It’s a testament to the intelligence level of liberals that they prefer nursery rhymes to ideas. Whether it’s Auden’s “Those to whom evil is done, Do Evil in Return” (a verse from a Communist poet partially justifying Hitler’s invasion of Poland, that he later disavowed) or “What Would Gandhi Do?” (give up and hope his enemies felt bad while cutting off his head) or the most famous nursery rhyme of them all, “First they came for the Communists.”
This particular nursery rhymes endeavors to explain Nazis from a leftist perspective, in which Hitler’s triumph occurred because no one spoke out when Communists were being imprisoned. When in doubt, the left and various useful idiots routinely trot out revised versions of this nursery rhyme. The current popular formulation on the left is “First they came for the Terrorists.” (The Cato Institute’s attempt to write one called “First they came for the Sex Offenders and then the Terrorists” proved to be wildly unpopular as no one outside the Cato Institute or maybe its liberal counterpart, the ACLU, sympathizes with sex offenders and terrorists at the same time.)
So it’s completely unsurprising that the Ground Zero Mosque defenders have trotted out the “First they came for the Communists” nursery rhyme. Keith Olbermann did it, while suggesting that resisting the Ground Zero Mosque puts us on a path to the Holocaust. Olbermann went on to claim that Muslims in the US were at greater risk of terrorism than non-Muslims (which would be news to the actual recent targets of terrorism, who included soldiers in Fort Hood, airline passengers and anyone walking through Times Square.) And of course Olbermann hung it all on that infamous nursery rhyme and Martin Niemoller.
There are a number of problems with that. First Niemoller is not the author of the nursery rhyme, it’s loosely based on some of his statements. Secondly, Niemoller went from being a Nazi sympathizer, to being a Communist sympathizer. That incidentally is the same message implicit in the poem itself. A man who supported Hitler and then supported Communist tyrants, including Ho Chi Minh is a spectacularly bad choice as a moral guide.
Had Niemoller come out of the war with the understanding that supporting totalitarian movements is bad, he might have been passably worth paying attention to. But instead Niemoller switched from sympathizing with Nazism, because he thought it would make for a better world, to sympathizing with Communism, because he thought it would make for a better world. He accepted the Lenin Prize, joined the World Peace Movement, and did what he could to undermine NATO, Europe and the United States.
Niemoller did not actually understand why Nazism was bad. Instead he now knew that Nazism was bad, but he was unable to apply that understanding in any meaningful way. Instead, like so many on the left, he decided that the nearest equivalent to Nazi Germany was the United States, because it was nationalistic, capitalistic and had a large military that killed a lot of people. That brand of moral idiocy led him to dub Truman, “The greatest murderer in the world” and to suggest that “the rich must be smashed in order to build human brotherhood.”
The real lesson of Niemoller’s story is that he went from being one kind of Nazi to being another kind of Nazi, putting off the red and black, and putting on the red and yellow instead. The common denominator was that both insisted on “One World or No World”, which was also the title of Niemoller’s book. If Niemoller were alive today, there is little doubt that he would endorse the “First they came for the terrorists” formulation. Which is exactly the point.
Liberals pretended that Communism was the opposite of Nazism. Today they pretend that Islam is the opposite of Nazism. The reality is that accounting for cultural and ideological differences, they are not all that far apart. The common denominator of all of them is a disdain for the individual, and a tyrannical plan to build a better world through mass murder and leader worship.
It’s funny how bits of knowledge stick in your head. Literally a half century ago, while taking a history class at the University of Miami, a professor said, “Nothing happens in the world until someone sells something to someone else.”
The study of history can help one understand the present and frequently help predict the future. The world has experienced astonishing change in the last century thanks to trains, planes, automobiles, radio and television, and, of course, computers and the Internet.
It is natural for each new generation to accept such technological innovations as having always existed, but even automobiles are a relatively new mass produced invention. A hundred years ago in 1910, there were only 8,000 cars in the entire nation and only 144 miles of paved road.
Americans tend to think that we have always been the dominant economic power, but that did not begin to occur until after World War II destroyed much of Europe, Japan and other competitors. They have rebuilt and, along with the rise of China and India, they are major competitors.
As much and as freely as people can move around in our modern age, by the twelfth century Asia and the Near East was largely without borders for educated men. Caravan routes were well established. Trade in the centuries to follow was vigorous from Asia to the cities of Venice and Genoa, and then to the rest of Europe.
