Friday Afternoon Roundup – This is what Revolution Looks Like

by Daniel Greenfield on Friday, July 4th, 2014

A crowd of 200 to 300 people in downtown Murrieta surrounded three Homeland Security buses carrying illegal alien detainees waving large American flags and holding signs that opposed higher taxes and “new illegals” — waited in the hot sun all day for the three charter buses to arrive.

Waving Americans flags and protest signs, the crowd refused to give way when the buses arrived with some 140 detainees from Texas, which has seen a flood of Central American illegal aliens cross the border.

Protesters chanted “USA!” “Impeach Obama!” and “Deport, Deport!”

Anti-Amnesty Protesters Force Buses Full of Obama’s Illegal Aliens to Turn Back

The Murrieta protest strongly reminded me of what the Tea Party used to do when it came to ObamaCare. A small number of ordinary people used social media to get the word out and organize protests.

The media denounced them. The politicians denounced them. But in the end they helped turned the tide of public opinion.

The situation is similar to, but also worse than ObamaCare, because there is no establishment opposition at all. The only real opposition is coming from ordinary people who are fed up.

Are the Anti-Illegal Amnesty Protests the New Tea Party?

Machete was the incredibly violent and racist movie whose trailer was released with “a special Cinco de Mayo message for Arizona.” It ends with illegal aliens massacring the fictional version of the Minutemen.

“Machete” …. is a call for revolution; Mexicans against Americans – and in the words of the character meant to be our evolving conscience, Jessica Alba’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Sartana, it’s about how those who believe in only LEGAL immigration “deserve to be cut down.”

The ICE document specified that Murrieta would be the end point for “processing” the individuals, noting that they “may be released with instructions to report to a local ICE office near their destination address within 15 days.”

After processing, immigrants are released into the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who will assist them in reaching family members in the United States before their appearance in an immigration court, according to David Jennings, field director for ICE’s Los Angeles field office.

“A large majority of these people were going somewhere. When they left Honduras, for example, they had a destination,” Jennings said. “We are going to take these people and get them there. We are going to get them to a Greyhound station and get them where they need to go.”

When the World Goes Crazy it First Kills Jews

by Alan Caruba on Tuesday, July 1st, 2014

This is article 37 of 37 in the topic Jews/Jewish

Consider this, if there had been a state of Israel in the 1930s, many more European Jews would have been able to escape the fate that consumed six million of them during the Nazi Holocaust during World War II.

That there is an Israel today explains when French and Ukrainian Jews are leaving their native countries and making Israel their new home. In mid-June, the Associated Press reported that “Increasing numbers of French Jews are leaving for Israel, citing dim economic prospects and a sense of being caught between an increasingly influential far right and militant Islam. More than 5,000 are on track to leave this year, the most since after the Six-Day War in 1967.”

The chairman of the Jewish Agency, Natan Sharanky, speaking recently, noted that immigration to Israel from around the world had increased by 55%, with particular emphasis on those from France and Ukraine. The Jewish newswire service, Ynet, reported that “Never before has such a large proportion of a Western community made aliyah (return) in a single year.”

If you were a French or Ukrainian Jew, you’d do the same thing if you could. In May, Three Jews, two of whom were Israelis, were murdered and one was wounded at the Jewish Museum in Brussels, Belgium. The suspect, profiled by French police, was a convict radicalized in prison and suspected of having joined Islamists in Syria to fight alongside them. A “disturbing reality” reported The Wall Street Journal is that “hundreds of Europeans have similar backgrounds.”

Seeing the increase, Israel is planning to dedicate $29 million over the next two years to bring in new immigrants.

I don’t see any difference between the Nazis of the 1930s and the Islamists of these years. The Nazis received a lot of support from the Arabs of their era. As for Islam, the Koran is filled with admonitions against Jews in particular and every other “infidel” in general. While there have been periods of tolerance for Jews over the past 1,400 years, the animus towards them has never been reduced and, in present times, we have seen a massive rejection of Christians as well. When Israel became a state in 1948, thousands of Jews from throughout the Middle East fled for their lives to settle there.

