Bill Maher doesn’t have a clue why conservatives are less likely to victims of mass public shootings than liberals

by John Lott on Monday, February 3rd, 2014

This is article 502 of 572 in the topic Gun Rights
Bill Maher has a joke that is not only disgusting, but also reveals that he doesn’t have a clue about what stops mass public shootings.  From Politico:

Taking a swipe at conservatives on gun control, liberal comic Bill Maher joked that a mass shooting should take place at the Country Music Awards.

“Now that liberals have forwarded their agenda by inserting a mass gay wedding into the Grammys, conservatives must match them tit-for-tat by having a mass shooting at the Country Music Awards,” Maher said Friday during his HBO program, “Real Time with Bill Maher.” . . .

Maher, a vocal proponent of gun control, has frequently lambasted conservatives and the Republican Party on the issue of firearms, having previously called them“gun nuts.” . . .

Yet, here is the problem in a way that Mr. Maher might understand.  Where does one think that the odds of a mass public shooting are higher?: a rally for Sarah Palin or Ted Cruz (or a meeting with the type of people who go to the Country Music Awards) or instead of rally of diehard Obama supporters who want to ban guns.  If you have a question, here is a discussion about a statement by the head of Interpol that might help explain things.  While we wouldn’t want an attack to occur in either place, the odds of a law-abiding citizen having a concealed handgun permit is much higher at the rally for Palin or Cruz, and the possibility that someone will be able to stop the attack is also much higher.  Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the group of liberals.

Oppose Obama…prepare to die!

by Sher Zieve on Saturday, February 9th, 2013

This is article 817 of 1007 in the topic Obama

By now, most of you are likely aware of the 16-page DOJ memo outlining Obama’s plan to kill US citizens at will…whenever and wherever he likes. The “rules of law’ the Obama syndicate members appear to be using are those laws consisting of Obama’s plans to bring them into existence via Executive Orders and existing law that he and his attorneys will deem – whether they are or not – supportive of their master’s “right” to kill anyone he says is a terrorist, a potential terrorist or someone he thinks might be a terrorist in the future. In other words, via Obama and New World Order ‘logic,’ Obama can kill anyone he deems dangerous…even ideologically to himself, personally. That of course, includes anyone and everyone who opposes him. Currently, the memo pertains to killing US citizens without charges or a trial or even legal assistance for the targeted citizen outside of the country. Under the US Constitution killing US citizens without due process of existing law is not allowed – whether in or out of the country. All it would take for Obama to decide to kill US citizens in their homes – those who “offend” him – would, apparently, be another swipe of his pen in the form of yet another illegal Executive Order; the same type of Executive Order that most members of Congress have, thus far, patently ignored.

Regarding the memo, Judge Andrew Napolitano stated: “It basically says that the president of the United States can authorize an ‘informed, high-level official of the U.S. government’ to strip the constitutional protections of an American in a foreign country if the informed official is satisfied that the American is an imminent danger to American national security and his capture or arrest would be impractical, That is basically the power claimed by kings and tyrants. ‘I can suspend the law to get you if you are a danger.'”

Note: Please remember that in the 1970s ObamaFriend and real terrorist Bill Ayers (via FBI informant Larry Grathwohl) said that over 25,000,000 (that’s 25 millions, folks) Americans would likely have to be exterminated because they would be too loyal to the US Constitution, too capitalistic and would not be able to be “reeducated” Soviet style. It would seem that, in true Obama fashion for his friends, one of Bill Ayers’ fondest wishes is about to be realized. By the way, in that same video (see source material below) the references to giving China and Russia US land on US homeland soil was and still is one of Ayers’ desires. Via Obama dictate – and a willing and/or cowed Congress – China is already setting up camp in various portions of the USSA and is planning to set up more of them. Colleague Eric Rush offers excellent insight into portions of this and Obama’s determination to disarm the American public in his recent column “The Darkest Design of Barack Obama.”