I cite this because free trade has become the dominant mantra of modern America, but Ian Fletcher, an economist with the U.S. Business & Industry Council, has written “Free Trade Doesn’t Work” and while books on economic theory tend to make my eyes glaze over, his is so filled with solid research and so lively that it provides a window to the present and future of America if its theme goes unheeded.
He argues forcefully for America to become a manufacturing nation again as it was throughout the last century. “A strong manufacturing sector is needed to support the labor market and the value of the dollar on which an import-dependent America now relies for its standard of living from garments to gasoline.”
There are many reasons why the Cap-and-Trade Act will harm the future of the nation, but among the worst is that it is entirely based on a lie. The very worst, however, is that it is a nation killer.
Cap-and-Trade is intended to set up a trade scheme in “carbon credits” that is estimated to be worth a trillion dollars if enacted. The rationale is the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2), to avoid global warming.
There is no global warming and no need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The vast bulk of CO2 is natural. The Earth produces 97% of the CO2 in the atmosphere. The atmosphere is essentially and overwhelmingly water vapor. CO2 plays no role in climate change.
Cap-and-Trade is a tax on energy use and Americans are constantly told that energy use in any form—-coal, oil, natural gas, or nuclear—-is bad. That’s not just a lie, it is insane.
Americans are told that “renewable” or “clean” energy can replace the energy generated by the use of coal, natural gas, and by nuclear plants. Solar and wind energy can never achieve this. They depend on totally unpredictable sources, the sun and wind. All such “green energy” must have existing plants as backup.
Green energy produces electricity. Oil is not used for this purpose, but one of the primary “reasons” offered for Cap-and-Trade is a reduction in the importation of oil. There is literally no connection between the two.
The only person who has been fired in the midst of the oil spill fiasco has been the former head of the Minerals Management Service of the Department of the Interior.
According to a June 17 editorial in The Wall Street Journal, it is now clear that both the Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, and the White House energy “czar”, Carol Browner, both lied to the nation regarding the recommendations by drilling experts, alleging that they had agreed to a moratorium on oil drilling in the Gulf.
Browner, citing the falsified recommendation to impose a moratorium, inserted after the memorandum had been received, said, “No one’s been deceived or misrepresented.” She lied.
From the beginning of the oil spill, the administration has failed to respond in a timely fashion.
In an article in Human Events the following lack of action by the administration was cited:
It failed to accept help offered by the Netherlands to help with skimming booms and plans to create barriers.
It failed to suspend the Jones Act in order to allow foreign vessels into American waters.
It failed to suspend the Davis-Bacon wage laws to allow rapid deployment of new workers to help the containment efforts.
It failed to suspend FEMA contracting and bidding rules.
It failed to allow coastal governors to immediately begin dredging to create barrier islands.
Failure on this scale requires that those involved should lose their jobs. We cannot “fire” the President, but his administration is shot through with people from the highest level to those below that exacerbated the Gulf oil spill.
The Secretary of Energy, Dr. Steven Chu, has barely been heard from. The Secretary of the Interior has been silenced since his comment that he would keep his “boot on the neck of BP.”
It took nearly two months before the President met with officials from BP.
On Thursday, the Senate will vote on S.J. Resolution 26. It is an effort to stop the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating “greenhouse gas emissions” without any legislative accountability. If the vote fails, the EPA will be free to continue its assault on the nation’s economy and every aspect of your personal life.
Here’s what my friend, Dr. Kenneth P. Green, a scholar with the American Enterprise Institute, had to say about the energy and environment “advisor” to President Barack Obama:
“Carol Browner’s selection as ‘energy coordinator’ (sometimes called energy czar) virtually guarantees that the Obama administration’s energy and environmental policies will be anything but moderate.”
“Her two terms as Environmental Protection Agency boss were marked by adversarialism, punitive enforcement actions, draconian tightening of environmental regulations and the message that business is destructive of the environment and dishonest about the cost of environmental regulations.”
And that was just the nice things he had to say about Browner. It is worth noting that Browner has been the lead spokesman about the BP oil spill for the Obama administration after it became obvious that Ken Salazar, the Secretary of the Interior, was generating negative public reaction to his ‘get tough’ approach and there have been few public statements issued by Dr. Steven Chu, the Secretary of Energy.
The current administrator of the EPA is Lisa Jackson who learned her trade working under Browner until she was picked to head the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. A Browner acolyte, Jackson has presided over an EPA run amuck.
Jackson will be remembered for leading the EPA fight to get carbon dioxide declared a “pollutant” that can then be regulated under the Clean Air Act. This is the same reasoning put forth by the constantly renamed Cap-and-Trade Act that is was a “climate” bill and has now become something else. It is based on the same totally bogus “science” that gave us “global warming” until Mother Nature decided that the Earth should begin to cool about a decade ago.