What history confirms is that a rise of anti-Semitism has been a signal of greater, wider troubles to come.

The Jewish Virtual Library, in its section on Zionism—the belief that Jews should have a nation-state of their own—notes that “In the late 19th century, the rise of anti-Semitism led to a resurgence of pogroms in Russia and Eastern Europe, shattering promises of equality and tolerance. This stimulated Jewish immigration to Palestine from Europe.”

Moreover, Zionism does not discriminate against anyone. Israel’s open and democratic character, and its scrupulous protection of the religious and political rights of Christians and Muslims, rebut the charge of exclusivity. Moreover, anyone—Jew or non-Jew, Israeli, American, or Chinese, black, white, or purple—can be a Zionist.”

The rise of Islamism has given rise to much turmoil in the Middle East and in Africa. Nigeria is plagued by Boko Haram, an Islamist terrorist organization that is kidnapping girls and attacking Christian churches.

Israel Will Go to War as Islamic Fascism Spreads

by Alan Caruba on Monday, June 16th, 2014

This is article 1192 of 1198 in the topic International

Scenes like this ISIS execution remind Israelis of the Nazi genocide

The Israelis are ready to go to war even if the United States is not.

The news out of the Middle East reflects how President Obama’s policies have led to an Islamic terrorist takeover of huge swaths of Syria and Iraq. No nation watches these events more closely than Israel. On June 6 the chief of the Israeli Defense Forces, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz cryptically remarked that the IDF is gearing up to address the growing numbers of terrorist forces on its border with Syria. He noted Iraq as well for good measure.

When Israel is in the news, it is usually because it is under attack or responding to one. The only other times have been news of “peace talks” between it and the Palestinian Authority (PA), but none of those talks over decades has ever achieved peace because, as the diplomatic community knows, the Palestinians do not want it.

Most recently, the PA announced “unity” with Hamas, a Palestinian organization that all nations identify as terrorist. As Efraim Inbar, the director of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies and a fellow of the Middle East Forum, recently noted, “As long as the military branch of Hamas remains independent, there is no Palestinian unity.”

Why the PA would engage in this charade is known only to them. There are no advantages in it because they do not gain any presence in the Gaza Strip, the home to Hamas. As far as the U.S. and Europe are concerned, says Inbar, “the establishment of a real, stable Palestinian state (is) more unlikely than ever.” Hamas has already asserted itself by kidnapping three teenagers, one of whom is an American

Though most U.S. taxpayers are likely unaware of it, the U.S. gives an estimated $440 million in aid to the PA every year. They are not likely to be pleased now that the PA has entered into some form of unity with Hamas. Official State Department statements referred to something they called “an interim technocratic government…that does not include members affiliated with Hamas” and made it known the U.S. expects the PA “to do everything in its power to prevent attacks from Gaza.” A European Union spokesman said it would insist that the new government recognize Israel’s right to exist. That will not happen.

Israel’s initial response was to announce plans to build 1,500 new housing units in Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, making it clear the decision was its retaliation for the creation of the Palestinian unity government with Hamas. Israel made it known it might withhold the taxes it collects on behalf of the PA. This is well short of a shooting war and, of course, the U.S. ambassador to Israel repeated the Obama administration’s longtime opposition to new settlement construction.

What exists at this point—and has for a long time—is an Israel that is an oasis of sanity in the Middle East in contrast to the conflicts occurring in the region’s other nations.

Obama’s plan to work with Hamas slammed by Israelis and U.S. lawmakers

by Jim Kouri on Thursday, June 5th, 2014

This is article 1190 of 1198 in the topic International

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli officials, and U.S. lawmakers on Monday night slammed U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry over their stated goal of working with the new Palestinian unity government that includes Hamas, a group designated by the United States and Israel as a terrorist organization.

“We are deeply disappointed by the comments made by the State Department regarding working with the Palestinian unity government,” Israeli officials said in a press statement. “The Palestinian government is backed by Hamas, a terrorist organization committed to [the] destruction of Israel.”

