Sen. Markey to introduce gun law proposal in effort to avoid ACA

by Jim Kouri on Monday, February 24th, 2014

This is article 513 of 558 in the topic Gun Rights

What his political opponents characterize as an obvious ploy to avoid the Obamacare debate in November’s election cycle, on Thursday, Massachusetts’ ultra-liberal Democrat, Sen. Ed Markey, announced his intention to introduce legislation that is sure to create divisiveness among the voters. The veteran politician said he will propose a new law that would require gun manufacturers to “install” an owner-recognition system in each firearm manufactured in the United States, according to his “Markey for U.S. Senate” website.

Next week, Markey is set to propose “The Handgun Trigger Safety Act of 2014,” a law that will mandate technology that would make a handgun inoperable if someone apart from an authorized user attempts to fire it.

“What any clear-thinking American will see here is an attempt by Markey to avoid facing a defeat because of his gung-ho attitude towards Obamacare in 2010. He’s another Democrat who echoed the lies told to get support for the Affordable Care Act law,” said political strategist Mike Baker.

The so-called Handgun Trigger Safety Act will stipulate that within two years of it being signed into law by President Barack Obama, all handguns manufactured or sold in the U.S. must be “fitted” exclusively to the legal owner of that handgun, according to Markey’s web site.

Markey claims that making certain only authorized users can fire the weapon will reduce use of stolen guns or accidental shootings by the owner’s children.

Markey’s proposed law would mandate that by the third year after its enactment, anyone — gun shop owners, gun collectors, gun show participants, etc. — who sell handguns to customers must install personal identification technology before the weapon can be turned over to the buyer, according to his campaign staff.

The Handgun Trigger Safety Act stipulates, according to Markey, that the costs for program will be paid by a Department of Justice fund.

Markey’s law would also offer funds from the Justice Department to created incentives for the development of improved handgun safety technology. The law and its costs will be funded through a surcharge on all firearms purchases.

“Markey won the June special election to finish out the term of former U.S. Sen. John Kerry. He defeated businessman and retired Navy Seal Gabriel Gomez, 55 percent to 45 percent. Markey must now run for a full term in November of 2014. It is possible that either former GOP U.S. Sen. Scott Brown or former Navy SEAL Gomez will toss their hats into the ring,” according to Cook Political Report.

Massachusetts Crime Lab Scandal Reveals Drug War Corruption

Massachusetts Crime Lab Scandal Reveals Drug War Corruption

PHOTOS.COM

There is big money in the drug war for Federal agencies and State and local police forces.

I have told you before that the so-called war on drugs is a sham and a scam, and it corrupts Federal agencies and all police forces. American prisons and cemeteries are overflowing with victims of the faux drug war.

There are more than 2.4 million people in U.S. prisons. That’s more than one out of every 100 Americans, and that number has more than quadrupled since 1980. The most serious charge against 51 percent of those in Federal prisons is a drug offense. In State prisons, one in five prisoners is being incarcerated over a drug offense.

There is now a breaking scandal in Massachusetts that reveals how corrupt the war on drugs actually is. Annie Dookhan, a chemist with the Massachusetts crime lab, has been caught conspiring with prosecutors in that State to falsify drug evidence by tampering with samples and intentionally forging signatures. As many as 40,000 cases may have had their evidence tainted by Dookhan.

Dookhan, who recently pleaded guilty to all 27 counts of altering drug evidence and obstructing justice that prosecutors had filed against her, was a crime lab chemist for nine years. Her tampered evidence has put thousands of innocent people behind bars, and thousands more have had their sentences lengthened based on her fake “evidence.”

The Boston Globe published emails that demonstrated the cozy relationship Dookhan had with prosecutors. In one exchange with Norfolk Assistant District Attorney George Papachristos (who resigned in October after the Globe disclosed his flirtatious friendship with Dookhan), the chemist apparently was more than willing to acquiesce to the prosecutor’s request to inflate the size of a marijuana sample so that its owners could be charged with trafficking. The emails also show Dookhan was prone to fabrications, repeatedly making up grandiose job titles for herself, such as “special agent of operations” for the FBI and other Federal agencies.

