Black Conservatives Should be Listened To

by Jerry McConnell on Friday, May 11th, 2012

This is article 12 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

imageOn May 02, 2012, one of America’s bravest warriors spoke out against the tyranny of the liberal Democrat establishment.

No, he’s not one of our brave military warriors fighting against our enemies in the world of terrorism or the scarred fighting fields of Afghanistan instead, he is fighting the stubbornness of his fellow black Americans in an attempt to wake them up to the fact that the liberal Democrats in America are using them to make themselves look like saviors while burying them deeper in the dregs of indebtedness and abject or hopeless poverty.

That brave warrior is Lloyd Marcus, a black conservative, and he spoke out against liberal Democrat tyranny in an article titled “The ultimate appeal to persuade fellow blacks to stop voting Democrat” on May 02, 2012 online, in the freedom and democracy loving Canada Free Press (CanadaFreePress.com) which touts in its masthead, “Because without America there is no Free World.”

Marcus explains in his article that for years he has struggled to explain to fellow black Americans why they should join him in not voting for Democrats running for office.  He gets peeved at liberal black authors and philosophers who say that white America abuses blacks and then call for more government funded programs when all they are looking for are more “government entitlement freebies.”

I am inclined to agree with Mr. Marcus when he states that “The Democratic Party leadership has been infiltrated by arrogant power hungry liberals who think they know better than you how to run your life.”  But I might add that those power hungry liberals are both black and white, that think all problems are solved by throwing government taxpayer dollars at them. I also have this feeling that a lot of that sort of money finds ways of sticking to the fingers of those who want to do the throwing.

Though these misguided politicians number in the hundreds in our Congress, a prime example lies with a Georgia Representative named John Lewis who always has a scurrilous word ready for any white person who tries to halt the excessive spending that is so prevalent in our Congress when such spending is being programmed for the black communities in America.  And if the truth were known I would bet that he would feel the same about black conservatives as well.

Representative Lewis gained much notoriety some years ago in Congress when he was a champion of reparations to current black citizens in America for the atrocities of the slave days in this country.  He called for the United States government to make payments to current black citizens as a form of punishment to the white slave traders of the earlier centuries.  However, it was widely known that many of the slave traders were black Africans themselves.

Marcus identifies two noted black conservatives that are of the same mind and disposition as he, and they frequently speak out at the futility of the black people who wholeheartedly trust those who lead them to believe that Democrats are their saviors while Republicans who are mainly of the conservative value status are going to abuse them.

The two black conservatives Marcus refers to are Professor Walter Williams and Dr.

How to Show Your Kids They’re Conservative

by American Grams on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

This is article 11 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

A young woman was just about to finish up her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, she was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs. In other words, redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a staunch Conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. She shared with her father that she felt that many of the topics she and her professor went over were true. But he father interrupted her to ask how she was doing in school.

She responded that she was doing very well. She had earned a 4.0 GPA throughout her first year.

Asked how she came to achieve such high marks, the young woman said she made school a priority and worked very hard to do so. She managed her time well, did her homework and studied when she needed to, and did not spend an excess of time goofing off or partying.

The father asked how one of her friends Mary was doing in school.

The young woman responded that Mary was doing terribly and had only earned a 2.0 GPA. After being asked why, the young woman said that Mary just wasn’t working as hard, she was out partying most nights, and made very little effort to manage her time and make school a priority.

Her father then asked her, “Well, why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him if he could deduct a point off of your GPA and add that to Mary’s, that way both of you will have a 3.0 GPA?”

The daughter, visibly shocked by the suggestion, responded, “That’s a crazy idea! I worked hard for my grades while Mary has been messing around. I deserve my grades after all the hard work I have put in!”

The father slowly smiled, winked, and said, “Welcome to the conservative’s philosophy.”

Palin and Romney, Romance and Resignation, at CPAC

by Michael Medved on Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

This is article 10 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

Mitt Romney may have won the straw poll but Sarah Palin won CPAC’s heart—electrifying the Conservative Political Action Conference with one of the most rousing and effective political speeches of recent years. Both winners managed to advance the cause of conservative unity and raised the prospects for a competitive and formidable Republican challenge to Barack Obama’s re-election.

