Interpol: Benghazi prison riot and mass inmate escape linked to al-Qaeda

Interpol issued a global security alert on Saturday as a result of Middle-Eastern police officials being suspicious of al-Qaeda involvement in recent prison breakouts.

Interpol’s alert mentioned prison escapes in Libya and Pakistan, and asked its members to examine if both breakouts were connected and masterminded by al-Qaeda of its affiliates, as reported by the Examiner.

The international police organization also requested police agencies in member nations to provide any information available on the prisoners that escaped.

In a recent escape in Pakistan, close to 250 prisoners broke out from a northwest detention facility, according to Israeli security specialist Moshe Medallis.

The largest prison break occurred on one week ago, when more than 1,200 convicted Libyans, some of whom are radical Muslims, mounted a large-scale prison riot in Libya‘s troubled city of Benghazi, former police detective and terrorism expert, Carl Nelbert, told Examiner.

A riot inside Al-Kuifiya prison erupted when a number of masked gunmen launched an attack from outside the prison facility. As a result, more than 1,000 prisoners escaped, according to Nelbert.

When the prison guards were unable to control the violence, Libyan security forces were quickly deployed as reinforcements for the prison officers but they were mysteriously ordered not to fire at the escaping prisoners, he told Law Enforcement Examiner.

The official government report claims that most of the rioters and escaped convicts were common criminal detainees, including nationals from other African states, but some of them were detainees linked to Islamist terror groups.

Benghazi prison riot turns into ‘Great Escape’ for 1,000 inmates

by Jim Kouri on Monday, July 29th, 2013

Upwards of 1,000 convicted Libyans, some of whom are radical Muslims, mounted a large-scale prison riot on Saturday in Libya‘s troubled city of Benghazi, according to a former police detective and terrorism expert, Carl Nelbert.

A riot inside Al-Kuifiya prison erupted when a band of gunmen launched an attack from outside the prison facility.

Several of the prisoners were quickly hunted down by the military and police and recaptured shortly after their escape.

Also on Saturday, hundreds of protesters attacked the headquarters of Libya’s chapter of the radical Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood.

The demonstrations in the city of Benghazi turned violent as youths forced their way into — and ransacked — the Brotherhood’s offices while protesting the assassination of Abdessalem al-Mesmari, an anti-Islamist lawyer who campaigned for a secular government, according to the local news media.

Last month, Libya’s Gen. Youssef al-Mangoush, the army’s chief of staff, was forced to resign following a battle between militia members and protesters that left more than 25 civilians dead and another 90 wounded in the streets of Benghazi, according to a counterterrorism source in Israel who monitors Islamist groups in North African nations.

Gen. al-Mangoush turned over his letter of resignation to members of Libya’s congress, according to Mordecai Asher, a former police intelligence analyst.

The deadly violence began when Benghazi protesters picketed outside in front of the barracks in which the one of the country’s militia, the Libya Shield Brigade, is housed. The crowd of hundreds demanded that the militia be removed and that the regular government troops provide security against the city’s numerous Islamist terrorists, Asher said in a phone conversation with Law Enforcement Examiner in June.

Let them starve: Gitmo swindlers strike again

World Crisis Alert: Guantanamo Bay detainees don’t want to eat. Muslim rapper Yasiin “Mos Def” Bey is so worked up about their appetite plight that he videotaped himself being force-fed to build support for closing Gitmo. Cry me a river.

This latest round of hunger strikes isn’t an international human rights tragedy. It’s another manipulative act of Jihad Theater.

Have you forgotten? Calculated Gitmo fabulism goes back to 2005, when Newsweek fell for false rumors that U.S. soldiers “flushed” the Koran down a toilet at the military detention facility in Cuba. Gullible media reports of “desecration” provided a handy pretext for anti-American riots across the Muslim world that resulted in nearly a dozen deaths. Detainees later ‘fessed up that the conflagration stemmed from one of their own dropping the Koran in prison and blaming a guard.