Following Dookhan’s guilty plea, a second Massachusetts crime lab “chemist” has been fired after investigators determined she had fabricated her educational credentials. Kate Corbett worked alongside Dookhan and testified as a “chemistry expert” in dozens of court cases that led to convictions — even though her degree is in sociology. Defense attorneys argue that as many 180,000 Massachusetts drug cases may be tainted by the two women’s actions.

“I screwed up big time. I messed up. I messed up bad. It’s my fault. I don’t want the lab to get in trouble,” Dookhan was reported as saying. Her “screwup” resulted in prosecutors and drug cops getting promotions and glowing headlines for drug convictions and their agencies getting an increasing pile of tax dollars while their wrongly convicted victims lost their families, their livelihoods and years of their lives.

And for that Dookhan is facing just three to five years in the pen while Papachristos has been cleared of any wrongdoing. The elected class are not interested in justice, and they always protect their own.

The Weaver’s Shuttle – Why Atheist’s are Attempting to Change the Laws

by Rev. Michael Bresciani on Friday, September 6th, 2013

This is article 2 of 2 in the topic Pledge of Allegiance

tn_weavers_shuttle.pngThis week, the justices of the Massachusetts Supreme Court are examining the atheists challenge against “one nation under God” in the pledge of allegiance. They will be trying to determine if that phrase violates the equal rights amendment of the state’s constitution.

We can only wonder if the atheists have nothing better to do with their time and money than to hire attorneys to question the pledge, since no student is forced to recite the pledge. It is totally voluntary.

Federal courts have previously ruled that the pledge does not violate anyone’s constitutional rights but the atheists keep raising this and similar issues across the land. In the spirit of antichrist the attacks bring to mind the warning of the prophet Daniel, who in describing the relentless godless pursuits of the final antichrist said he would try to ‘wear out’ the church and the body of believers by changing the law.

“And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” (Dan 7: 25)

Don’t look now, but it has already begun.

It is not a Debate – It is Warfare

Disputes about the rapture (catching away of the believers) may persist, but a casual glance at world events, politics and international unrest should be enough to make any student of prophecy stand to attention. Oddly, for the apostate church, bent on keeping the peace and complying to the status quo, this is not what is happening.

End timers are charged with panicking and discouraging the sweet flow of love and tolerance the church is ‘supposed’ to be spreading around the world. The idea of the church dumping sweet honey on a crumbling world is not derived from the Bible and it is contrary to scripture on several levels.

According to scripture God will send last days workers of every kind to warn, rebuke, exhort and admonish the world for its willful decline into reprobation. The cotton candy gospel is an abomination to God and it is irresponsibility of the highest kind in a time when time is about to run out.

Jesus told us to love our neighbor and our enemy, but he was far from naïve. He knew that by doing so, the effect would be as Paul described, “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.” (Ro 12: 20) The one who called for such love is also known for saying this, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” (Mt 10: 34)

The call to war, to resist and to fight against demonically driven antichristian acts, whether done by atheists, Hollywood minions, liberal lawmakers or Godless educators is clear in words and phrases like this, “Fight the good fight…” (1Tim 6: 12) and “Put on the whole armour of God” (Eph 6: 11) what believer who takes his faith seriously has not pondered Paul’s admonishment to his young disciple Timothy?  “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” (2Tim 2: 3)

Militant terms like these are what were in the thinking of Cambridge educated lyricist, Sabine Baring-Gould, who mastered six languages and wrote over one hundred books as he penned the immortal words found in the much beloved Christian hymn ‘Onward Christian Soldiers.’

In a time when organizations like the ACLU and others are trotting from state to state trying to block, banish and remove all kinds of Christian crosses, the real church should be raising the cross as its noble and everlasting banner.

Hey GOP: how’d that Gomez running as a Democrat-lite thing work for ya’?

by Lloyd Marcus on Saturday, June 29th, 2013

This is article 71 of 94 in the topic Republican Party

RINO Republican Gabriel Gomez lost to Democrat Ed Markey in the special election to fill the Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry. I say, “Thank God.” We can not allow Democrat-Lite RINO Republicans like Gomez to define the GOP.

However, I have little hope that the stuck on fear, panic and stupid GOP will “get it.” Despite wasting tons of money backing Gomez who agrees with 90% of the Democrat agenda, he still lost. And yet, I guarantee the GOP will interpret the loss as evidence that our party needs to move further to the left.