Obama has known from the very start that the ‘Man Made’ Global Warming is nothing more than a hoax. A way to separate man from money and liberty. A way to control. It was a beautiful scheme to get rich while also gaining control and power of the world. A lofty place on a global throne, something long sought after by the left. A One World Government or “The New World Order”. Essentially making the US Constitution meaningless. A casualty of false science and global collusion.
Sounds like a conspiracy theory doesn’t it? It may very well be the biggest scandal since Watergate broke during the Nixon years. The proof is all here. We just need someone in congress to grow a spine and go after these felons. This is about collusion for profit and power.
Collusion on a scale never before seen. Obama and Joel Rogers are long time network associates through the likes of Valerie Jarrett and Van Jones in particular. These networks of ultra progressives where devised by the none other than Joel Rogers and built by his ‘Lieutenants’ Van Jones and Majora Carter. They have been building these Green Groups for about 7 years and have now reached a critical mass. The collusion between them all is starting to show, it is getting out in the open because it is simply to big to keep a secret for much longer anyway. I am sure they expected it to be uncovered but I do not think it was intended to come out this soon. Not in there minds anyway.
This is about 2 min of compiled outtakes. It makes my point.
Well the mask they created is starting to come off and the whole thing will be exposed for what it is. Criminals, felons perpetrating fraud on a scale never before know by mankind. I have two items below about a fact. A fact that NO ONE can deny.
Joel Rogers knows and factually stated that no matter what we do we cannot reach the lofty goal of 80% by 2050. It is a FACT.
Van Jones has worked as a Lieutenant of Joel Rogers on the scams infrastructure for the last 7 years through the Emerald Cities Collaboration network.
Van Jones was heavily recruited by Valerie Jarrett for a position at the White House with Obama.
Valerie Jarret and Barack Obama both invested via the Joyce foundation into the formation of the CCX. The Money mechanism for Cap and Trade policy.
Ok that is the time line essentially and below are two items of public acknowledgement about and Man Man Global Warming.
Both authors know the truth but both authors push forward telling a LIE for a self profiting and power motive.
Below is an excerpt of a speech given by Joel Rogers at the Take Back America awards banquet in 2008.
“…I hope you all realize that you could eliminate every power plant in America today and you can stop every car in America today. Take out the entire power generation sector. Take out all of the transportation sector. And you still would not be anywhere near below 80% below 1990 levels. You would be closer to around 60% it would be around 68% percent and that is with bringing the economy to a complete halt. Basically.” ~ Joel Rogers of Apollo 2008 -Source
Next is the campaign pledges made by Obama and his administration both before and after taking control of the White House.
Obama Administration 2009
The Obama-Biden comprehensive New Energy for America plan will:
Help create five million new jobs by strategically investing $150 billion over the next ten years to catalyze private efforts to build a clean energy future.
Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East and Venezuela combined.
Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars — cars that can get up to 150 miles per gallon — on the road by 2015, cars that we will work to make sure are built here in America.
Ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025.
Implement an economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent by 2050. source : Change.gov
Well America what do we do now. We know its a lie. We know its criminal. We know who is involved. I wonder where Ms.NBC, CNN, CBS and ABC and oh.. NPR on this story? We have got to get off our asses and do something about this or Freedom and Liberty in America is over.
The FTC’s proposals are pretty dangerous for they will make the media more dependent on government and thus presumably less willing to criticize government. Taxing iPads will make alternative ways of doing things independently of the government.
The Federal Trade Commission says it wants to save journalism. I’m not sure who asked it to.
In a just-released “staff discussion draft” of “potential policy recommendations to support the reinvention of journalism,” the agency only circles its wagons around old newspapers and their fading business models.
If the FTC wants to reinvent journalism, perhaps it should align with news’ disruptors. But there’s none of that in this report. The word blog is used but once in 35 pages of text–and then only in a parenthetical mention of soccer blogs. Discussion of investing in technology comes on the last page in a suggestion about tools for “improved electronic note-taking.”
Instead, the FTC staff declares defeat in the search for business models so it may explore many government interventions, including:
* Expanding copyright law and restricting the doctrine of fair comment to benefit legacy publishers.
* Granting antitrust exemptions to allow publishers to collude on pricing to consumers and to business partners.
* Giving news organizations tax exemptions.
* Subsidizing news organizations by increasing government funding to public broadcasting; establishing an AmeriCorps to pay reporters; giving news companies tax credits for employing journalists; creating a national fund for local news, and giving the press an increased postal subsidy.