“If the U.S. administration wants to advance peace, it should be calling on Abbas to end his pact with Hamas and return to peace talks with Israel. Instead, it is enabling Abbas to believe it is acceptable to form a government with a terror organization,” they added in Monday night’s statement.

In addition, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued his response to the formation of a new Palestinian government that includes the Palestine Liberation Organization and Hamas: “It’s hard to see a government that embraces Hamas getting us closer to peace, much less helping its people. While the ‘unity government’ hides behind the facade of nonpartisan bureaucrats, it was only born out of support from Hamas – a terrorist organization that continues to call for Israel’s annihilation. Hamas is no partner for peace; nor a legitimate recipient of aid.”

TheU.S. State Department’s Jen Psaki said during Monday morning’s press briefing that the Obama administration especially the State Department intends to work with the newly formed Palestinian government which combines the Palestinian National Authority, headed by the recognized President Mahmoud Abbas, and the terrorist group Hamas.

TheIsraeli government officials said on Monday afternoon that they intend to uphold the April 24 suspension of their peace negotiations with the Palestinian leadership since they will not deal with a group whose goal is the annihilation of the Jewish State.

Israel’s cabinet also authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to impose addition economic sanctions against the Abbas’ PNA.

In addition, the Palestinian government will be made accountable for any terrorist bombings, missile and rocket attacks, or terrorist shootings emanating from either the PNA-controlled West Bank or the terrorist stronghold within the Gaza Strip.

While Obama And Kerry Slept

by Thomas E. Brewton on Monday, May 26th, 2014

This is article 1185 of 1198 in the topic International

Posturing in a vain attempt to persuade Abbas et al to forego the Muslim aim to destroy Israel, then blaming Israel for failure of peace negotiations, may be great PR moves for Obama and Kerry with their liberal-progressive, anti-Israel fanatics.  But focusing on that effort to bludgeon Israel left them blindsided by Russia and China.

The need is, not for the U.S. to engage in belligerent confrontation with Russia or China, but to abandon liberal-progressives’ fairy-land view of international relations.  Somebody, somewhere in the administration, ought to be continually looking as far ahead as possible to foresee potential problems and to anticipate the consequences of our own foreign policy.  Weakening our military capacities or reneging on commitments to our allies in the name of socialism’s fantasy of harmonious world government is dangerous and foolish.

The now consummated deal between Russia and China had been widely known for many months, except to Obama and Kerry, who get all their information, after the fact, from TV reports of problems, if we are to believe the excuses offered for the IRS’s criminal actions and mismanagement at VA hospitals.

Read David P. Goldman’s commentary on The New Sino-Russian Alliance.

Mr. Goldman writes, “I may have lost most of my remaining Republican friends for ridiculing the sanctions and saber-rattling at Russia over Ukraine. We spoke loudly and carried a small stick. What do you propose to do now, big talkers?”

No doubt, Obama and Kerry will solemnly intone, “There will be consequences,” a threat that foreign governments by now know is empty rhetoric.

Never Again, Again

by Daniel Greenfield on Friday, May 23rd, 2014

This is article 1183 of 1198 in the topic International

Steven Spielberg threw a Holocaust party and everyone, from Samuel L. Jackson to Kim Kardashian, was invited.

The gala evening for his Shoah Foundation began with a few jokes. Conan O’Brien’s, “I called all my Jewish writers into my office and asked them for some Shoah jokes” really killed. Bruce Springsteen  played “Dancing in the Dark” whose lyrics “you can’t start a fire without a spark” couldn’t possibly have been more appropriate considering that the literal meaning of Holocaust is “Sacrifice by fire.”

Obama slipped in after his DNC fundraiser with Barbara Streisand and Jeffrey Katzenberg to shake hands with a bunch of studio heads, Jewish and non-Jewish, and accept an award as Ambassador for Humanity. There was no explanation as to what an Ambassador for Humanity does. Maybe he reaches out to space aliens. Or tries to commune with fish.