Every day now, Barack Obama is doing more to destroy our country and us. Each day, said destruction becomes bolder and bolder. If bullies and tyrants aren’t stopped this is what, inevitably, happens and lives are summarily destroyed or ended. Alexander (the Great) did it. Hitler did it. Stalin did it. Mao did it. Pol Pot did it, amongst countless others.

Doh! Svidaniya: DNC apologizes for using photo of Russian ships during convention tribute to US military

by Doug Powers on Thursday, September 13th, 2012

This is article 118 of 143 in the topic Democratic Party

Oops. At their convention, the DNC put a US Navy retired admiral on stage, and at one point behind him during a military tribute there appeared an enormous backdrop of Soviet-era ships — presumably the same fleet assigned to transmit information to Vladimir.

From the Navy Times:

Democratic officials apologized Wednesday for mistakenly displaying an image of the Russian Navy during a tribute to America’s veterans at last week’s Democratic National Convention. But they also used their response to take a swipe at Republican rival Mitt Romney.

The Russian warships, many of Soviet-era origin, were shown on a giant screen Sept. 6 above 50 veterans while retired Adm. John Nathman honored veterans’ contributions to America. The former sailor who spotted the error and notified Navy Times had asked for an apology.

The Democratic National Convention Committee did just that in a statement Wednesday, but also criticized Romney for failing to mention service members during his convention speech in Tampa, Fla.

The DNC blamed it on a “vendor” error. Is that what they’re calling Bush these days? Don’t worry though — I’m sure they’ll be more attentive and thorough when it comes to your health care. If not, just inform your doctor in Siberia.

Obama’s Twisted View of Fiscal Morality

by Doug Powers on Saturday, September 8th, 2012

This is article 134 of 258 in the topic Education

In his convention speech, President Obama mocked Mitt Romney for suggesting that kids look at alternate sources from which to borrow money for school, including their parents:

Obama also made sure to take a swipe at Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and his advice on affording higher education.

“If you can’t afford to start a business or go to college, take my opponent’s advice and ‘borrow money from your parents,’” Obama said. “You know what? That’s not who we are. That’s not what this country’s about.”

Think about Obama’s view for a minute: it’s ridiculously gross violation of fiscal morality to suggest a kid ask his or her parents for some money for college, but it’s just fine to encourage that same kid to put his or her entire education on the charge card of future generations so people who aren’t even born yet will have to pay for it.

And the president who thinks it’s ridiculous for Romney to be advising 18 year old kids to ask their parents for money for college is the same guy who passed a law forcing kids to stay on their parents health plan until they’re 26 friggin’ years old?

Thanks to the Obama economy, yes, Romney’s suggestion might be a little silly. Many kids asking their parents for college money might only discover that their folks have already been bled dry by the likes of catastrophic progressive social experiments that have left the current generation financially crippled and future generations with one hell of a mess to clean up — not to mention pay for.

RNC recap in living color: The speeches and stories Obama wants to whitewash

by Michelle Malkin on Monday, September 3rd, 2012

This is article 926 of 1300 in the topic 2012 Elections

How dare him. The bitter failure-in-chief campaigned in Iowa yesterday by trashing the Republican National Convention as “last century” and like watching “black-and-white TV.” He whined that the Republicans offered nothing “new.” This from the warmed-over, Keynesian retread with Beltway barnacle Joe Biden as his running mate.

But Obama’s latest swipe is not just a desperate attack on GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s agenda for restoring America’s excellence and prosperity. It’s an obvious attempt to bury the fresh, vivid, conservative speakers whose voices soared. Just like his whitewashing media lapdoggies did. In my convention wrap-up, I wrote: “The stars of the convention were Mia Love, Marco Rubio, and the small and large business people who shared their passion, their life stories, their hardships and their failures, and their common gratitude for the blessings of liberty. The stories told by entrepreneurs who testified about the benefits of Bain Capital under Romney’s leadership were also powerful and moving. The corollary narrative of 1st and 2nd generation Americans pursuing the American Dream also soared. Yes, the media lapdoggies ignored these speeches. But the information blockade can, will, and must be breached this election. It is up to grass-roots conservatives inspired by those stories to amplify them, re-tell them, and add their own.”

