Developing a perspective …

by Stephen Levine on Monday, July 14th, 2014

This is article 448 of 471 in the topic Government Corruption

Let us consider three world events by developing a perspective framework based on reality …

  • Let us assume that the world is a noisy place, filled with competing interests, all vying for your attention, support, and money.
  • Let us also assume that one must produce bizarre, shocking, or media-worthy events to rise above the daily noise.
  • Let us assume that repetition leads to belief, regardless of the actual facts.
  • Let us assume that the majority of people who are exposed to a message will not take the time and effort necessary to verify for themselves the veracity of the proposed proposition.
  • And, let us assume that most people will accept those propositions that convey some advantage and reject those propositions that appear to have adverse effects.

If there is anyone who can disagree with the above assumptions, let them put forward their arguments for discussion.

Scenario One: Global Warming …

There are those who want to gain or maintain political dominance, but their proposition involves increasing totalitarian measures, the reduction of individual liberties, and must be financed using the proceeds from the public treasury.

What better way to achieve these political objectives than to use “science” and scientists – generally held in higher esteem than corrupt and self-serving politicians and bureaucrats – as a method to validate your political agenda and make it palatable to the public?

Pumping billions of dollars into the scientific infrastructure and making research than tends to support the political agenda the major game in town. Thus biasing the research to one side, while simultaneously depriving the contrarian viewpoint of funding. Add in activism and peer-shunning and you have a perfect storm of deception.

In order to maintain social entitlements and programs plus their wealth redistribution schemes, taxes must be raised across the board, and disproportionately among productive individuals and corporations. With the side-effect of forcing people to keep their wealth and earnings abroad regardless of the increasing tracking and sanctions on foreign transactions.

Government Data Show U.S. in Decade-Long Cooling

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s most accurate, up-to-date temperature data confirm the United States has been cooling for at least the past decade. The NOAA temperature data are driving a stake through the heart of alarmists claiming accelerating global warming.

Responding to widespread criticism that its temperature station readings were corrupted by poor siting issues and suspect adjustments, NOAA established a network of 114 pristinely sited temperature stations spread out fairly uniformly throughout the United States. Because the network, known as the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN), is so uniformly and pristinely situated, the temperature data require no adjustments to provide an accurate nationwide temperature record. USCRN began compiling temperature data in January 2005. Now, nearly a decade later, NOAA has finally made the USCRN temperature readings available.

According to the USCRN temperature readings, U.S. temperatures are not rising at all – at least not since the network became operational 10 years ago. Instead, the United States has cooled by approximately 0.4 degrees Celsius, which is more than half of the claimed global warming of the twentieth century.

And then there are those who subvert science to advance their own agenda …

Due to the Climate-gate e-mails, we see that peer-reviewed science is not immune from manipulation.

A&E so offended by Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson that they’re continuing marathon airings

by Doug Powers on Friday, December 20th, 2013

This is article 104 of 116 in the topic Hollywood

As you know, A&E has suspended Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson for the sin of not conforming to the worldview of people who probably don’t watch Duck Dynasty.

A&E was obviously so offended that there are actually a couple of times in their lineup where the lucrative franchise isn’t airing:

And that’s not the entire picture. As Christmas approaches, the number of airings ramp up around the clock:

Despite the suspension, A&E still has several hours of “Duck Dynasty” programming over the next week. For Thursday night, there is three hours of shows the network is airing. On Sunday Dec. 22, A&E will be airing the popular show from 5 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next morning. On Monday Dec. 23, episodes will air from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next morning. On Christmas Eve, “Duck Dynasty” will be aired from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. And on Christmas Day, A&E will air “Duck Dynasty” episodes from 3:30 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next morning. All times are Eastern.

If Robertson further angers A&E, the programming execs will have to convince Disney to create a 25th hour in the day so they can squeeze in even more airings.

In closing, file this under “when hell freezes over”:

Mrs SLH @PekeMom4 Follow

I know that A&E will want to donate all the $ they made from to GLAAD as penance.