Why should liberal Massachusetts voters select a Democrat-Lite Gomez over a full-bodied Democrat, Ed Markey? Moderate Republicans thought six one, half dozen of the other and stayed home. Conservative Republicans, rightly so, could not bring themselves to vote for Gomez who promised not to oppose Obama’s agenda.

Extremely low voter turnout confirmed that Massachusetts voters, for the most part, did not care. Had there been a true Conservative in the race like Mike Sullivan, at least voters would have had a clear choice, giving the race a little passion, interest and drama.

Folks, I fully realize that sometimes it is wise to hold your nose and vote for the lesser of two evils. We live in an imperfect world with imperfect human beings. Rarely, if ever, will a candidate embody all the qualities and stand for all the issues and values you hold dear.

Having said that, Gabriel Gomez was a horrible ideologically soulless candidate. Gomez just wanted to be elected; willing to play on either team necessary to land him in political office. Disgusting.

Gomez supported the Gang of Eight Bill, Gun Control, abortion and more. Gomez dis conservatives. To win the primary at any and all cost, Gomez attempted to smear Conservative Campaign Committee whose mission is to hoist conservative candidates to victory across America.

My heart aches for conservative candidates who paint as Reagan advised in bold colors rather than pale pastels. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OznoFCZdS8

We need candidates who can articulate that conservatism equals true compassion and is beneficial to all Americans. Our candidates must not pander to Democratic party socialist/progressive ideas. Quite the opposite. Our candidates must sound the alarm educating voters to the folly of the Democrat’s belief that government is god, can fix everything and can legislate equal outcomes. These foolish Democratic party utopian ideas are destroying lives, weakening, undermining and destroying the greatest nation on the planet.

We need conservative candidates with backbone who proudly stand up for what they believe; candidates who say what they mean and mean what they say. Wow, what a concept. Mr RINO Republican Gomez, I am elated and grateful that you lost.

Ed Markey wins special election; Massachusetts will finally have a liberal in the US Senate

by Doug Powers on Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

This is article 37 of 43 in the topic Election Results

In Massachusetts, über liberal Ed Markey will now be known as Elizabeth Warren’s more conservative counterpart in the U.S. Senate:

Democrat Rep. Ed Markey is the winner of the Massachusetts special election to fill the Senate seat vacated when John Kerry became secretary of state, defeating businessmen and former Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez.

Markey was leading 55 percent to 45 percent with 99 percent of precincts reporting, according to The Associated Press.

Markey told his cheering supporters he will “seek consensus wherever possible. Like you, I am tired of gridlock. But I will never compromise on our principles.”

“I am going to the U.S. Senate to build a bold and bright future filled with optimism and opportunity for every family in the state of Massachusetts and across our great country,” Markey said in his victory speech.

The vote count, in terms Democrat Ed Markey understands, wasn’t math, just arithmetic.

From First Read:

The win is an important one for Democrats who avoided a potential embarrassment and now retain a 54-46 margin in the Senate, with a chance to gain back one more seat in an October special election in New Jersey.

If we include half of the “Gang of Eight,” the Democrat margin in the Senate is even wider than that.

TODASHEVAN SHOOTING: ANOTHER OBAMA COVER-UP? ANOTHER 9/11 ANNIVERSARY ATTACK ON JEWS? ANOTHER “ON-GOING INVESTIGATION?”

by Stephen Levine on Friday, May 31st, 2013

This is article 556 of 783 in the topic Terrorism

What the hell is going on within the Obama Administration and their handling of terrorist-connected activities?

The original incident – triple killing, throats cut, anniversary of 9/11 …

A triple homicide was committed in Waltham, Massachusetts, on the evening of September 11, 2011.  Brendan Mess, Erik Weissman, and Raphael Teken were murdered in Mess’s apartment. All had their throats slit from ear to ear, with such great force that they were nearly decapitated. Thousands of dollars of marijuana and money were left covering their mutilated bodies, and $5,000 was left at the scene. The local district attorney said that it appeared that the killer and the victims knew each other, and that the murders were not random.

All three victims were Jewish according to a number of sources.Weissman was outspoken about his Jewish faith, and an active member of his synagogue. Teken had majored in history at predominantly Jewish Brandeis University; he was buried in Israel.