Last summer, Obama had forced Israel to release the murderer of Isaac Rotenburg, an elderly Holocaust survivor who had escaped a death camp and reached Israel, only to be killed by a member of Palestinian Authority leader Abbas’ Fatah party.

Flanked by Spielberg and Springsteen, Obama told an audience of notables such as Kim Kardashian, Samuel L. Jackson, Tyler Perry, Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. about the importance of Holocaust survivors and how he would like to help the Nigerian girls kidnapped by an Islamic terrorist group that his administration fought to keep off the terrorist list, but he just can’t.

It’s hard to find the time to fight Nigerian Islamic terrorists when you’re so busy forcing Israel to free Islamic terrorists.

Cruise had delivered the introduction to the 2005 event at which Steven Spielberg appointed Bill Clinton as Ambassador to Humanity. Last year George Clooney, currently marrying a woman eager to defend every Muslim thug and terrorist, became Ambassador to Humanity. Before that it was the CEO of Walt Disney, the CEO of Comcast and Spielberg’s pal Jeffrey Katzenberg.

To be appointed Ambassador for Humanity you have to run a Hollywood studio or be a top Democrat. If Hillary Clinton isn’t named Ambassador for Humanity next year, it will only be because the world ended.

There was no word on whether Tony Kushner was in attendance. Kushner, Spielberg’s longtime collaborator, had called the rebirth of Israel a “mistake”, accused Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial and museum, of a “Zionist agenda” and said that reciting “Next Year in Jerusalem” at Passover was “imperialism”.

Spielberg had handed over the story of the PLO massacre of Israeli athletes to Kushner who turned it into an indictment of Israel and a defense of the terrorists. Munich was a work of historical revisionism justifying the murder of Jews and demonizing those Jews who fought back from a filmmaker who had built the “serious” phase of his career on exploiting the Holocaust.

Responding to the backlash, Spielberg called critics “right-wing fundamentalists” and said that, “people who are important to me” see the movie correctly, including, “Liberal American Jews.”

Now Spielberg is working on yet another Jewish themed project with Kushner.

The Israeli response to the Munich Massacre embodied a “Never Again” attitude to the Holocaust in the truest sense.

Obama’s Israeli-Palestinian mediator accused of anti-Israel beliefs

by Jim Kouri on Monday, May 19th, 2014

This is article 1182 of 1198 in the topic International

The U.S. mediator between Israel and the Palestinian leaders who was appointed by President Barack Obama and works closely with Secretary of State John Kerry was allegedly heard in a Washington, D.C., bar blaming Israel for the failures of the peace talk process, according to Israeli news source Arutz Sheva on Saturday.

Martin Indyk, Obama’s chief American negotiator, who works closely with Secretary Kerry in the peace talk process, was heard while drinking at a bar condemning the Jewish nation for its part in causing the peace talks to fail.

In a news story appearing in the Washington Free Beacon on Friday, correspondent Adam Kredo reported:

“A person who overheard the conversation told Washington Free Beacon that the 30-minute-long tirade included Indyk, his wife Gahl Burt, and several members of his staff. It took place right after he spoke at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), where he openly blamed Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria for the failure of the talks, despite the fact that a freeze of such building was not a precondition of talks.”

However, Indyk made no mention of the Palestinian Authority officials who allegedly torpedoed the peace talks by breaching conditions in a unilateral request to join 15 international conventions. The PA’s signing a unity deal with the terrorist group Hamas was never mentioned by Indyk during his alleged tirade against Israel’s leaders, accusing them of lacking any desire to achieve an Obama-led peace accord in the Middle East.

During Indyk’s discussion in the ‘Inside-the-Beltway” Ritz-Carlton Hotel bar, neither Indyk nor his companions were heard discussing any wrongdoing by Palestinian Authority. Also, there was no mention or criticism of Secretary Kerry’s own recent tirade in which he accused the Israelis of apartheid in their dealings with the Palestinian people.