Obama Gets His War On

by Daniel Greenfield on Wednesday, August 28th, 2013

This is article 28 of 42 in the topic Moral Values

Yesterday the media was too busy drowning the country in the spectacle of the antics of a former Disney starlet at the Video Music Awards for a cable channel that no longer does music videos to report on the antics of a former community organizer who was busy sketching out plans for an illegal war that he had been on record as opposing.

Shamelessness is the quality that Barack Obama’s antics in Washington and Miley Cyrus’ antics in
Brooklyn have in common. Not merely a shamelessness that emerges out of a humiliating episode, but shamelessness as their fundamental attribute. A shamelessness that aspires to be cool because it appears to achieve the ultimate goal of coolness of not being bound by anything at all.

Miley Cyrus was once a Disney starlet. Obama was once anti-war. In 2007, he told voters that the president does not have the authority under the Constitution to unilaterally go to war unless there is an urgent threat to the United States. Now he’s planning a second war in which the only urgent threat is to the military prospects of his Islamist allies for taking over another country.

Obama’s shamelessness isn’t incidental to his actions; it’s their whole point. Like Cyrus, he is celebrating his liberation from any standard or value, triumphing over them through attitude alone. And in a world without morals or values, the only thing that counts is power and the will to use it.

It may be sex in Brooklyn and power in Washington, but both of the tawdry spectacles expose the elemental thing that is left behind when all virtues and values fade away. Without these things, the human animal becomes just that, a repugnant and irredeemable spectacle that attracts the like-minded and repels everyone else.

Without these virtues, why shouldn’t Obama break his word and get his war on? Like every moral dilemma that most people face, it’s only a dilemma if  you have morals. If you don’t, then it’s no longer a matter of what the right thing to do is, but whether you can do it.

Or as Aleister Crowley put it, in between one of his bouts of Satanism and binging on cocaine, “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law”.

That is the cheerful maxim of our Aeon of Horus, our entertainment industry, whose products can be seen on display at the MTV Video Music Awards. MTV long ago dispensed with much of the music, to make way for the drama of reality television. Its real entertainment product is people doing what they wilt and becoming famous for it.

From 8 to 11 AM, it’s MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, carefully branded in case anyone confuses it with A&E’s  16 and Pregnant or PBS’s 16 and Pregnant. Then it’s Teen Mom. In the evening there’s more Teen Mom. And if you make it to 4 AM, tune in to AMTV RISE & GRIND. And at some point, Barack Obama or Michelle Obama will show up to tell everyone to exercise and eat healthy.

Miley Cyrus’ performance embodied everything that MTV stands for; tacky, desperate for attention and in the real world, pregnant at 16.

Flashback 2008: The seduction of Hannah Montana

by Michelle Malkin on Tuesday, August 27th, 2013

This is article 97 of 116 in the topic Hollywood

The Disney girls gone bad of Hollywood are not created in a vacuum. They have many, many enablers. Before focusing on corporations like MTV, though, we need first to look at the closest adults who surround these damaged youths. I did just that in 2008, when all the warning signs were flashing around then-15-year-old Miley Cyrus.

A related good read: How do we help Miley?

The seduction of Hannah Montana

First Britney. Then Lindsay. And now: Miley Cyrus. Do they ever learn?

By “they,” I don’t mean the girls. I mean their parents. Where are they? What the hell are they thinking?

I don’t know how many times I’ve asked those questions over the years as a parade of young Hollywood starlets has burst onto the scene with wholesome charm, achieved dizzying fame and fortune, and then crashed back to Earth half-naked with corrupted souls and drug-glazed eyes.

Are parents without scruples more likely to sacrifice their daughters to the wolves of the entertainment industry? Or does show business sap all the common sense out of mothers and fathers who should know better? Either way, they are guilty of child abandonment.