Meanwhile, it was Gitmo residents themselves who were purposefully tearing up Korans. One guard reported in May 2003: “Detainee residing in cell (redacted) block tore his Quran into small pieces.” Another prisoner “did intentionally destroy his Quran and throw (it) out of his cell,” according to a separate government report.

Al-Qaida explicitly instructs its operatives to lie. A central jihad tenet, taqiyya, encourages Islamists to use deceit and victim politics to wage war. And while soft-on-terror sympathizers cast our military personnel as ruthless war criminals, Gitmo detainees have violently attacked them with everything from makeshift weapons and radios to disgusting cocktails of blood, vomit, feces, urine and sperm.

To date, there are no reports of detainees attacking our guards with the dozens of Sony PlayStations, Nintendo DS consoles, art supplies and DVDs that detainees have been given over the years. The toys and crafts are off limits!

Have you forgotten? The Gitmo stuntmen coordinated suicide threats to drum up global outrage over America’s decision to hold and try them in our military system, instead of in our civilian court system. These sabotage strikes were clear acts of asymmetric warfare by cold-blooded terror operatives versed in exploitation of Western sensibilities and civil liberties. Detainees considered suicides at the facility acts of martyrdom and “a continuance of their jihad against the U.S.,” according to leaked documents. Military commanders discovered that detainees were abusing confidential attorney-client privileges by hiding notes and plots in special envelopes protected from the guards’ reach.

Sound familiar? The same kind of subversive techniques were used by convicted jihad legal helper Lynne Stewart, who smuggled coded messages of Islamic violence on behalf of her client — jailed terrorist Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, mastermind of the 1993 WTC bombing and spiritual instigator of the 1997 massacre of Western tourists in Luxor, Egypt, and the 9/11 attacks.

Also forgotten in all the knee-jerk hoopla over the Gitmo food fight: just how much American officials have bent over backward to accommodate militant detainees’ demands. In his 2005 tell-all book condemning Gitmo, turncoat army sergeant Erik Saar inadvertently exposed our suicidal restraint and indulgence.

Each detainee’s cell has a sink installed low to the ground for feet-washing before prayer, Saar reported. Detainees get “two hot halal, or religiously correct, meals” a day in addition to an MRE (meal ready to eat). Loudspeakers broadcast the Muslims’ call to prayer throughout the day.

‘Gang of eight’ immigration bill may spell disaster for U.S. workers: Report

by Jim Kouri on Thursday, June 20th, 2013

This is article 362 of 452 in the topic Immigration

The so-called “gang of eight‘ immigration bill if passed and signed into law by President Barack Obama may spell the beginning of the end for U.S. citizens in the nation’s workforce, according to a government report released on Tuesday.

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the U.S. Congress’ Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT), the Obama favored immigration bill if passed would adversely effect the salaries and benefits of American workers and hurt unemployed citizens seeking living-wage jobs in the current weak job market and lethargic economy.

According to the CBO/JCT, “Taking into account all of those flows of new immigrants, CBO and JCT expect that a greater number of immigrants with lower skills than with higher skills would be added to the workforce, slightly pushing down the average wage for the labor force as a whole, other things being equal,” the report reads.

The report contradicts a “gang of eight” claim regarding the impact of “legalizing” millions of illegal aliens: that immigration is necessary to grow the U.S. economy..

After reading the CBO/JCT report, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Budget Committee, stated that proposed law would hurt wages.

In addition, members of the liberal-leaning U.S. Commission on Civil Rights also believe that the de facto amnesty law would hurt minority workers who are American citizens.

“Such grant of legal status will likely disproportionately harm lower-skilled African-Americans by making it more difficult for them to obtain employment and depressing their wages when they do obtain employment,” claims the CCR members.