Autopsies revealed that the men had been brutally murdered. Their heads had been pulled back, and their throats had been slit from ear-to-ear with either an ice pick or knife with such great force that they were nearly decapitated. Their mutilated bodies had been left covered with thousands of dollars worth of marijuana (seven pounds of marijuana; in what investigators described as a symbolic gesture) and thousands of dollars of money, in three different rooms. Police said $5,000 was left at the scene, which suggested that robbery was not the motive. <Source>

Then comes multiple interviews with Ibragim Todashevan, an acquaintance of the older Boston Marathon Bomber, Tamerlan Tsarnaev. The last interview ending in the suspicious death of the interviewee in the presence of the FBI and Massachusetts State Troopers.

The first shooting report – shot reaching for FBI agent’s gun or reached for a knife …

A Chechen man linked to one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects was fatally shot early Wednesday in an unusual encounter with the FBI and other law enforcement officers in his apartment in Orlando.

According to federal law enforcement officials, the man was being interviewed about whether he and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the bombing suspect, were connected to a two-year-old triple slaying when he attacked an FBI agent. There were conflicting accounts of what happened in the moments before the man was shot.

One federal law enforcement official said the man, a professional martial-arts fighter, was shot after trying to grab the FBI agent’s gun. Two other officials said the man reached for a knife and was shot as he attacked the agent. All three officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because the episode is under official review.

The man was identified as Ibragim Todashev, 27, a former Boston area resident who knew Tsarnaev from martial-arts and boxing circles. Todashev had recently moved to Orlando from Cambridge, Mass.

Law enforcement officials said Todashev was not a suspect in the bombing. They said he was being interviewed about his possible role in a triple slaying in Waltham, Mass., in September 2011.

Restoring America: one political race, one conservative candidate at a time

by Lloyd Marcus on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013

This is article 339 of 370 in the topic Elections

Upon our brief return to our home in Florida, Sammy, our greyhound gave me a ho-hum look and retired to his doggie-bed; not the excited welcome home I expected after being away for over a month. I fear the house-sitter has stolen the affection of my dog.

Mary and I have been in Massachusetts feverishly working to make Conservative Michael Sullivan the Republican nominee in the Massachusetts special election to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by John Kerry.

Many of you may wonder why my Conservative Campaign Committee has been working so diligently on the Massachusetts Senate race. What makes flipping the Massachusetts traditionally Democrat seat to a Republican seat of such national importance? Well, it could start a ripple effect in the political landscape.

Folks, in case you have not noticed, we are losing America to the socialists/progressives. Obama is like a political Dr. Frankenstein who has created his lifelong dream, a socialist/progressive monster. With his eyes bulging with excitement, Obama yells with elation, It’s alive! It’s alive!

Facing little to no opposition from terrified Republicans, Obama’s socialist/progressive monster is wrecking havoc making all of the Left’s cultural and societal dreams come true; the redefinition of marriage, government control of your children, suppression of Christianity, disarming the American people, open borders and amnesty for illegals, a majority of the population on government assistance and most devastating of all, government having total control of our behavior – deciding who lives and who dies via Obamacare.

For those of you who think I am crazy or exaggerating, I offer a few current events.

Attorney General Eric Holder declared, “amnesty is a civil right.” Holder promises government will work to protect illegal aliens. http://www.wnd.com/2013/04/holder-amnesty-is-a-civil-right/

We have been told 11 million – but the reality is the new immigration bill will bring in 33 million new immigrants over the next 10 years. Rest assured, 25 million will vote Democrat for the freebies and have no desire to assimilate; thus, marking the end of the Republican Party. http://dailycaller.com/2013/04/26/anti-immigration-group-immigration-bill-to-bring-in-at-least-33-million-people/

In keeping with the Obama administration’s continuing assault on business, Harry Reid is consumed with rushing through an internet sales tax. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/election/2013/04/25/reid-tries-to-bring-internet-sales-tax-bill-to-final-vote/

Did you ever believe a day would come in America when government would force your daughter to indulge in lesbianism? A government run school curriculum forces middle school girls to stand in front of the class and kiss pretending they are lesbians. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2013/04/outrage-alert-child-abuse-in-the-govt-run-school-curriculum-children-forced-to-kiss-same-gender-in-simulated-homosexuality-video/

Exposed during the Dr Gosnell trial is the practice of “snipping” which is sticking scissors into the back of the baby’s neck and cutting the spinal cord. Snipping is done to kill those annoying babies with such a will to live that they survive the abortion undermining the abortionist. The shocking and horrific abuses of the poor and minority women revealed in the Dr Gosnell trial has drawn not one word of criticism from Planned Parenthood. Meanwhile, Obama is the first sitting U.S. president to address/speak at a gala for Planned Parenthood which is essentially an abortion factory – especially of minority babies. Obama went as far as to demonize anyone opposing abortion. Planned Parenthood aborts 4000 babies a day folks – 4000 babies a day.