Reader Lynn Hubert e-mailed: “I just came across your post about Marco Rubio and his speech and how it was also your story. That gave me an idea. Since so many people didn’t see the really cool stories you talked about in another post, could you gather all of them together in one place…You are right. We need to hear and share those stories, but it’s not going to be easy to find them all.”

For your convenience, here are videos of the speeches and stories that Obama doesn’t want American to hear. Watch, re-watch, share with your friends, family, and co-workers.

Another “novelty” swipe at a conservative Tea Party woman

by Michelle Malkin on Monday, April 23rd, 2012

This is article 644 of 1300 in the topic 2012 Elections

Establishment Republicans are really getting unhinged by fresh, conservative voices — especially female and minority ones — who are on the rise.

You’ll recall that earlier this month, Romney supporter Ann Coulter took to ABC News to put down Sarah Palin and Marco Rubio as “novelty” candidates.

Yesterday at the Utah Republican convention, where crusty incumbent Sen. Orrin Hatch failed in his $6 million bid to avoid a primary fight for the nomination, the state’s attorney general attacked 4th CD candidate and Tea Party favorite Mia Love as a…”novelty.”

Many Republicans were shocked Saturday when Attorney General Mark Shurtleff seemingly dismissed Mia Love — the first black woman nominated for Congress in Utah — as a “novelty.”

“You have to please pick a person with a proven record who can beat Jim Matheson this fall. Not a novelty,” Shurtleff said.

The reference drew boos from many in the audience and outrage from many Republicans.

Republican National Committeewoman Enid Mickelsen said she had an angry confrontation with Shurtleff over the comment.

“At first I didn’t believe it,” Mickelsen said. But Shurtleff, she said, didn’t back away from the comment.

“He said, ‘Enid, what else is her appeal?’ And I lost it,” Mickelsen said.

Shurtleff’s “apology” is as phony as any non-apology apology I’ve heard from Beltway crapweasels.

Read all about it here.

He argues that she doesn’t have enough experience over his chosen candidate (the defeated state legislator Carl Wimmer) — even though Wimmer has served less time in public office than Love (a former city council member and current mayor of Saratoga Springs).

The gracious Love accepted Shurtleff’s lame apology. But it leaves the same bitter taste that Coulter’s swipe at Palin and Rubio did. What the hell are they thinking?

The Left does enough to marginalize Tea Party candidates and minority conservatives without extra piling on by thoughtless establishment Republicans threatened by new competition.

As with so many ad hominem attacks, the most effective way to fight back is to hijack their language. They see “novelty” as a pejorative. But the opposite of novelty is staleness, sameness, and idleness. The voters yesterday endorsed “novelty” over entrenched incumbency.

Election 2012: Out with the same old, same old. In with the fresh, new, and novel.

Love faces Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson in the general. Support her campaign here.

Ann Coulter’s “novelty candidate” swipe at Sarah Palin

by Michelle Malkin on Monday, April 2nd, 2012

This is article 614 of 1300 in the topic 2012 Elections

Mitt Romney supporter Ann Coulter appeared on the ABC News Sunday show, “This Week,” hosted by former Clintonite George Stephanopoulos. Asked about Romney’s potential vice presidential picks, she said this (while seated at a table with former green jobs czar Van Jones, who served under the Biggest Novelty Candidate of Them All, Barack Obama):

Ann Coulter:

You can’t have a novelty candidate, I think. That would ring too much like Sarah Palin. I agree with George Will that it be good to have little tea party excitement, and the odds-on favorite, I mean, certainly the betting is on Marco Rubio, I think that would be a mistake.” But Coulter, who is a firm Mitt Romney supporter, said the GOP frontrunner needs a running mate who is tried and tested, she suggested Romney pick someone like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie or Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz.”He’s been tested, he’s steady, he’s not frightening. He could certainly step into the job” Coulter said of Kyl.

Unbelievably, Coulter is under the continued delusion that Sarah Palin was the problem with the 2008 ticket and not McCain. Later in the show, when Van Jones floated former Bush Secretary of State Condoleezza Rices name for VP, Coulter snorted again: “Too much like Palin.”

