How Obama is locking up our land, continued

by Michelle Malkin on Monday, August 16th, 2010

This is article 2 of 8 in the topic Federal Lands

Over the weekend, I spotlighted the White House “Great Outdoors Initiative” and the administration’s campaign for federal land grabs-through-executive fiat.

The Obama War on the West continues.

GOP Rep. Rob Bishop of Utah has released the complete Bureau of Lands Management memo outlining a stealth federal land lock-up plan covering an area the size of Colorado and Wyoming combined. Via the Colorado Farm Bureau:

Bishop’s office has release the entire BLM document titled “Treasured Landscapes” of which only pages were released a few months ago. It lays out what some consider a sweeping and detailed plan for changing the way the federal government manages land over the next 25 years.

The document lays out a sea change in the way the federal government manages land. It proposed that rather than manage individual plots of land, regardless of size, the government should consider managing entire “landscapes, ecosystems, airsheds and watersheds.”

The document also gives a not-so-subtle clue as to the size of the land area it seeks to “protect”.

“Of the 264 million acres under BLM management, some 130-140 million acres are worthy of consideration as treasured lands. These areas, roughly equivalent in size to Colorado and Wyoming combined, are valuable for their unspoiled beauty…”

It took Bishop months to get the document, which lays out the context for the snippets released a few months ago.

“They have clearly been dragging their feet, and they don’t want to let us know what they’re trying to do,” Bishop says.

He is especially concerned about portions of the document that recommend using the Antiquities Act “should the legislative process not prove fruitful.” The act gives the president power to designate a national monument with no public or legislative input.

BLM dismisses criticism of the document by characterizing it merely as “brainstorming.” It’s become the standard alibi for Obama officials caught planning radical changes through regulatory means outside the legislative process.

And remember those “listening sessions” I reported on over the weekend? As if you needed evidence they were stacked and biased in favor of the anti-jobs, anti-growth enviromental radicals, the Grand Junction Sentinel reports:

Listening sessions held across the country, such as one last month in Grand Junction that was attended by Forest Service Chief Thomas Tidwell and BLM Director Robert Abbey, are intended to allow Americans a say in the way those lands and others are managed, the statement said.

The Moffat County Commission, which opposes plans by the BLM to cordon off the Vermillion Basin from natural gas drilling, wasn’t invited to the Grand Junction listening session, “So there you go,” Commissioner Audrey Danner said.

The agency’s description of the Vermillion Basin notes its whitewater river as one of the attributes that makes it worthy of more conservation-oriented management, and that is “absolutely incorrect,” Danner said.

If We Give In and Allow the NY Mosque Then We Are the Loonies

by Jerry McConnell on Thursday, August 12th, 2010

This is article 95 of 804 in the topic Terrorism

Although the website “” which is an excuser and alibi’er for Muslims freely denigrates the author named Tawfik Hamid who wrote a column in on August 4, 2010 titled, “Challenge to Ground Zero Mosque Leaders: Answer 3 Questions” there is much common sense in what he writes.

For starters, I will tell you that Mr. Hamid advises his readers that he is an “ex-Muslim”, which gives you the first clue as to why the “Loon Watch”ers have no great love for him.  Obviously according to them, if you don’t believe that 99.6 percent of Muslims are truly peace-loving and gentle souls just trying to get along in this world, then you will probably believe Mr. Hamid.

I am in that last category, believing that it may be possible that the other end of the equation Loon Watch’ers state: four tenths of one percent of Muslims are peace-loving and gentle souls. Let’s face it; there MUST be a handful or so that would rather not kill than eat.  Their holy book calls for killings in a dutiful way even for such a small event as an infidel (a non-believer of Islam) being not willing to convert to Islam.

Assuming that Muslims are eager to build so many mosques, even in areas where they are not wanted by a majority of others, only because of the exceedingly high number of believers in their holy book, tells me that the upper percentage (99.6%) are willing to kill rather than co-exist; supporting my theory of four-tenths of one percent as peaceful.