“As with Obamacare, the Gang structured its bill to make it “score” artificially well from a budget perspective. They did this by delaying the newly legalized immigrants’ eligibility for most federal welfare benefits for ten years, which takes those benefits outside of the ten-year window that is scored by the CBO. But that cosmetic shift did little to conceal the plan’s baleful effects,” stated Powerline’s John Hinderaker.

“The only ones who would gain would be those who came here illegally, while native born workers would suffer,” he added.

The CBO report states: “[T]he average wage would be lower than under current law over the first dozen years. … CBO estimates that S. 744 [“gang of eight” bill) would cause the unemployment rate to increase slightly between 2014 and 2020.”

“If millions of people armed with weapons attempted to enter the United States, would we just surrender and allow them to control large parts of the country and make demands? I don’t think so. But why are we rolling over and allowing millions of unarmed people to invade this country and make demands of the government?” asks former police detective Iris Aquino.

Boston bombings: Police say IEDs may lead to ID of suspects

by Jim Kouri on Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

This is article 488 of 776 in the topic Terrorism

In a shocking display of depravity, two detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) met a crowd of enthusiastic runners at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday afternoon, leaving three people dead, while maiming and injuring more than 100 victims in what the Obama White House is now labeling an “act of terror.” Meanwhile, police and military bomb experts believe the IEDs themselves may lead to identifying the perpetrators of Monday’s terrorist attack — an attack that turned celebration and outdoor fun into a war zone on American soil.

According to White House officials, the Patriot Day attack is the worst bombing on U.S. soil since security was tightened after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

During a televised address to the nation, President Barack Obama said the United States will hunt down the people or groups responsible for the attack on a day when tens of thousands of spectators packed the streets to watch the Patriot Day marathon in Boston.

Boston police detectives claim they discovered what could be five additional, non-detonated IEDs around the Boston area. While providing limited information on the explosive devices found, Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said during a press conference that they were “powerful devices.”

More than 16,500 improvised explosive devices were detonated — or were discovered before detonation — against U.S. military personnel deployed in Afghanistan in 2011, proving that the improvised explosive device (IED) is the current terrorists’ and insurgents’ weapons of choice, according to a government report obtained by the National Association of Chiefs of Police’s Explosives and Incendiary Devices Study Group.

According to officials at the Department of Defense, IEDs will most probably be encountered in present and future conflicts due to being relatively inexpensive to develop while their effectiveness is proven by the number of military deaths and casualties, as well as the destruction of military vehicles and other assets. And that doesn’t include those IEDs developed by domestic terrorists on the U.S. mainland.

A number of DOD divisions, including all of the military branches, have been pursuing counter-IED (C-IED) efforts leading up to when DOD established the Joint IED Defeat Task Force, and then followed it with the creation of the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) to lead and coordinate all DOD actions to defeat IEDs.

“From fiscal years 2006 through 2011, JIEDDO has received over $18 billion in funding, however, DOD has funded other C-IED efforts outside of JIEDDO, including $40 billion for Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles,” states the Government Accountability Office report.

GAO analysts reported in February 2012 that DOD does not have full visibility over all of its C-IED efforts. DOD relies on various sources and systems for managing its C-IED efforts, but has not developed a process that provides DOD with a comprehensive listing of its C-IED initiatives and activities.

GAO analysts stated in their report:

“This would include programming and funding pursued by a military service, combatant command, or other DOD component, in addition to activities funded by JIEDDO. In January 2012, DOD estimated it would complete draft revisions to DOD Directive 2000.19E in early 2012, but as of July 2012, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) officials stated that the revised draft was under review at the OSD level, and therefore, not issued.

A Tsunami of Governmental Global Warming Lies

by Alan Caruba on Monday, January 28th, 2013

This is article 226 of 323 in the topic Global Warming

It’s bad enough when major environmental organizations continue to lie about a “global warming” that does not exist in lieu of a planetary cooling cycle now entering its 17th year, but when those allied with the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are also in charge of producing a government report on it, the public is being lied to in ways that obscure their bias and agenda.