Indyk’s appointment as the Obama administration’s mediator in talks between Israel and the Palestinians had been criticized by conservatives who support the Jewish State in its life-or-death struggle against Islamic terrorists. They based their anti-Indyk on the fact he’s a board member of a leftist group known as theNew Israel Fund.

The Middle East Cannot Be Ignored

by Alan Caruba on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014

This is article 1177 of 1198 in the topic International

Have you noticed that you’re not reading or hearing much about the Middle East these days?

That’s because, if there isn’t a war or revolution going on there, we tend not to take much notice. Our attention span for the civil war in Syria disappeared months ago despite the horrendous slaughter there.

It is likely that you were unaware that Obama’s National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, was in Israel from May 7 to 9 having talks with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu. That’s because neither the U.S., nor Israel issued a press notice. On May 12, Obama’s Secretary of Defense, Chuck Hagel arrived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to attend a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council defense ministers.

No American defense chief has attended for the past six years!

That inattention reflects President Obama’s policy of having no discernable policy regarding the Middle East beyond withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, promising billions to Pakistan, and doing his best to ignore Syria.

On June 4, 2009 as part of a trip to the Middle East he was in Cairo uttering a bunch of platitudes and misinterpretations of history that were typical of his wishful thinking about Islam. He said, “I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.”

Obama has a tough job given 9/11, the 2013 bombing of Boston’s marathon, the Syrian slaughter, the attacks on Christians throughout the Middle East, and news of the abduction of more than 230 school girls in Nigeria by Boko Haram, Islamist terrorists who reflect the region’s slim adherence to human rights of any kind.

A report in the Israeli newswire, DEBKA File, said, “The impression received in the Middle East capitals is that Barack Obama has adopted the old slogan of ‘Apres moi, le deluge!’—intending to leave his White House successor after January 2017 an Iran that is fully capable of manufacturing a nuclear weapon.”

Unlike the President, leaders of Middle East nations realize the threat that a nuclear-armed Iran represents and Saudi Arabia recently conducted the largest military exercise ever seen in the Gulf region. Officers from all the Gulf emirates except Qatar took part in the war game for the first time. It was a first for Egypt which like most of the Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, have declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization.

It has not gone unnoticed that “disengaging the U.S. military from the Middle East and its troubles leaves Hagel free to devote himself to implementing the president’s guidelines for shrinking America’s ground, air and naval forces.” Also on his schedule are visits to Amman, Jordan, and to Jerusalem.

David Bukay is a University of Haifa professor of Middle East Studies and author of Islamic Fundamentalism and the Arab Political Culture. In a May 2011 article posted on American, he offered “The Middle East Operational Codes: Five Keys to Understanding.”

They are worth revisiting.

#1 – The Middle Eastern state, with its political institutions being a Western import, is weak and ineffective compared to the indigenous Middle Eastern social institutions: the clan, the tribe, and the religious community. All Arab states comprise violent, hostile tribes and rival religious communities that stick together only by coercion from an oppressive authoritarian regime.

Dear John

by Daniel Greenfield on Sunday, May 11th, 2014

This is article 1176 of 1198 in the topic International

Dear John,

Every few years a messiah arrives in Jerusalem, shakes hands, makes demands and promises to make peace in our time. Then when the whole thing blows up in his face, he throws up his hands and flies back blaming the ungrateful Jews for not embracing his vision.

You must have known this would happen. So many false messiahs have come before you, squinting against the bright sunshine, muttering under their breath to aides and assistants, pounding the table at meetings, downing martinis and fantasizing about the Nobel Peace Prize that they were sure was waiting for them at the end.

And they left with nothing except sunburn and simmering rage.

Did you really think you would be any different? Were you so delusional that you imagined you could succeed where career diplomats with a lifetime of experience in the region had failed?

What convinced you that you were the negotiating genius that the conflict had been waiting for?

It’s not as if you had a good track record negotiating anything. Do you remember meeting Madame Binh in Paris? What about carrying Daniel Ortega’s peace offer after assuring everyone that he wasn’t a Communist? Right before he flew to Moscow. And let’s not gloss over your visit to Assad. Was that peace in the air or was it just the nerve gas?

