Internet Censorship By Fiat

Internet Censorship By Fiat

The free exchange of information on the Internet has eliminated Big Brother’s ability to control the message. This makes elites walking the halls of power uneasy. That’s why efforts by government to regulate and censor the Internet won’t die, no matter how many times the public thinks it’s killed them.

Since Congress has twice been beaten down on the issue thanks to uprisings by the unwashed masses, the illegal White House usurper has decided to once again do an end run around Congress and legislate by fiat with a new executive order. As usual, the new regulation is designed “to make us safe.”

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano — a recent purchaser of 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition (to make us safe, I’m certain) — said Wednesday the cybersecurity executive order that the White House is drafting is close to completion.

The draft order is said to be based on a measure in Senator Internet Kill Switch Joe Lieberman’s bill that died earlier this year. That measure, critics charged, would serve as a back door for regulatory agencies to force companies to meet new security standards. It would make it easier to regulate and surveil Internet communications.

The American defense and intelligence networks are primary exporters of cyberwarfare, so another executive order is not going to “make us safe” from cyberattack.

What would really make us safe would be having Presidents who didn’t routinely violate Article I, Section 1 of the Constitution. But, of course, we can’t expect a Congress that routinely approves anti-liberty measures like the USA Patriot Act or the National Defense Authorization Act (which calls for the secret indefinite detention of Americans) and allows Presidents to assassinate American citizens on a whim or make war without a formal declaration of war on countries that have not attacked us to have any concerns about whether the President is shredding the Constitution.

House to examine proposal for United Nations regulation of the Internet

by Doug Powers on Sunday, May 27th, 2012

This is article 26 of 45 in the topic Cyber space

The United Nations has a simple business plan when it comes to wresting control of as much of the world as possible: Pronounce yourself the global arbiter of human rights, then declare everything a human right.

The UN has already said Internet access is a human right, so naturally the best way to police that human right is to put the UN in charge of the Internet.

A House subcommittee will soon consider this possibility:

The proposal is backed by China, Russia, Brazil, India and other UN members, and would give the UN’s International Telecommunication Union (ITU) more control over the governance of the Internet.

It’s an unpopular idea with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in Congress, and officials with the Obama administration have also criticized it.

“We’re quite concerned,” Larry Strickling, the head of the Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration, said in an interview with The Hill earlier this year.

He said the measure would expose the Internet to “top-down regulation where’s it’s really the governments that are at the table but the rest of the stakeholders aren’t.”
The House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold the hearing and hear testimony from Robert McDowell, a Republican commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC); David Gross, a former State Department official; and Sally Shipman Wentworth, the senior manager of public policy for the nonprofit Internet Society.

Because when you think “Internet freedom” you think China and Russia. Don’t worry though, the UN wouldn’t have a Internet “kill switch” (they call theirs an “enemies of human rights emergency denial-of-service button” — definitely not the same thing).

What’s to consider? Nancy Reagan’s “just say ‘no’” rule applies to anything that would grant the United Nations more authority over anything.

A pair of Congressmen have already introduced legislation opposing any resolution allowing UN control of the Internet, but the above story is something to keep an eye on — as is this.

Congress Still Trying To Kill The Internet

by Bob Livingston on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

Congress Still Trying To Kill The Internet

PHOTOS.COM Two bills in Congress aim to give the government power to shut down websites: the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) in the House and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate.

The fascists in both political parties have lost control of their messaging. The wealth of freely exchanged information on the Internet has divested them of their primary means of propaganda: the corporate media. They are working very hard to regain control.

That’s what’s behind two bills in Congress: the Stop Online Privacy Act (SOPA) in the House and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate. Congress, of course, couches the bills as efforts to stop online piracy or to protect consumers from so-called rogue foreign pharmacies. It’s also what was behind last year’s failed efforts to pass an Internet kill switch bill.

According to an article in The Hill: “The bill would empower the Justice Department and copyright holders to demand that search engines, Internet providers and payment processors cut ties with websites ‘dedicated’ to copyright infringement.”