This is the case of the recently released draft report of the National Climate Assessment and Development Advisory Committee (NCADAC) titled “Climate Changeand the American People.” The majority of the thirteen senior scientists responsible for it are closely allied with the IPCC. No doubt, the final report will be cited by the IPCC as further “proof” that global warming is real.

The Liar-in-Chief about global warming—AKA climate change—is President Obama who, during his second inaugural speech managed to ignore any mention of the nation’s catastrophic debt in favor of warning that climate change is causing forest fires, drought, and powerful storms. Excuse me, but the climate has always included these natural events. They are not the result of a warming that is not occurring.

Some believe that an effort is afoot  to revive cap-and-trade legislation that would tax so-called greenhouse gas emissions despite the fact that they play no role in either climate change or the bogus global warming. Others think that the EPA will be used as the blunt instrument to restrict emissions.

It is troubling enough that a January 24 edition of The Wall Street Journal included a commentary by Bjorn Lomborg, author and director of the Copenhagen Consensus Center in Washington, D.C., that criticized the President’s speech at the same time saying “This does not mean that climate change isn’t an issue. In the long run, the world needs to cut carbon dioxide because it causes global warming.”

No, carbon dioxide (CO2) doesn’t cause something that isn’t happening. It causes all the vegetation on Earth to thrive and that is why greenhouses increase it in order to stimulate growth. Reducing it via government regulation threatens the entire economy.

ccording to the NCADAC report, rising temperatures pose a health threat. They are not rising and countless retirees head to warmer states for the simple reason that warmer weather extends life while colder weather kills people. People who live in Florida and the Southwest are not moving to Minnesota or Alaska.

As Steve Gorham, the author of “The Mad, Mad, Mad World of Climatism: Mankind and Climate Change Mania”, has pointed out regarding the NCADAC report, “The document uses the word ‘extreme’ more than 600 times to create an alarming picture of the future. It predicts ‘extreme weather events…extreme weather…extreme snowstorms…extreme winds…extreme drought…extreme floods…extreme rainfall’ and many other ‘extremes’, all claimed to be due to mankind’s relatively small emissions of CO2, a trace gas in the atmosphere. The report’s conclusions are based on computer model projections.”

Environmental studies professor, Roger Pielke Jr., notes that among those in charge of the latest government report are its chairman, biologist Jerry Melillo whose online bio cites his “long association with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.” One of its vice chairmen, economics professor Gary Yohe has the same credential.

U.S. imposes sanctions on Hezbollah terrorist network

by Jim Kouri on Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

This is article 324 of 776 in the topic Terrorism

Secretary Timothy Geithner and his Treasury Department ordered the imposition of financial sanctions on the Lebanon-based, Iran-supported terrorist group Hezbollah on Friday, according the a government report.

The U.S. government sanctions are being imposed due to Hezbollah providing material support to the government of Syria, according the Treasury Department press statement.

In a press statement, the Treasury Department accused Hezbollah of providing training, advisors and “extensive logistical support” to the Syrian military and police in the regime’s quest to destroy its opposition as a result of the uprising that started more than a year ago.

“Hezbollah [is] directly [training] Syrian government personnel inside Syria and has facilitated the training of Syrian forces by Iran’s terrorist arm, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps – Qods Force (IRGC-QF),” said the Treasury Department statement.

In addition, the U.S. government alleges that the terrorist group is pushing war refugees out of Lebanon and back into war-torn Syria.

Hezbollah’s extensive support to the Syrian government’s violent suppression of the Syrian people exposes the true nature of this terrorist organization and its destabilizing presence in the region,” said the statement.

As a result of the Treasury Department sanctions, any assets belonging to Hezbollah or its members under U.S. jurisdiction will be frozen. Also Americans and U.S. businesses are prohibited from doing business with the terrorist group or its affiliates under penalty of federal law.