Telethon for Michael Sullivan to bolster conservative ascendancy

by Lloyd Marcus on Friday, April 12th, 2013

This is article 18 of 26 in the topic Conservatives

Brother and sister patriots, I speak to you as family because I believe if we are to effectively push back in opposition to Obama and company’s all-out-assault on our freedoms, liberty and culture, we (who love America as founded) must stand together as family.

In a nut shell, Obama and Democrats/Progressives are out of control. On every issue from the environment to gun control they use the same tactic. Obama hits the airways and makes a totally mindless emotional pleas to low info voters. Arrogantly, Obama then expects to be given carte blanche to trample the Constitution at will.

Always having Obama, Democrats and progressives backs, the mainstream media faithfully provides cover for their blatant side stepping of the Constitution. The MSM brands Republicans and anyone who dares to stand up for common sense and the law as being racist, stupid and haters. It works every time. Republicans cave.

Sadly, only a few Republicans have the stones to stand up for common sense and the Constitution. Even the ever optimistic Rush Limbaugh said he is depressed over what is happening in our country.

While my hope for America is rooted in my faith and trust in God, I realize it is up to each of us to do our part. To restore our great nation, we must get rock solid conservatives in office – one candidate – one race at a time. This is why my Conservative Campaign Committee has produced TV and radio ads in support of “proven” and “tested” Conservative Michael Sullivan for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts.

Sullivan’s opponents in the primary, Gomez and Winslow, are prime examples of Obama/Democrat sycophant Republicans who are willing to sell their souls for a seat at the table. Electing either of them would further the decline of America as we know it.

Candidate Gabriel Gomez wrote a letter to Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick asking for a job – interim appointment as U.S. Senator. In Gomez’s letter, he said he supports Obama’s agenda. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=JwoNP-THBPo

Candidate Dan Winslow said, “Pro-life candidates deserve to lose.” Folks, 4000 babies a day are aborted in America. Michael Sullivan is pro-life. http://www.redmassgroup.com/diary/16680/prolife-candidates-deserve-to-lose-says-republican-candidate-rep-dan-winslow

Winslow routinely financially supports Democrats: $500 to Democrat Robert Travaglini’s State Senate campaign – $300 to Democrats Steven Baddour and Joseph Wagner – $250 to Democrats Gerard Leone and John Rogers – $200 to Democrat Sonia Chang-Diaz – $500 to Democrat Martha Coakley. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtNo9WYSonQ

With behavior uncharacteristic of Republicans and more in keeping with the No-Tactic-Is-Too-Low Democrat Play Book, Gomez and Winslow conjured up a weak tag-team attempt to smear Conservative Campaign Committee as a hate group. Think about that folks. CCC is committed to getting Conservatives/Republicans elected around the country. And yet, “Republicans,” Gomez and Winslow are selfishly trying to destroy us – both willing to bend the truth and undermine future conservative/Republican candidates to win at ANY cost. Character matters folks, it always does.

Patriots, we at CCC did not pull Michael Sullivan’s name out of a hat. We researched the man and spoke with Massachusetts voters. Amazingly, the same words kept coming up in almost every conversation about Mike – “proven,” “tested” and “trustworthy.”

Beginning at Gillette as a stock clerk, Mike Sullivan worked his way up to U.S. Attorney prosecuting the infamous shoe-bomber.

Massachusetts senators demand Gov. Patrick comply with REAL ID

by Jim Kouri on Friday, March 8th, 2013

This is article 147 of 188 in the topic Government Regulations

Lawmakers from the Massachusetts State Senate submitted a letter to Gov. Deval Patrick on Wednesday, demanding the state government’s full compliance with the federal REAL ID Act, according to Maria Sliwa, spokeswoman for a public-interest group and sister of Guardian Angels founder and talk show host Curtis Sliwa.

The senators’ action follows the filing of a Public Records Request with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) by the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License (CSDL) regarding that state’s low level of compliance with the federal identification regulations.

