In Invasion, published eight years ago, I pointed out that the Bush administration’s lame immigration enforcement measures included orange rubber cones and useless “No Entry” signs posted at the border.
Well, file this under “The more things change.” The Washington Times reports that the Obama administration is posting new signs at the border warning travelers and illegal aliens about violent smugglers.
The federal government has posted signs along a major interstate highway in Arizona, more than 100 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, warning travelers the area is unsafe because of drug and alien smugglers, and a local sheriff says Mexican drug cartels now control some parts of the state.
The signs were posted by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) along a 60-mile stretch of Interstate 8 between Casa Grande and Gila Bend, a major east-west corridor linking Tucson and Phoenix with San Diego.
They warn travelers that they are entering an “active drug and human smuggling area” and they may encounter “armed criminals and smuggling vehicles traveling at high rates of speed.” Beginning less than 50 miles south of Phoenix, the signs encourage travelers to “use public lands north of Interstate 8″ and to call 911 if they “see suspicious activity.”
As Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer noted earlier this summer, the signs are empty gestures without real physical deterrents to back them up:
Don’t let the White House spin on illegal alien statistics distract you. The bipartisan open-borders end game is amnesty. Always has been. Always will be.
If the administration would take meaningful steps to secure our border, it wouldn’t need to put up signs in Arizona warning citizens that travel 100 miles from the border is unsafe (“Signs in Arizona warn of smuggler dangers”).
Likewise, the Department of Homeland Security should not spend its time writing memos about how to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants or dismiss thousands of deportation cases.
As Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight, that is why I’m asking for hearings and answers from DHS on what it’s doing to protect the border.
The administration continues to take actions that seem counterproductive to border security, and we need to know why that is the case. We need to make sure DHS is complying with, and enforcing, our nation’s immigration laws.
Harry Reid’s advancing dementia became quite obvious recently when he used the Race card in a feeble attempt to paint all Republicans as anti-Hispanic bigots.
As reported at alternet.com, Harry’s words of wisdom were:
“I don’t know how anyone of Hispanic heritage could be a Republican, OK,” said the ranking Democrat at a campaign event with Latino supporters earlier this week. “Do I need to say more?”
Actually, Harry, you did say quite a lot more on the floor of the U.S. Senate when you declared that illegal aliens (90% Hispanic) are scam artists and free loaders.
Surely you remember this classless diatribe from just few years ago?
Your office released the following statements (in bold) concerning illegal immigration:
“In response to increased terrorism and abuse of social programs by aliens, (I) today introduced the first and only comprehensive immigration reform bill in Congress. Currently, an alien living illegally in the United States often pays no taxes but receives unemployment, welfare, free medical care, and other federal benefits. Recent terrorist acts, including the World Trade Center bombing, have underscored the need to keep violent criminals out of the country.”
Your bill, Senator Reid, titled the “Immigration Stabilization Act,” would overhaul the nation’s immigration laws, and calls for a massive scale-down of immigrants allowed into the country. The bill also changes asylum laws to prevent phony asylum seekers.
The senator said the U.S. open door policy is being abused at the expense of honest, working citizens.
The senator continued:
“We are a country founded upon fairness and justice. An individual in real threat of torture or long-term incarceration because of his or her political beliefs can still seek asylum. But this bill closes the door to those who want to abuse America’s inherent generosity and legal system.”
“Our borders have overflowed with illegal immigrants placing tremendous burdens on our criminal justice system, schools and social programs. The Immigration and Naturalization Service needs the ability to step up enforcement. Our federal wallet is stretched to the limit by illegal aliens getting welfare, food stamps, medical care, and other benefits often without paying any taxes.”
“Safeguards like welfare and free medical care are in place to boost Americans in need of short-term assistance. These programs were not meant to entice freeloaders and scam artists from around the world. Even worse, Americans have seen heinous crimes committed by individuals who are here illegally.”
Specific provisions proposed by the senator in the Immigration Stabilization Act include:
Reduces annual legal immigration levels. Relatives other than spouse or minor children admitted only if already on immigration waiting lists and their admission does not raise annual immigration levels above approved level.
Reforms asylum rules to prevent aliens from entering the United States illegally under phony “asylum” claims.
Expands list of felonies considered “aggravated” felonies requiring exclusion and deportation of criminal aliens. Allows courts to order deportation at time of sentencing.
Increases penalties for failing to depart or re-entering the United States after a final order of deportation order.
We have learned nothing since America’s worst illegal alien catch-and-release nightmare, the Angel Resendiz case (go here for a refresher course).