Cyrus, for those of you without girls in the house, is the 15-year-old singer/actress with a runaway hit TV show (“Hannah Montana”), lucrative concert tour, and a Disney empire valued at nearly $1 billion. (Fortunately, my 7-year-old daughter is more fanatical about horses than cable pop stars.) The Mickey Mouse company is now in full meltdown mode over Cyrus’s latest photo shoot gone awry.

1avf.jpg The photographer was famed celebrity snapper Annie Leibovitz. The magazine is Vanity Fair. Why those two names didn’t set off alarm bells the size of Texas for the Cyrus adults is beyond me. Leibovitz has a reputation for talking subjects into titillating poses under the guise of “art.” She put Demi Moore naked and pregnant on the cover of Vanity Fair.

1avf002.jpg She also put rising glamour girls Keira Knightly and Scarlett Johansson on the magazine’s cover unclothed; Johansson’s back side was completely exposed. Another promising young actress, Rachel McAdams, had the dignity, class, and self-posession to refuse to appear in the photo spread. When she arrived on set and discovered what the editors were up to, she walked out and fired her representative.

So where were Miley’s parents during the photo shoot? Dad hung out for a while posing for some of the photos (which featured bare-midriffed Miley draped across his knee); Vanity Fair quickly posted some video footage of those scenes to somehow “prove” that Miley wasn’t manipulated:

But according to the NYPost, Billy Ray left the set before the controversial nude photo was taken–and somehow, Miley’s grandmother and teacher who were left to supervise her had no clue about what was going on, either:

Miley’s parents did leave the shoot and were not present for the final shot, nor did they see any digital images of the shot in question,” a Miley spokeswoman told The Post yesterday.

Her grandmother and her teacher were left to supervise, according to People magazine.

“Annie convinced them it was going to be artistic,” a source told People.

Obama’s Walt Disney Energy Policies

by Paul Driessen on Saturday, December 8th, 2012

This is article 209 of 269 in the topic energy

In Walt Disney’s 1940 animated film “Pinocchio,” woodcarver Geppetto dreams that his wooden marionette will turn into a real boy. Geppetto’s hopes are immortalized in the song “When You Wish Upon a Star,” which begins: “When you wish upon a star/ Makes no difference who you are/ Anything your heart desires/ Will come to you.”

The song won an Academy Award. It didn’t win a Nobel Prize for Economics or any awards for public policy, and was never intended as a guide for government energy and environmental programs.

Nevertheless, President Obama and the radical environmentalists who helped him win a second term seem to believe that, if only they wish hard enough, they can make the sun, wind, waves, algae and fields of corn replace fossil fuels as the world’s primary energy sources.

Never mind that these misnamed “clean and green” energy sources are still too impractical, unreliable, expensive and land-intensive to compete with oil, natural gas and coal on a level playing field. Team Obama will make non-hydrocarbon energy more competitive, by tilting the playing field.

Knowing hope and hype energy can’t survive without mandates and subsidies, they are doubling down on grants and loans for campaign-contributing corporate cronies. They ignore environmental study, health and endangered species laws, to green-light favored projects and technologies, overlooking bird kills and habitats blanketed or impacted by wind turbines, solar panels and algal ponds, and disregarding impacts of wind turbines on the health of people living near industrial wind facilities. They dismiss the fact that ethanol production requires billions of gallons of water and prodigious amounts of diesel and natural gas.

President Obama’s hype, hope and wish energy extracts tens of billions of dollars a year from productive, profitable sectors of the economy – to subsidize “alternative energy,” at the rate of some $200,000 per job “created” by government dictate and taxpayer money. Equally bad, that expensive energy increases costs for every family, factory, farm, hospital, restaurant and other business in the country, adversely affecting job creation and retention throughout the nation.

For hydrocarbon producers, the Obama Administration is tilting the playing field the other way. Federal bureaucrats delay and prevent leasing, drilling, mining and production of the fossil fuels that provide 85% of all US energy, versus less than 3% from these favored “renewable” sources.