Hezbollah is already a U.S. Department of State designated terrorist organization which was declared in 2001. Its alleged commander, Hasan Nasrallah, was named a terrorist in 1995 during the Clinton administration.

Chinese release report slamming U.S. crime, guns and police

by Jim Kouri on Monday, May 28th, 2012

This is article 137 of 329 in the topic Criminal Activity

In an international game of tit-for-tat, the Chinese government on Friday released a biting report regarding human rights in the United States, zeroing-in on crime statistics, gun ownership, and police action against rioters such as the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

The Chinese enjoy flaunting their military power during national holidays, according to analysts. Photo credit: Global Security

The Chinese were responding to a recent U.S. government report on China’s human rights practices by issuing their own report on human rights issues within the United States.

“When I read the report I couldn’t help but notice the fact that at least in the United States we keep records of people being arrested, or who have been killed or injured, or other items listed on the Chinese ‘study.’ However, try to find out what’s happened to hundreds and thousands of Chinese dissenters and ‘enemies of the state’ — where are those records, and if they exist,  how accurate are they?” asks political strategist and attorney Mike Baker.

The so-called “Human Rights Record of the United States in 2011″ was released by the State Council Information Office of the People’s Republic of China, in response to the “Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2011″ issued by the U.S. State Department on May 24. While the U.S. mentions China in its report, and lists human rights violations in the PRC, there are other nations listed.

However, the Chineseonly targeted the United States in their report, causing many officials to believe it’s more political than humanitarian.

“Believe it or not, when I first read the report I thought people like Nancy Pelosi or Eric Holder wrote it. That’s how far out in left field the Chinese are when it comes to gun ownership,” said former police detective and firearms instructor Theo Mannzapoulos of New York. “Controlling people don’t like having those they wish to control armed and trained,” said the veteran soldier and cop.

“Let’s just say this to anyone who slams this nation: one of our big problems in the U.S. is foreigners sneaking into this country by the thousands…  tens of thousands each month, if not more. I don’t recall seeing China being inundated with illegal aliens, except a few from maybe North Korea,” Baker noted.

Following are a mere handful of the figures from the Chinese report:

* In 2010, the U.S. residents aged 12 and above experienced 3.8 million violent victimizations, 1.4 million serious violent victimizations, 14.8 million property victimizations and 138,000 personal thefts. The violent victimization rate was 15 victimizations per 1,000 residents. The crime rate surged in many cities and regions in the United States.

* The U.S. people hold between 35 percent and 50 percent of the world’s civilian-owned guns, with every 100 people having 90 guns.

* Over 30,000 Americans die every year from gun violence and another 200,000 Americans are estimated to be injured each year due to guns.

* Almost 1,000 people were reportedly arrested in first two weeks of the Occupy Wall Street protest movement.

* In 2010, 1.6 million children in the United States were living on the street, in homeless shelters or motels, up 33 percent from that in 2007.

* The actual number of violations that may have occurred from 2001 to 2008 could approach 40,000 possible violations of law, Executive Order, or other regulations governing intelligence investigations.

Obamacare: Citizens’ medical records security may be breached, report warns

by Jim Kouri on Monday, March 26th, 2012

Following the heated debate and passage of Obamacare, the Treasury Department reported that the U.S. Internal Revenue Service — an agency under the direction of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner –  would hire upwards of 10,000 more agents to enforce several provisions of the far-reaching health care program, according to a government report.

With the IRS set to take a significant role in the new health care law signed by President Barack Obama on national television, that part of the Obamacare plan continues to worry those who have little faith in government efficiency, especially when Americans’ privacy issues are involved, according to the American Society for Effective Healthcare

Many security experts fear that Americans’ patient information will be vulnerable to unauthorized access and distribution with perpetrators being outside hackers or IRS insiders.