The latest victims of the feds’ refusal to fully fund detention space and stop the deportation revolving door? Victims of an illegal alien drunk driver in Prince William County, Va., who had been, as so many countless illegal alien criminals before him, released on his own recognizance pending deportation, via WTOP:
The Chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors is furious with the federal government after learning that Carlos Montano – the man responsible for a car accident that killed one nun and injured two others Sunday morning – was an illegal immigrant in the early stages of being deported.
In a phone interview with WTOP Monday, Corey Stewart says on two separate occasions in 2007 and 2009, Prince William County Police identified Montano as an illegal alien.
After serving his sentences, Prince William County Police handed Montano over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, who were told to deport him.
Stewart says ICE has refused to tell Prince William County why Montano was released instead of being deported.
The latest ICE statistics show the agency is actually detaining fewer people now on an average daily basis than they did in 2009.
The Sunday morning crash killed Sister Denise Mosier and injured two other nuns as they were driving to a retreat at the Benedictine Monastery in Bristow, Va. The two injured nuns were in critical but stable condition, according to St. Gertrude High School in Richmond, run by the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia.
The passage of the complete Arizona Immigration Law SB-1070 may not have stood up to the nitpicking, Obama-persuaded, decision of Judge Susan Bolton, but its effects and implications had started to be felt even before the judge’s announcement.
It seems that many illegal aliens already here across the border by means of breaking United States crossing laws had started to become a bit spooked
that the long arm of the United States law would be clamping down on them; maybe even in a manner related to what their own home countries do to similar law breakers.
Not a pretty picture even just a few miles south across the Mexican border; so these nervous aliens decided not to wait to see what would happen if the new law became active and they began the trek southward back from whence they came to America.
Concurrent with this reverse migration, the Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), an organization opposed to illegal aliens in the United States, is according to FoxNews.com on July 28, 2010, “urging U.S. citizens to pressure the White House and the Homeland Security Department to establish ‘safe departure’ border checkpoints along the border for the emigrants so they can leave without fear of being detained or prosecuted for immigration crimes.”
FoxNews.com quoted a written statement from William Gheen saying, “The peaceful and gradual exodus of illegals from Arizona shows there is no need for comprehensive immigration reform amnesty. Comprehensive immigration enforcement works and has the desired effect without mass deportations.”
ALIPAC is calling on the Obama administration to ensure a smooth exit for illegal immigrants who are trying to leave the U.S. due to the weak economy and Arizona’s strict new immigration law. Gheen said the safe passage would ensure that illegals “leave in an orderly fashion, instead of trying risky he cartels for passage south, or fleeing to other states.”
FoxNews.com also reported that “neither the White House nor Homeland Security responded to e-mails seeking comment.
That last statement by FoxNews.com is understandable as neither the White House nor Homeland Security WANTS the illegal aliens to leave; they and the liberal Democrats in Congress have been planning on those illegals to vote early and often as the saying goes, for liberal Democrats for election and reelection.
But now that the world knows of Judge Susan Bolton’s cave to the Obama wishes for serious parts of the Arizona law, the illegal alien lovers of this Administration and liberal Congress may not have to worry about them leaving Arizona.
Although, if I were a betting man, I would think twice about the aliens staying in Arizona. Not all of the new law was overridden by the Judge and Arizona still has Super Sheriff Joe Arpaio, an illegal alien’s worst nightmare. Maybe that nice long walk back to where they came from is beginning to look better and better.
Fox reported that an estimated 100,000 illegal immigrants have left Arizona in the past two years as it cracked down on illegal immigration and its economy was hard hit by the recession.
Upon learning that 12 million illegal aliens have invaded our nation and are still occupying American soil, most Americans become alarmed and angry. What will the People think and do when they learn that the problem may actually be more than three times greater than the government admits?
A group called Californians for Population Stabilization has issued a report, which concludes that as many as 38 million illegal aliens are occupying America.
38 million illegal aliens occupying American soil!
Rather than the twelve million reported by illegal alien friendly morons in the Obama administration and U.S. Congress.
Incomprehensible!
Think about it. America is supposed to operate in accordance with the rule of law.
Yet 38 million people have been able to successfully cross our borders illegally? Each and every one of whom must be regarded as a potential terrorist since we know nothing about any of them?
All of this when our commander-in-chief insists that the nation is at war?
And our government refuses to enforce existing laws by deporting illegal aliens, and in fact, would like to grant each and every one amnesty!
Clearly, governance of America has fallen into the hands of brain dead elitists who do not give a damn about U.S. sovereignty, the rule of law, our Constitution, or preservation of American language and culture.
Those are the same political nit wits anxious to pass an amnesty plan that would reward 38 million criminals with the most prized possession on the planet: U.S. Citizenship.