Laurence Tribe, a Constitutional law expert at Harvard Law School, sent a memo to Congress last week describing how the SOPA violates the 1st Amendment because it suppresses speech without a judicial hearing and the bill’s definition of a rogue website is unConstitutionally vague. He says that an entire website containing tens of thousands of pages could be targeted if only a single page were accused of infringement.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt said the bill would break the Internet.

“By criminalizing links, what these bills do is they force you to take content off the Internet,” Schmidt told The Hill, calling it a form of censorship. He compared the proposal to the Web censorship practiced by repressive foreign governments like China and doubled down on that comparison when speaking with reporters after his remarks at the Economic Club of Washington.

The bill would create problems for sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube that allow user-generated content by being repositories for videos, photos and other materials. It would also lead to the potential to shut down sites like Personal Liberty Digest, which allows the posting of links to other sites.

It’s no coincidence that this bill could target social media and information-sharing sites. It was social media, after all, that was used to encourage and organize the protests in the Mideast that became known as Arab Spring. China is notorious for shutting down the Internet in certain areas when protests begin. U.S. lawmakers have made it clear they see China as their model. And information-sharing sites like YouTube and Personal Liberty are the means used by many people to educate the masses on the growing tyranny in America and around the globe.

Last year, Senator Joe Lieberman told CNN’s Candy Crowley, “Right now China — the government — can disconnect parts of its Internet in a case of war. We need to have the ability to do that, too.” And Senator Jay Rockefeller is on a YouTube video saying he wished the Internet had never been invented and people still communicated with paper and pencil.

Russia Wants That ‘Re-Set’ Button Connected to More Than Just the Relationship

by Doug Powers on Sunday, April 10th, 2011

Kill switch?

Early in Obama’s presidency, when Hillary Clinton was on her “Apologizing for Anything Bush and America Might Have Done to Offend You ’09″ tour, the Secretary of State gave Russia a “re-set” button. This was in the hope that the secret to achieving world peace and nuclear non-proliferation could be found in the exchange of cheap plastic novelty gifts.

Now it sounds as if Russia wants that red button to do a little more than just re-set the relationship:

A top Kremlin official has told the United States Russia wants “red button” rights to a new US-backed missile defence system for Europe, a move that would allow it to influence the shield’s day-to-day operational use.

Sergey Ivanov, Russia’s deputy prime minister, made the controversial demand during a visit to the United States where he met with top officials including Hillary Clinton, the US Secretary of State.

“We insist on only one thing,” he said of the nascent US-backed missile defence shield. “That we are an equal part of it.”

“In practical terms, that means that our office will sit for example in Brussels and agree on a red-button push to launch an interceptor missile, regardless of whether the missile is launched from Poland, Russia or the UK.”
Robert Gates, the US defence secretary, tried to pacify the Kremlin last month by offering to share information about the new system and by offering to build a joint data centre.

But Russian government officials have since made it clear that such a compromise does not go far enough.

Revealing the size of America’s nuclear arsenal wasn’t enough, so now they want right of first refusal on Europe’s defense shield? Under normal circumstances I’d expect Washington to laugh off such a request, but these days, not so much.

What If I Can’t Look Up Egypt on Wikipedia?

by US Weapon on Thursday, February 10th, 2011

This is article 13 of 45 in the topic Cyber space

We have all been following the revolution unfolding in Egypt over the last week and a half. I have to say that it is interesting TV. Further, I find it to be an interesting study in what a group of citizens can do when they band together, take a stand, and demand better than what they have. Now I don’t live under the illusion that such a revolution could occur here in the United States. Mubarek didn’t have the military under enough control to use them to put down the revolt. But here in the good ole USA, there are plenty enough men with guns to make taking a stand against your government a risky proposition. But that is a discussion for another day. Instead, I want to talk about what happened in Egypt once the revolution started and how it is a relevant warning for those of us here in America. The Egyptian people found that when the government has the ability to control the ISP’s, they have the ability to control the ability to communicate. And under the shadow of this glaring example, we have the dolts in DC making sorry arguments to gain a similar level of control over ISP’s.