Enacted in 2005 during the Bush Administration, the REAL ID Act requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to establish standards for state issued driver’s licenses that would be used for “official purposes,” such as boarding a commercial airplane, obtaining a U.S. passport, and other activities requiring the verification of identity.

The Act was based on a recommendation by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks upon the United States, a/k/a the 9/11 Commission, which stated that, “[T]he federal government should set standards for the issuance of birth certificates and sources of identification, such as driver’s licenses.” DHS published the REAL ID standards in January 2008.

State Senators Robert Hedlund, Michael Knapik, Bruce Tarr, and Richard Ross urged “immediate action” to remedy their concern that falling behind on compliance with the law has made “Massachusetts a magnet state for criminals and others seeking to fraudulently obtain driver’s licenses under assumed or fictitious identities,” according to Maria Sliwa.

In addition, the Republican Senators noted their concern that Massachusetts will be “one of few states whose permissive driver’s license practices may bar residents from boarding airplanes.”

As a result of the passage of the REAL ID Act, most of the U.S. states’ governments have made significant progress toward securing their jurisdictions’ identification documents. A progress report released by DHS in August 2012 revealed that, “all states meet or commit to meet 83 percent of the material compliance benchmarks, which DHS believes may understate state progress.”

However, according to documents received through the Public Records Request by the non-governmental organization (NGO) CSDL, Massachusetts hasn’t made much progress in complying since 2009.

Although Congress passed the REAL ID program in 2005, the implementation of the full program has been delayed several times due to state opposition. While some states, such as North Carolina and Georgia, have supported the program, many states are opposed. According to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), 25 states have passed resolutions rejecting REAL ID and it is illegal to comply with the law in 15 states.

DHS officials have noted that so far 19 states are currently compliant with the REAL ID Act. While all states have received a “temporary deferment,” DHS plans to announce enforcement of the REAL ID Act in the fall of 2013.

Brian Zimmer, President of CSDL stated, “Senator Tarr and his colleagues are right to be concerned. MassDOT is gambling with long odds that DHS will do nothing. Meanwhile, as more and more states move forward with compliance, Massachusetts will be left further and further behind.”

Rachel Kaprielian, the Massachusetts Registrar of Motor Vehicles, was also copied on the letter, according to Ms. Sliwa, who is a former New York City Police officer and adjunct faculty member at the Columbia School of Journalism. www.journalism.columbia.edu/profile/389-maria-sliwa/164

Massachusetts’ murder rate has risen much faster than that of its neighbors or the US rate since the 1998 firearms licensing bill

by John Lott on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

This is article 377 of 558 in the topic Gun Rights
From the Boston Globe:

Massachusetts has a national reputation as a bastion of gun control, but crimes and injuries related to firearms have risen — sometimes dramatically — since the state passed a comprehensive package of gun laws in 1998.

Murders committed with firearms have increased significantly, aggravated assaults and robberies involving guns have risen, and gunshot injuries are up, according to FBI and state data.

To gun-rights groups like the National Rifle Association, these statistics are evidence that gun control does not work. But to gun-control advocates, the numbers show that no state — no matter how tough the laws — is protected from firearms violence when guns are brought in from other states.

“The quality of your gun-licensing laws is only as good as those surrounding you,” said James Alan Fox, a Northeastern University criminologist. . . .

In 2011, Massachusetts recorded 122 murders committed with firearms, a striking increase from the 65 in 1998, said Fox, the Northeastern professor. Nationwide, such murders increased only 3 percent from 1999 to 2010, the CDC says.

There were increases in other crimes involving guns in Massachusetts, too. From 1998 to 2011, aggravated assaults with guns rose 26.7 percent. Robberies with firearms increased 20.7 percent during that period, according to an FBI analysis conducted for the Globe. . . . .

The number of registered guns in Massachusetts dropped by 86% — from 1,541,201 prior to the 1998 law to just over 215,000.

It is hard to see how to see how the presence of these other states could cause Massachusetts’ murder rate to rise.  Those states were there before the 1998 law and criminals could obtain their guns before the law.  It is easy to see how the spillover might keep the crime rates from falling, but if the law helped at all, Massachusetts’ murder rate should have fallen relative to the rate in the rest of the US as well as the states that are Massachusetts’ neighbors.