Fact: If illegal aliens were a separate state, it would be the most populous state in the union!
Does it make any sense for America to sponsor a subculture comprised of 38 million third-world peasants, most of whom are uneducated, unskilled and non-English speaking?
A subculture that costs taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars each year for public services?
A subculture where many actually believe that Mexico still holds claim to the southwest United States, and that “gringos” should be forced out?
A subculture where the Mexican flag is more esteemed that Old Glory?
Consider how our illegal alien population compares with the population of some foreign nations*:
Canada: 34 million
Iraq: 27 million
Australia: 20 million
North Korea: 23 million
Israel: 6.5 million
Ireland: 4 million
Can America afford to take in human poverty nearly twice the population of Australia? Or nine times the population of Ireland?
More than the entire population of Canada?
And if we did something so foolish, how long before another 40 million illegal aliens would invade?
We the People must demand that our elected officials secure the borders immediately, with armed force if need be, and deport every last illegal alien as soon as possible.
If We the People fail to stop Barack Obama and his co-conspirators in the U.S. Congress, there will be no America to pass on to future generations.
With her activist ruling against SB 1070, Judge Susan Bolton has kept the illegal alien issue front and center and in the public consciousness just three months before the mid-term elections.
That may be very bad news for Democrats since the majority of Americans support SB 1070 and want something done about the millions of invaders that have ignored our borders and laws while costing taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars a year.
When it comes time to cast a ballot on November 2, we the people will remember:
Democrats in the U.S. House gave standing ovations to Mexican President Felipe Calderon as he assaulted the sovereign state of Arizona for protecting American citizens.
Democrat President Barack Obama took the side of illegal aliens and Mexico against American citizens when he chose to sue the state of Arizona over SB 1070.
Former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, appointed Susan Bolton to the judiciary which put her in a position to sabotage the will of the people in Arizona.
Democrat Party no longer cares about U.S. sovereignty, the rule of law, fundamental fairness, or defending American citizens from invading foreigner
In summary, the Democrat Party no longer cares about U.S. sovereignty, the rule of law, fundamental fairness, or defending American citizens from invading foreigners.
Truly, Democrats are the “Illegal alien” party.
Their allegiance is to those who can increase their numbers and improve their prospects for retaining power, rather than to the American people.
A word of caution to those who have openly sold out to invading criminals for future votes: We will remember on November 2!
SB 1070, Arizona’s citizen-friendly, illegal-alien hostile, bill has ruffled quite a few feathers, including those who occupy high places in government in Washington, D.C. After putting up with the nonsense from Washington for years, I have concluded that the U.S.should scrap SB 1070 as well as all of Obama’s foolish fantasies about immigration reform. We can do that and solve our illegal alien mess in one fell swoop by taking one simple step: Implement Mexico’s immigration laws in America!
Mexico, according to journalist and terrorist expert Dr. J. Michael Waller, has some of the strictest immigration laws of any country, and they enforce them to the letter.
Waller informs us that “Mexico has a radical idea for a rational immigration policy that most Americans would love. However, Mexican officials haven’t been sharing that idea with us as they press for the U.S. Congress to adopt the Marxist immigration reform bill.”
Waller adds: “That’s too bad, because Mexico, which annually deports more illegal aliens than the United States does, has much to teach us about how it handles the immigration issue.
Under Mexican law, it is a felony to be an illegal alien in Mexico.”
Waller sharpens his point by commenting on the unnerving tendency of some legal scholars in the U.S. to use foreign laws as a reference point for deciding issues in America.
Waller states, “At a time when the Supreme Court and many politicians seek to bring American law in line with foreign legal norms, it’s noteworthy that nobody has argued that the U.S. look at how Mexico deals with immigration and what it might teach us about how best to solve our illegal immigration problem.”
And whereas U.S. laws are often cumbersome, complex instruments fathomable only to lawyers who charge upwards of $300 an hour, things are more to the point in Mexican law.
Again, quoting Waller from the referenced link: “Mexico has a single, streamlined law that ensures that foreign visitors and immigrants are:
• In Mexico legally;
• Have the means to sustain themselves economically;
• Not destined to be burdens on society;
• Of economic and social benefit to society;
• Of good character and have no criminal records; and
• Contributors to the general well being of the nation.
“The law also ensures that:
• Authorities have a record of each foreign visitor;
• Foreign visitors do not violate their visa status;
• Foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country’s internal politics;
• Foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported;
• Foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported;
• Those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison.”
Who could disagree with such a law? It makes perfect sense,” Waller states with unassailable logic.