Say what?

Like her love object Chris Christie, Coulter has been taking many open shots at Palin lately. Florida’s great Shark Tank blog and the Daily Caller noted a few weeks ago that Coulter took nasty swipes at Palin at a Lincoln Day Dinner event:

Coulter, who was asked about the prospects of a brokered Republican convention, hinted — as she has done in the past – that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is promoting the idea because she would like to be considered for the GOP nomination should a brokered convention occur. Coulter warned that selecting a candidate that way would void the vetting process that has weeded out inferior candidates.

“One of the ones promoting that [a brokered convention] is Sarah Palin, who has suggested herself as the choice,” Coulter said. “I think as long as it’s between us girls — I’ve been observing something about her. I don’t think it’s likely to happen. I don’t know what these people are cheering for. As I wrote in a column a few weeks back, who is this dream candidate we’re hoping to get from the convention, because Rick Perry used to be the dream candidate. Can we see them in a debate first?”

…Coulter said that might be a weakness in the Republican Party as a whole — that certain individuals become celebrities and are allowed to profit off that status and yet still interfere in GOP politics, which Democrats have been able to avoid.

“And just a more corporate problem is I think our party and particularly our movement, the conservative movement, does have more of a problem with con men and charlatans than the Democratic Party,” she said. “I mean, the incentives seem to be set up to allow people — as long as you have a band of a few million fanatical followers, you can make money.

Chimichanga is the new macaca

by Michelle Malkin on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

File under “What if a top-ranking GOP official had said this?”

Chimichanga would be the new macaca.

Lefty WaPo columnist Dana Milbank mocked Republicans for not doing enough to grovel to Latino voters. He snarked: “The chimichanga? It may be the only thing Republicans have left to offer Latinos.” (Full context of the entire Chimichanga Kerfuffle here.)

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina tweeted his approval of Milbank’s Hispanic food swipe, calling it the “line of the day.” Conservative blogger Sooper Mexican lays the double-standard smack down:

What incredible arrogance would cause these idiots to disdain Latinos? It’s the same grown out of the knowledge that no matter how much Democrats promise Latinos, and how little they deliver, they will count on their vote, as if we’re beaten dogs returning to their master.

Let them know you don’t appreciate this insult to Latinos, whatever race you are…

As I’ve pointed out many times over the years:

The P.C. police, as always, are P.C. only when it’s P.E. — politically expedient.

Nancy Pelosi’s Culture of Corruption

by Donald Douglas on Sunday, November 20th, 2011

This is article 143 of 461 in the topic Government Corruption

At IBD, “Pelosi Leads List Of Conflict Of Interest Dems“:

Ethics: As Democrats demonize Wall Street CEOs as the “greedy” fiends of the financial crisis, they’ve lined their own pockets — both before and after the crisis. Nancy Pelosi’s just the latest example.

The former House speaker allegedly gamed financial reforms to boost her personal stock portfolio. The brewing scandal is complicated, but here’s the Reader’s Digest version:

After a Pelosi staffer left to lobby on behalf of credit-card giant Visa, Pelosi delayed bringing to the House floor a bill to end lucrative “swipe fees” for Visa and other credit providers.

The bill couldn’t have come at a worse time for Visa. It planned to launch an $18 billion public stock offering, so stalling Hill action became a priority. The San Francisco-based company curried favor with Pelosi by pumping cash into her re-election efforts, earning its CEO a rare one-on-one meeting with the speaker.

At the same time, Visa offered her husband a VIP cut of the IPO. Paul Pelosi jumped at the offer, buying 5,000 shares at the $44 initial price. In a couple of days, the shares soared to $64. Pelosi later bought 15,000 more, raising the total value of his investment to about $5 million. In the end, the legislation Visa fought starting in 2007 was forestalled two full years.

More at the link.

And recall Sarah Palin hammered the epic trail of Democrat Party corruption: “Sarah Palin Slams Occupy Wall Street (and Obama’s Culture of Corruption).”