I know you don’t have time to remember all your diplomatic triumphs. Or like Hillary, any of them.

When did you successfully negotiate anything, up to and including the purchase of your latest yacht?

You went to Paris to aid the Viet Cong. You went to Nicaragua to aid the FSLN terrorists. You went to Israel to aid the PLO. The USSR fell, but your old nostalgia for Communist guerrillas and killers hasn’t deserted you. It’s why you failed. And it’s why you’ll fail over and over again.

No matter what the PLO did, you blamed Israel. Just as no matter what the Viet Cong or the Sandinistas did, you blamed America.

The PLO can call for Israel’s destruction, champion terrorism and ally with Hamas, but one of your minions will still provide anonymous quotes saying that the PLO can’t be expected to negotiate while Israel possibly considers building houses in Jerusalem.

What’s a little thing like genocide compared to a house?

Israel is expected to free terrorists who murder elderly Holocaust survivors, but the delicate sensibilities of PLO terrorists are outraged whenever a Jewish family that they haven’t managed to murder yet moves into a home in Jerusalem.

Good negotiators can put their sympathies aside to achieve their goals. But you never could do that. No matter how many press releases you put out touting your special relationship with Israel, a relationship almost as special as the one your fellow Massachusetts senator had with a girl in a ’67 Oldsmobile whose drowned corpse turned up on the next day, you spoil it by threatening another intifada or calling Israel an Apartheid state. You lack the basic criteria of a diplomat. You’re a bad liar.

You show up to provide moral support to the murderers and go home as their useful idiot. That was the pitiful function you served in Paris, in Nicaragua and in Israel.

Israelis endure terrorist attacks while Kerry accuses Jews of apartheid

by Jim Kouri on Saturday, May 10th, 2014

This is article 754 of 773 in the topic Terrorism

While President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry attempted to cajole the Israeli government into compromising with the Palestinians — with Kerry even accusing the Jewish state of practicing apartheid — Israel endured a number of terrorist attacks including bombings, according to a report released by a think-tank in Israel on May 7. 2014.

During Kerry’s visits with Israeli government officials in April, there were 89 terrorist attacks within Israel’s borders. Eighty of them were carried out in Judea and Samaria while seven were perpetrated in Jerusalem. The remaining two attacks were perpetrated in other locations inside Israel, according to Meir Amit Information Center in Israel.

The majority of the terrorist attacks by Palestinian terrorist involved use of Molotov cocktails in 75 attacks. There were also 13 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) bombings and there was one attack involving alleged terrorist gunmen.

During the first week of May, the terrorist violence continued in Judea and Samaria, most of it attributed to the so-called “popular resistance.” Stones were thrown at Israeli civilians and Israeli security forces and Molotov cocktails were thrown at vehicles on main roads.

For example, Palestinian protesters threw rocks at a Jewish house located in east Jerusalem, with one of the stones hitting a security officer in his head. Israeli Border Police soldiers tried to disperse the Palestinians but they were also attacked with stones, according to Tazpit News Agency.

That same day, stones were thrown at an Israeli bus near northwest of Jerusalem, injuring a five-month-old infant. Meanwhile on May 6, 2014, stones were thrown at a civilian bus traveling from Hamzeh to the Israeli village of Adam. The bus was damaged, but there were no casualties, according to the same Tazpit news story.

This week, following a meeting of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Central Council, the Palestinians’ leaders debated the possibility of escalating and broadening the so-called “popular struggle.” They are quoted as saying that if the Palestinians should resume peace talks with Secretary Kerry and the Israeli negotiators the “peaceful popular struggle would have to be used as a means to exert pressure on Israel,” according to the Meir Amit.

“Unfortunately, the United States news media — always prepared to carry President’s Obama water — ignored reports of Palestinian terrorist activities and few news organizations reported on Secretary Kerry’s use of the loaded accusation that Israel practices apartheid against the ‘innocent’ Palestinian people,” said former police commander Lyle Zavilawitz.