To its credit, the FTC does ask how to pay for all this. So the staffers speculated about what I’ll dub the iPad tax — a 5 percent surcharge on consumer electronics to raise $4 billion for news. They also consider a tax on broadcast spectrum and even on advertising. . . .
Democratic Senate candidate Andrew Romanoff, who is challenging incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet in Colorado, confirmed late Wednesday that deputy White House chief of staff Jim Messina said he could be given one of three high-ranking federal jobs if he gave up his candidacy.
Romanoff said he was told by Messina that two high-ranking positions at USAID and the director’s position at the U.S. Trade and Development Agency “might be available to me were I not pursuing the Senate race.”
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency director’s position would have been a post in charge of a $55 million budget and a staff of 78 people, which requires Senate confirmation.
It is now the second confirmed Senate race in which the Obama administration has tried to lure challengers to Democratic incumbents out of their races with offers or potential government jobs, flirting with ethical and possibly even legal violations that have besmirched a president who based much of his candidacy on changing the way Washington operates.
Romanoff’s bombshell comes days after White House counsel Bob Bauer confirmed last Friday that White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel went through former President Bill Clinton in an attempt to move Rep. Joe Sestak out of the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary.
Bauer and Sestak have said that the congressman was offered only a slot on a presidential advisory board, which would likely have not broken the law, but the official account has been plagued by questions and inconsistencies that have fueled suspicions that Sestak was offered a more weighty position such as Secretary of the Navy.
And in fact, the Romanoff revelation amplified questions about the credibility of the White House account of what they offered Sestak.
The nation is spellbound, as it watches the monumental struggle between puny mankind and elemental natural forces at 5,000 feet beneath the ocean. This is an environmental disaster of the first rank and no one will argue that, but while you, as concerned citizens, are focused on the Gulf coast, guess what your US Senate was doing?
They’re scheming to steal your liberties and give them to illegal aliens. Charles (Chuck) Schumer and Majority Leader Harry Reid on the Senate side and Luis Gutierrez, (D) Ill. and Solomon Ortiz, (D) Texas for the House side. The two proposed bills graphically illustrate just exactly what the leftists are really all about. For elected representatives to embrace and foster this decidedly self-serving and onerous legislation is, in my opinion, tantamount to a direct assault and contravention of our Constitution. These people should be investigated, as well as their ties to leftist illegal alien supporters and those who thrive from the illegal alien trade.
This legislation is rife with such cute alien incentives such as free automatic social security. Hey, gee whiz citizens, where’s our free anything? Silly me, it takes mucho dinero to keep those aliens here, in our schools, in our hospitals and last, but certainly not least, in our jails and prisons.
There’s an article I’d recommend you read on ‘Right Wing News’ entitled ‘22 Problems With The Senate’s Illegal Immigration Bill‘. This article, by John Hawkins, lays it out pretty well and makes me wonder why these perennial sellout politicians haven’t been called for treason against the country and the constitution.
If there are any Republicans that support this amnesty we must drive them from office. We can no longer afford ‘Republicans In Name Only’. Now, perhaps, we should add ‘CINO’ – Conservatives In Name Only, since conservatism seems to be the party banner.
It’s time to start lighting up the phone lines again, not that you’ve ever stopped, but we’ll have to really hammer them to get their attention. Don’t ever let them distract you from the goal of chasing these Marxists out of government and keeping it that way.
Last night, a community board in Manhattan approved a mosque/sharia-compliant “party space” at Ground Zero, two blocks from where the 9/11 hijackers mass-murdered thousands and brought down the World Trade Center.
After four hours of public debate, members of Community Board 1 finally voted 29-1 in support of the project. Nine members abstained, arguing that they wanted to table the issue and vote at a later date.
The board has no official say over whether the estimated $100 million mosque and community center gets built. But the panel’s support, or lack of it, is considered important in influencing public opinion.
Holding up photos of loved ones killed in the Twin Towers and carrying signs such as, “Honor 3,000, 9/11 — No mosque!” opponents of the proposed Cordoba House on Park Place called the plan an insult to the terror-attack victims.
“That is a burial ground,” said retired FDNY Deputy Chief Al Santora, referring to the fact that victims’ remains were scattered for blocks.
Santora’s 23-year-old son, Christopher, was the youngest firefighter to die that day.
“I do have a problem with having a mosque on top of the site where [terrorists] can gloat about what they did,” said Santora, with his wife, Maureen, by his side.