Anyhow, getting back to Mr. Hamid, in the article referenced above, he calls for some quality and soul-searching questions to be asked of those Muslims who are on an almost jihadic-like crusade to place an enormous mosque in the ethereal shadows of the former World Trade Center buildings that were decimated by Muslims on 9/11/2001.  A project that most Americans consider to be, as states, “blasphemous” or “irreverent behavior toward anything held sacred”, and that is what the families of the nearly 3000 who died there and many more Americans feel.

In view of the growing sentiment of New York Mayor Bloomberg and journalist Thomas Friedman plus others that allowing the mosque to be built would be proof of American tolerance having a positive impact on the Muslim world, Mr. Hamid would first “ask mosque leaders to request that Saudi Arabian leaders reciprocally allow churches and synagogues to be built in their country.”.

I think that is a superb inquiry to make, both of the mosque leaders and the Saudi Arabian leaders.  A resounding reply of ‘Not NO, but HELL NO!” in Arabic would come thundering across the sandy deserts.  It has been my understanding that Muslims are very much like American liberal Democrats in that reciprocity means the same as bipartisanship, or “Do it my way.”

No wonder why liberals and Muslims get along so well.

Obama Cap and Trade Will Provide Tax Dollars for Oil Spill Plus Some Cream Off the Top

by Jerry McConnell on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

This is article 18 of 37 in the topic Oil Spill

The gigantic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has people all over the country wringing their hands and asking, “How will we ever pay for all this clean up?”  And I’m sure most of them have heard Obama’s slithering Chief of Stash, Rahm Emmanuel, saying “A crisis should never be wasted.”

Therein lays the scenario which will surely do three things;

First: Provide a reason for approving legislation that is tailored to create enormous tax increases for ALL Americans, with the alibi that the money will be needed to clean up the mess and restore the lands affected negatively by the oil spill.

Second: Those excessive and elephantine sized tax increases will provide such a plethora of money that through the usual Obama chicanery and falsehoods, gigantic amounts can and will be skimmed off the top and used to steal the elections in November 2010; possibly even into the 2012 presidential elections.

Third: Obama in his sincere gratitude to the sleaziness and unconscionable guiles of Emmanuel will send him off with a bonus worthy of a Shah’s ransom.

The only real benefits in all this is that the Gulf Coast states and their residents may get a land restoration package to some small degree and we the people will get rid of Rahm Emmanuel cancer in government.

The bad part of course is that we will be saddled with the lies, deceit and deceptions of the Obama Administration will be with us for an additional four years; plenty of time for him to rig the workings for a lifetime self-appointment as Dictator in Chief.

Speaking of lies and deceptions, AmeriPAC the American Political Action Committee released an internet message on June 21, 2010 giving us a warning along these lines calling it, “Obama’s GulfCare Plan:  Tax-Tax-Tax”, saying that his “oil spill disaster plan: (is to) Impose New Energy Taxes on every American without a purpose… (and) create the largest tax increase in U.S. history.”  AmeriPAC opined that the liberal Dems would use “the same emergency, closed door guerilla legislation tactics (used) to pass ObamaCare.

Much public speculation and comment has been widely reported over the Internet of the possibility of the entire event being a planned or contrived disaster.  From the lackluster and lackadaisical response in the beginning to the very slow and near reluctance with which Obama and his Administration did begin to acknowledge the seriousness of the situation, such guessing was to be expected.

The gravity of the potential for destruction didn’t seem to dwell on the golf-playing, graduation exercise speeches that were carried out as if the happenings in the Gulf were minor in nature.  He was almost nonchalant when playing his fiddle while the Gulf of Mexico was literally burning.

But this cat and mouse behavior was very possibly attributable to Emmanuel’s insistence to allow events to come to a head from which incentives could be ignited to take advantage and get a sympathetic approval of the public to pass the Cap and Trade legislation floundering in the Congress.