Hydrocarbons generate millions of jobs and hundreds of billions of dollars annually in economic activity, royalties and taxes. And yet, the Administration continues to throw senseless obstacles in the way of efforts to produce more onshore and offshore oil and gas right here in the United States, utilize our abundant coal resources, and bring Canadian oil to U.S. refineries by building the Keystone XL pipeline.

While they ignore the slaughter of countless eagles, whooping cranes, egrets, falcons, hawks, geese, bats and other flying creatures by wind turbines – Interior Department bureaucrats use sage grouse and prairie chickens to stymie leasing, drilling and hydraulic fracturing on public and private lands alike.

Fracking was developed by private industry, using private funding and innovation on private lands. It is the primary reason petroleum production (oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids) has increased in the United States, despite Team Obama’s leasing and drilling moratoria.

Yes, we are in the silly season of political manuevering, but President Barack Obama has outdone himself on proving to the American people he is a silly man.

Imagine a grownup blaming his opponent for concentrating on Sesame Street and not Wall Street – saying nothing about all of the Goldman Sachs bankers and an ex-New York Federal Reserve President heading his financial team.

Truth be told – Sesame Street, Big Bird and Elmo are extremely profitable brands – even compared to Disney standards. They can easily be sold in the commercial market and do not require the taxpayer to subsidize their existence. That’s what Mitt Romney was saying. Drawing a bright-line test of determining whether or not it is worth borrowing money from China to support this profitable venture. These characters have produced well over $1 BILLION in sales – remember the “Elmo” craze a few seasons back?

The President is ducking the real issues: the collapse of our economy and his misadventure in foreign affairs. He is openly lying to the American people about terrorism and what happened to our Ambassador to Libya after the embassy protection detail was gutted to prove that the United States is no longer a world leader and is a less intrusive element on foreign soil. The key to Obama’s apology and appeasement tour.

Perhaps Obama doesn’t really want another term as President – it cuts into making millions, playing golf and traveling like a rock star being adored by millions. Or then again, he may need to “get out of Dodge” before the jig is up and his records start to surface. Proving that he is the Manchurian candidate with doubtful eligibility for office. Maybe his next book will be: Obama: The Greatest Hoax in the History of Man?

TSA Pat-Down of the Day

The Daily Mail says this was recorded at Chicago’s O’Hare airport. The three year old boy is in a wheelchair because of a broken leg and trying to get to Disney World, but he won’t be hijacking the plane today thanks to crack security. Not this time, Junior Jihadi:

You know, kid, for a hundred dollar bribe fee you could avoid the hassle next time.

Here’s more security camera footage from the same airport later that day:

Perfect: ‘Inconvenient Truth’ Director to Make Short Film About Obama’s First 3 Years

by Doug Powers on Sunday, February 26th, 2012

This is article 39 of 116 in the topic Hollywood

Give the Obama campaign credit for realizing that to make a movie about these past three-plus years will require a director who is comfortable working in the myth, fantasy, science fiction, true crime and disaster genres:

With Hollywood gathering this weekend for the 84th Academy Awards, President Barack Obama has recruited Oscar-winning documentary director Davis Guggenheim to again produce a short film for his campaign.

Obama’s re-election staff in Chicago spent $162,834 on the film last month, according to the January Federal Election Commission filing. Currently in post-production, the film focuses on the president’s first three years in office, according to a campaign official.

Unfortunately for the director, “Titanic” has already been done, so he’ll have to come up with a different angle.

Let’s help with a title for the movie. I’m going with “Obama, the Movie: You have to see it to find out what’s in it.” Or maybe a Disney approach: “Solyndraella.”

The Land of Obama Make-Believe

Where did President Obama go after killing off thousands of Keystone XL pipeline construction and manufacturing jobs? Why, Disney World, of course. Sabotaging work is hard work for Goofy and his pals.