At around 10:30 GMT on January 28th, organizations that monitor internet traffic saw a sharp decline in internet traffic into and out of Egypt. For all intensive purposes, the internet was dead. This was not a mistake, as we now know. Tension had been rising for a few days as citizens fed up with government mistreatment and a sharp increase in food prices began to organize and take to the streets to demand that Egyptian President Hasni Mubarek step down immediately. In an effort to stop the coming revolution in its tracks, Mubarek knew the first thing he needed to do was disrupt the disgruntled people’s ability to communicate and organize. So he utilized the government’s “kill switch” on internet communication. Basically all internet communications were severed with the exception of critical stock market and banking lines.

How was this done? Believe me I wasn’t able to answer that on my own, dear readers. Remember that this is the author that asks for help understanding the concept of server hosting! I got the following explanation from a UK Telegraph article which I will post a link to at the end of the article. Essentially, at the command of the government, more than 3,500 Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routes were withdrawn by Internet Service Providers in Egypt. BGP routes are apparently one of the most essential parts of the internet, allowing the networks to exchange information which is how the internet works (the exchange of information via data packets). According to that Telegraph article, the tracking firms noted that 88% of Egyptian internet access was immediately severed. The citizens were no longer able to email or access the internet. Coupled with a shutdown of mobile communications, the government had effectively severed the protester’s abilities to easily communicate and organize.

Stuxnet: False Flag for Net Neutrality? Don’t worry, the FCC will regulate

by Greg Hedgepath on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

This is article 10 of 45 in the topic Cyber space

In the featured video, former national security director Richard Clarke talks about Stuxnet virus and the problems the Iranian’s had with it.  This virus is being used as an excuse to give Obama the internet kill switch.  What is not being stated here is that Stuxnet is not an internet born virus.  It had to be introduced manually to the Iranian computer systems.

Iranian Defense Minister Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Vahidi said the Stuxnet worm is “internet terrorism,” Iranian news service ISNA reported Wednesday. source : Jeruselam Post

Then he goes on to discuss a power plant that the government experimented on and he contends almost blew up a power generator in the power plant before the “Experimentation” was halted. (The generator did infact blow up.)   Experimentation with what, a False Flag Trial Run?  Why would the US government target an operating LIVE REAL WORLD facility to conduct test like this? The US has the resources to run these test on a facility that could have been 100% controlled event.  Perhaps we should ask a Guatemalan with Syphilis.  Perhaps we can phone them from a vessel in the Gulf of Tonkin.  That is as soon as we have finished tripping on LSD.

Questions are being raised about the involvement of U.S. government researchers in the creation of a digital weapon that experts believe may have sabotaged centrifuges at a uranium-enrichment plant in Iran. Source : Wired Magazine

Behind Dimona’s barbed wire, the experts say, Israel has spun nuclear centrifuges virtually identical to Iran’s at Natanz, where Iranian scientists are struggling to enrich uranium. They say Dimona tested the effectiveness of the Stuxnet computer worm, a destructive program that appears to have wiped out roughly a fifth of Iran’s nuclear centrifuges and helped delay, though not destroy, Tehran’s ability to make its first nuclear arms. The New York Times.

In the wake of the Stuxnet worm, lawmakers are considering whether the Department of Homeland Security should have increased authority to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure and whether private sector organizations should be required to report attacks. Source : SC Magazine

The Times also spelled out other clues it said “suggest[ed] that the virus was designed as an American-Israeli project to sabotage the Iranian programme.” Source : Tech World

DHS also teamed up with private industry to conduct investigations on the mysterious Stuxnet worm, which targeted Iran’s critical infrastructure this summer, according to a report on.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates yesterday released a new memorandum of agreement on cybersecurity, which was created to coordinate and improve efforts to secure the nation’s critical digital infrastructure. Source : Information Week.

And if you have any questions about the US and Gates possibly knowing what may be going on in Dimona nuclear reactor facility prior to Stuxnet being unveiled. Here is what was reported on May 5th 2010 after the Obama administration made its public statement about Israel and US relations, again this is prior to Stuxnets’ release in Iran’s nuke facility.