Unfortunately, very little “perfect sense” is obvious in the ongoing debate on immigration reform here in the United States. Rather, the interests of the American people are often ignored or made subordinate by politicians from both parties.
Barring a preliminary injunction by some warped leftist judge, Arizona’s SB 1070 will go into force next Thursday. If that blessed event comes to pass, the Grand Canyon state will become the nation’s leader in efforts to restore grace and honor to the rule of law, American sovereignty, common sense, and the U.S. Constitution, all of which have been vulgarly spat upon by Marxists now occupying Washington, D.C.
As reported by reuters.com, in part, illegal aliens are doing Arizona a huge favor by leaving the state early:
“Phoenix, July 25 (Reuters) – Nicaraguan mother Lorena Aguilar hawks a television set and a few clothes on the baking sidewalk outside her west Phoenix apartment block.
“A few paces up the street, her undocumented Mexican neighbor Wendi Villasenor touts a kitchen table, some chairs and a few dishes as her family scrambles to get out of Arizona ahead of a looming crackdown on illegal immigrants.
“Everyone is selling up the little they have and leaving,” said Villasenor, 31, who is headed for Pennsylvania. “We have no alternative. They have us cornered.”
“The law, the toughest imposed by any U.S. state to curb illegal immigration, seeks to drive more than 400,000 undocumented day laborers, landscapers, house cleaners, chambermaids and other workers out of Arizona, which borders Mexico.
“It makes being an illegal immigrant a state crime and requires state and local police, during lawful contact, to investigate the status of anyone they reasonably suspect of being an illegal immigrant.”
As could be expected, there are those who see nothing but racism and bigotry in SB 1070.
For example, one confused illegal alien was quoted as saying, ““They wanted to drive Hispanics out of Arizona and they have succeeded even before the law even comes into effect,” said one mother of three young children.
Sorry about the confusion mum, but SB 1070 is merely trying to combat the flow of invading criminals, those with no legal or moral basis for being here, from coming in violation of our borders and laws. It applies to all races.
It is similar to what Mexico does to invaders from south of its borders, except that illegal aliens in Arizona do not face kidnap, rape, and murder as is the case in Mexico!
Here is hoping that SB 1070 is allowed to become the law of the land in Arizona next Thursday and that lawmakers there can concentrate on ending the scourge known as “Anchor Babies,” another rip off of America by free loaders and scam artists from south of the U.S.
As the illegal alien population migrates back to Mexico, the invaders will cry Adios, and American citizens will respond with Gracias!
I know you haven’t forgotten the Newark schoolyard massacre perpetrated by the illegal alien MS-13 gang members. I blogged about the 1st conviction in the case in May. Click on that link for all the background reminders on how open borders and the deportation abyss aided and abetted the killers.
Yesterday, a judge sentenced illegal alien barbarian Rodolfo Godinez to more than 200 years in prison.
He’ll never get out.
But he should have never been in this country in the first place.
With the anguished words of the victims’ relatives providing a preamble, a Newark man convicted in the execution-style murders of three college-bound friends in a schoolyard was sentenced to more than 200 years in prison Thursday by a judge who said the killings were produced by “a mind diseased.”
Rodolfo Godinez, convicted in May on 17 counts including murder, felony murder, robbery and weapons offenses, was given three consecutive life sentences plus 20 years by state Superior Court Judge Michael Ravin, who followed the state’s sentencing request.
The 27-year-old Nicaraguan immigrant is one of six defendants in the case; the other five await separate trials.
Ravin called Godinez “a menace” and referred to the “monstrousness of what happened in a place where, by day, one would hear the laughter of children at play.”
Before Ravin pronounced sentence, a procession of family members spoke about victims Terrance Aeriel, Iofemi Hightower and Dashon Harvey. The last to speak was a woman who survived the attacks and in chilling testimony at Godinez’ trial described being sexually assaulted, slashed with a machete and shot in the head.
“Y’all left me for dead, but I’m still here and I just graduated (from college)” said the woman, who is not being identified by The Associated Press because of the sexual assault charges. Turning to Ravin, she asked, “Are you going to inform us when he dies? Because if you do, I think I’m going to have a party.”
Legal analyst Dan Recht said he believes the Jefferson County District Attorney is “seriously overcharging” a Wheat Ridge homeowner, accused of attempted first degree murder for shooting at two thieves.
82-year-old Robert Wallace said he fired two shots at two men when they tried to run him over while stealing his flatbed trailer.
Wallace now faces twelve felony counts, including four counts of attempted first degree murder, for what he described as an act of defending his property and his life. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
One of the thieves, Damacio Torres later admitted to the theft. He and his partner in crime, Alvara Cardano both have prior arrest records and are believed to be in the country illegally.
