announced that ALL cameras will be confiscated and no one may now film the sexual, humiliating and still illegal-in-any-other-venue groping by TSA agents. By the way, where are the decent TSA agents? Have they contacted their union and advised them they will not proceed with these aberrant behaviors? If not, why not? Note: Folks, this has nothing to do with security but, everything to do with the Obama/Soros program to create an even larger group of Sheeple — those willing to submit to anything and everything. More control of humans so they will march more submissively to some newly-planned gas chambers?

    7.