There is no reason to fear any change in US policy regarding the Dimona nuclear reactor, Defense Minister Ehud Barak reiterated Tuesday, echoing comments made the previous day on the issue. Source : The Jerusalem Post

Senator pushing move towards Chinese-style censored web with presidential kill switch pressured Amazon to axe Wikileaks

by Greg Hedgepath on Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

This is article 9 of 31 in the topic Wikileaks

Senator Joe Lieberman, the man behind legislation to give President Obama a kill switch for the Internet in the move towards a Chinese-style government controlled world wide web, now has the power to shut down websites with a mere phone call, as was underscored yesterday when Amazon axed Wikileaks from its servers after being pressured to do so by Lieberman’s Senate Homeland Security Committee.

The revelation that Amazon had killed Wikileaks after the controversial whistle blower organization moved over its servers to Amazon’s cloud network came directly from Lieberman himself, stating that the, “Decision to cut off Wikileaks now is the right decision and should set the standard for other companies Wikileaks is using to distribute its illegally seized material.”

The decision was made after Lieberman’s staffers called Amazon to pressure the company to axe Wikileaks. “Committee staff had seen news reports yesterday that Wikileaks was being hosted on Amazon’s servers,” reports TPM. “Staffers then, according to the spokeswoman, Leslie Phillips, called Amazon to ask about it, and left questions with a press secretary including, “Are there plans to take the site down?”

Amazon later called back Lieberman’s office to tell them that they had taken down the website. Amazon claimed the take down was because Wikileaks had violated its terms of service, but as TPM’s Rachel Slajda points out, this was a somewhat nebulous reason.

“(Amazon’s) terms of acceptable use include a ban on illegal activities (it’s not yet clear whether Wikileaks has broken any laws) and content “that may be harmful to our users, operations, or reputation.” It also prohibits using Amazon’s servers “to violate the security or integrity of any network, computer or communications system,” although Wikileaks obviously obtained the cables long before hopping on Amazon’s servers.”

“Funny how Amazon spent days loudly refusing to delete a pedophile guidebook on free speech grounds, but this happened behind the scenes and the company is refusing to comment,”writes Rob Beschizza.

Wikileaks also responded to the shut down by slamming Amazon for its apparent disdain for free speech, tweeting, “If Amazon are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books.”

The London Guardian notes that the website was pulled after “US political pressure”.

Obama & co speeding its implementation of collapsing America

by Sher Zieve on Thursday, September 16th, 2010

This is article 27 of 471 in the topic Government Corruption

Maintaining his corrupt policy of “say one thing to the American people and then do the opposite,” Dictator-in-Chief Obama remains true to his primary mission — collapse and destroy the USA and her people. Applying the directives of Saul Alinsky, the Cloward-Piven Strategy and — of course — Karl Marx, Obama and his merry band of demolishers are working feverishly to destroy the USA before a potentially new and more conservative-run House of Representatives takes the majority.

As a review of the anti-American people programs The Obama has already implemented, we have:

1. ObamaCare that collapses the US healthcare system. Despite the majority of the American people’s protests against it, Obama smiled and said he and his Marxist Dems don’t care what We-the-People think — as we are no longer important or necessary to their arrogant and increasingly demonic purpose. While laughing at us, Obama signed his suppressive anti-human bill. Note: After well over a year of lying about its reducing healthcare costs, ObamaCare is already forcing them to go up. And they will go up exponentially, as Obama & Co implements its plan for government to completely take over from private insurers; effectively forcing them out of the marketplace — entirely.

2. Knowing that his planned-to-collapse-energy-in-the-USA via Cap & Trade (aka Cap & Tax or “The American Clean Energy and Security Act” or “the pollution reduction bill”) is extremely unpopular with the American people, the tyrant Obama has already hedged his bets by giving power to his EPA to control companies carbon emissions. Note: One way or another, Obama plans to win his war against We-the-People of the United States of America.

3. Although not yet an absolute reality, the Obama’s plan to collapse the US Constitution’s First Amendment is well on its way to being approved by the currently almost completely corrupt US Congress. The “Internet kill switch” bill is designed to provide Dictator-in-Chief Obama with total control of the USA’s Internet and will allow him total censorship of opposition viewpoints.