And where’d he head after that? Why, up to Manhattan for more high-priced campaign fundraisers charging up to $38,500 per partier. The business of wining and dining politically connected donors ain’t child’s play, you know.

Obama touted a White House foreign tourism initiative on Thursday with Cinderella’s castle as his backdrop. “America is open for business,” he proclaimed chirpily to the rest of the globe.

Tell that to the Keystone managers in Canada whom Obama and his State Department rebuffed — after years of planning and review — in order to appease militant environmentalists and Hollywood celebs. The Animatronic Divider robotically lambasted Republicans for pushing him to make a decision this week. But Senate and House Democrats issued the sharpest rebukes to White House obstructionism:

“President Obama’s decision on the Keystone XL pipeline is a major setback for the American economy, American workers, and America’s energy independence,” Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V., said.

“The rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline permit is a missed opportunity to drastically turn this economy around. This pipeline would have created thousands of new jobs and helped to ensure our energy independence,” Rep. Jason Altmire, D-Pa., lamented.

“This delay is just playing politics with American jobs and American energy security,” Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, pointed out.

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle scratched their heads as the job-snuffer-in-chief bolted to Orlando’s fantasyland to promote economic growth. But there’s no more fitting place on Earth for the man whose escapist administration occupies the land of make-believe and no consequences. (Bonus moment: Obama got to shake hands with Mickey Mouse, who infamously turned up on a Florida ACORN voter registration form in 2008. Constituent outreach at its most surreal.)

On the very same day he quashed Keystone, Obama released his first campaign ad of 2012 — hyping his stellar record on energy jobs. It’s Opposite Day at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, 365 days a year. Even more comically, the ad touted his exemplary ethics record by quoting a moldy three-year-old endorsement from left-leaning Politifact. And as bipartisan Capitol Hill outrage over the half-billion-dollar Solyndra solar stimulus bust mounts, Obama had the nerve to sprinkle his inaugural campaign spot with — wait for it — solar panels.

Instead of supporting new infrastructure jobs in America through an energy independence-enhancing project that has bipartisan legislative support on Capitol Hill, the president flew to Disney World to peddle looser visa restrictions in China and Brazil by executive order. He also will expand the Visa Waiver Program (a security loophole-ridden program that was suspended temporarily after the 9/11 terrorist attacks) to speed foreign travel.

In case anyone needs reminding, it was the relentless drive of the tourism industry and kowtowing State Department bureaucrats that led to the Bush-era Visa Express Program, which relaxed visa policies, eliminated in-person consulate interviews and opened the door to the 9/11 hijackers. Brazil is just the latest base for al-Qaida and other Islamic jihadi groups.

Obama Going to Disney World

by Doug Powers on Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

This is article 238 of 466 in the topic Immigration

nullI was really excited about this at first because I thought we’d finally get a photo of Obama in the Magic Kingdom with Goofy. But sadly, Joe Biden won’t be travelling with the President this week.

Why am I guessing that this POTUS assistance will culminate in Disney going bankrupt before summertime?

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama will visit Walt Disney World on Thursday to “unveil a strategy that will significantly help boost tourism and travel,” a White House aide said today.

The president will deliver his remarks inside the Magic Kingdom, with Disney’s iconic Cinderella Castle as backdrop.

That “strategy” is looser visa policies to get more visitors to places like Disney World. Loosening visa policies is not a good idea.

And of course, whenever Obama visits a state these days, Dems in toss-up districts scatter like cockroaches when the light gets switched on. Florida Democrats are offering the usual “uh, I have to re-arrange my sock drawer” excuse for missing Obama’s visit and avoiding a possible kiss of political death:

It doesn’t appear, however, that Obama will get much love from local politicians. Aides to U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson said the Florida Democrat was unlikely to attend because the office “got word too late” of the visit and had meetings planned in other parts of the state. And Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer is scheduled to be in Washington that day for a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

Barack Obama — the Maytag Repairman of presidents.