Today’s Internal Revenue Service relies extensively on computerized systems to carry out its demanding responsibilities to collect taxes, process tax returns, and enforce the nation’s tax laws. Add the new responsibilities of taxing health care under the guise of levying fines on those who violate Obamacare provisions as well as record keeping, and there now exists a greater likelihood of patient information being unlawfully accessed or accidentally released to third parties.

“Effective information security controls are essential to protect financial and taxpayer information from inadvertent or deliberate misuse, improper disclosure, or destruction,” said Sidney Franes, owner of FLT Security Services.

“Having a person’s medical records along with other personal information is an identity thief’s dream come true, especially the [computer] hackers,” said Franes.

As part of its audit of IRS’s financial statements, Congress requested the Government Accountability Office to assess the status of IRS’s actions to correct or mitigate previously reported information security weaknesses, and whether controls over key financial and tax processing systems are effective in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of financial and sensitive taxpayer information.

To do this, GAO examined IRS information security policies, plans, and procedures; tested controls over key financial applications; and interviewed key agency officials at six sites, said officials.

The GAO reported that the IRS has continued to make progress in correcting previously reported information security weaknesses that GAO reported as unresolved at the conclusion of its audit.

Specifically, IRS has corrected or mitigated 28 of the 89 weaknesses and deficiencies — 21 of 74 previously identified information security control weaknesses and 7 of 15 previously identified program deficiencies, according to GAO officials.

For example, it has changed vendor-supplied user accounts and passwords and avoided storing clear-text passwords in scripts. It also enhanced its policies and procedures for configuring mainframe operations and  established an alternate processing site for its procurement system.

While IRS has corrected 28 control weaknesses and program deficiencies, 61 of them — or about 69 percent — remain unresolved or unmitigated, stated the GAO report.

The IRS continued to install patches in an untimely manner and used passwords that were not complex. In addition, IRS did not always verify that remedial actions were implemented or effectively mitigated the security weaknesses, the GAO report revealed.

Feds fail to intercept nuclear terrorists

by Jim Kouri on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

This is article 25 of 63 in the topic Border Issues
The GAO “Red Teams” were successful in sneaking radioactive material across both U.S. borders, yet the White House and members of Congress continue to ignore the threat.

Practically nothing has been done to prevent a nuclear or radiological weapon or materials from entering the United States. Credit: Domestic Nuclear Detection Office

In the latest example of incompetence by the federal government agency created to keeping America safe, the Department of Homeland Security has wasted $4 billion on a failed program to install crucial radiation detectors at U.S. border crossings, according to a government report released after the New Year holiday.

Launched a few years ago, the costly effort was supposed to create and install detecting machines to intercept nuclear terrorists attempting to enter the country. The agency’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office was charged with developing and acquiring the essential equipment that could sniff out nuclear and radiological materials before they made it into the U.S.

But $4 billion later the machines are still not in place, according to a report (Combating Nuclear Smuggling) issued this week by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the investigative arm of congress. Even more shameful is that machines were created but can’t be used because they’re too big for border inspection lanes. Additionally, the software installed in the devices doesn’t work properly.

Here’s another enraging little piece of information; the Homeland Security agency that’s supposed to use the equipment, Customs and Border Protection, had “made it clear” that it did not want the nuclear detecting machines because they would not fit in primary inspection lanes and would slow down the flow of commerce and cause significant delays.

On a positive note, top officials at Janet Napolitano’s Department of Homeland Security admit that they are “mindful of getting something delivered that has credible bases for the implementation plan that follows.” Perhaps some high-ranking government official can translate that into plain English for taxpaying Americans stuck with financing the extravaganza.

In the meantime, lack of nuclear terrorist interceptors aside, the border is “as secure as it has ever been,” according to Napolitano.

In previous GAO operations, as reported by the Law Enforcement Examiner, “Red Teams” were successful in sneaking radiological material across both northern and southern borders into the U.S. totally undetected.