4. On his way to completely collapsing the now wide-open-to-anyone Southern border, Obama’s now wholly-controlled ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) announced that it will no longer prosecute or deport illegals. Note: This, of course, will give The Obama and the Democrats a huge new voting bloc of illegals. He has effectively provided Amnesty without having to go through a pesky Congress and has, again, smilingly thwarted We-the-People.

5. Collapsing the economy, the US free market system and the US middle class by destroying its jobs (which Alinsky said would have to be done in this way) is actually the Crown Jewel of the Obama regime’s accomplishments, thus far. And The Obama, his masters and minions are justifiably proud of themselves! In less than two years in office, Obama has almost destroyed our entire country. Note: In several of my columns before The Obama “won” the leadership position of the USA, I warned it wouldn’t take him long.

Internet Kill Switch Bill On Senate Short List

by Bob Livingston on Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Internet Kill Switch Bill On Senate Short List

The Internet Kill Switch Bill I’ve told you about before (here, here, here and here) continues to evolve and is creeping closer to reality.

According to, two separate bills — one pushed by Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Thomas Carper (D-Del.) and another backed by Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) — have been combined and are now on the Senate’s short list for passage.

The new bill would give the power to shut down the Internet in case of national emergency to the Department of Homeland Security. Under the bill the Internet could be closed down for four months before Congress could review it. The bill would also require cybersecurity professionals be certified.

The elected elites couch the bill as necessary for national security, but Lieberman let slip the real reason when he told CNN’s Candy Crowley, “Right now China — the government — can disconnect parts of its Internet in a case of war. We need to have the ability to do that, too.”

Of course, China disconnects portions of the Internet whenever there’s civil strife, as do other totalitarian regimes. It’s done to suppress the flow of information. Elites hate the free flow of information.

Rockefeller has gone so far to say he wishes the Internet had never been invented and we still communicated with paper and pencil.

Senate aides told the bill faces a number of hurdles but the goal is to get the bill passed and on President Barack Obama’s desk by the end of the year. The bill could come up in the next four weeks, or it could be much later, aides said.

This bill is about one thing: The totalitarian suppression of free speech. The elites and corporate press know they have lost control of the message. This has resulted in the rise of the Tea Party and general discontent over the direction of the American political system. That frightens the fascists on both sides of the aisle.

The Internet Kill Switch Bill is their effort to regain control.

Sneaky Senate Trying To Slip Internet Kill Switch Past Us

by Bob Livingston on Monday, August 30th, 2010

Sneaky Senate Trying To Slip Internet Kill Switch Past Us

Sensing Senators don’t have the stomach to try and pass a stand-alone bill in broad daylight that would give the President the power to shut down the Internet in a national emergency, the Senate is considering attaching the Internet Kill Switch bill as a rider to other legislation that would have bi-partisan support.

“It’s hard to get a measure like cybersecurity legislation passed on its own,” Senator Thomas Carper (D-Del.) told Carper is chairman of the Senate subcommittee with cybersecurity oversight.

Under instructions from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Senators Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) are working to combine their separate bills into one that can be attached to another piece of legislation, such as the Defense Authorization Act.

While proponents say an Internet Kill Switch is needed to protect the nation’s power, water and banking grids, what it really is is a way to control the flow of information. Experts have said that the nation’s power and water grids are not connected directly to the Internet.

Lieberman let slip his real thoughts on the Internet Kill Switch in an interview with CNN’s Candy Crowley when he said, “Right now China — the government — can disconnect parts of its Internet in a case of war. We need to have the ability to do that, too.”

For more on Lieberman’s interview, go here.

And the idiot Rockefeller is no friend of the Internet either. He has said he wished the Internet had never been invented and we were back to communicating with pencil and paper.

China and other totalitarian regimes readily use their power over the Internet to deny their citizens the free flow of information. And that’s what in store for the United States if this bill comes to fruition.

The President — Democrat or Republican — can now use almost any excuse to declare a state of emergency and that would give him the excuse to shut down any and all parts of the Internet. The target of the shutdown could be sites that express dissenting views or entire sections of the country the President — or his puppet master — is displeased with.

The Senate will soon be back in Washington, D.C., for a four-week session before adjourning until the November elections. This is the window that provides the most danger to our freedom.