Romney’s win among conservative activists, especially combined with his simultaneous victory in the Maine caucuses completed on Saturday, will help to change the over-stated and misleading media narrative about Mitt’s supposed inability to connect with his party’s conservative base.

After spending three days at CPAC with a mob of 10,000 engaged activists, I can report with first-hand assurance that there’s scant accuracy to all the reports of the right wing feeling dispirited or lackadaisical about the upcoming campaign. On my radio show (which I broadcast live from the site of the conference) I described the occasion as a “conservative Woodstock—without the drugs and without the nudity.” Most certainly, a festive atmosphere prevailed, with hordes of well-scrubbed, eager-eyed, college-age volunteers and the vast majority of participants falling below the age of 55. All three of the presidential candidates who spoke got rousing receptions, as did any speaker (virtually all of them) who pronounced the words “most important election of our lifetime” and identified victory in November as an essential for national salvation. Ron Paul declined to participate this year for reasons that remain unclear (he won the straw poll the last two years) but his son, Senator Rand Paul, represented the libertarian family business with a good-natured but low-voltage pitch in his papa’s behalf.

Gingrich in his Friday afternoon address exploded with energy and ideas, trying to live up to his reputation for unlikely political revivals as the GOP version of The Round Mound of Rebound. He used the word “establishment” so frequently that anyone who was playing a drinking game at home, toasting every invocation of these arrogant elites, would have plastered himself into insensibility. His acolytes cheered and shrieked but he underperformed in the straw poll with 15 percent—less than half the support of either Santorum or Romney. His supporters at CPAC seemed for the most part dejected and resentful and outnumbered, even before the announcement of the poll results late Saturday afternoon. Their only real contribution to the proceedings involved a snarky handout where they (falsely) announced the topic of Romney-supporter Ann Coulter’s speech as “Why I Love Obamaneycare.” I spoke to Ann after her ecstatically received address and she was less than amused.

There was also nothing amusing or energizing about Rick Santorum’s appearance mid-day on Friday. He made the terrible mistake of asking his wife, Karen, and six of his kids to stand behind him as he spoke, where they looked like a particularly wholesome and youthful police lineup, squirming uncomfortably and wearing blank or sour expressions as their pater familias delivered a lengthy address. Anyone familiar with political advance work knows that it’s great to introduce your family on stage, but please allow the poor, put-upon props to take a seat and relax before you launch into a half hour campaign speech.

Santorum’s talk also projected a whining, sanctimonious air that seemed out of sync with the spirit of the occasion.

Michael Shannon CPAC Report Day 2

by Michael R. Shannon on Sunday, February 12th, 2012

This is article 9 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

Friday at CPAC began with a kickoff address by former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Those of you that felt Huckabee was looking a bit gaunt after his 110–pound weight loss can stop worrying. This year’s model is significantly larger than last year’s, although it does not approach the 300 plus pounds he reached at his peak.

Huckabee initially focused on the Obama administration’s recent decision to force Catholic hospitals to provide contraception and abortion services. “I want to say a great big thank you to President Obama. You have done more than any other person in the Republican field to unite this party. Thank you for doing what none of us has done.”

He went on to say that Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is his nominee for person of the year. “John F. Kennedy once said that we are all Berliners. Thanks to President Obama, today we are all Catholics.”

Huckabee echoed Thursday’s speakers that characterized the decision not as a question of providing medical services, but as a direct violation of the First Amendment to the Constitution, explaining that when we devalue a life that is unborn, we ultimately devalue a life that is born.

Republicans policies also came in for criticism. Huckabee reminded the packed auditorium that he was one of the few that opposed the TARP bailout in the closing days of the Bush administration. His advice to Republicans was to apologize to America for creating the idea that it’s okay to bail companies out of the consequences of their own bad decisions. “Too big to fail also contains the mindset that some are too small to matter,” he explained.

Huckabee concluded by saying that although he had not endorsed any candidate in this year’s Republican race, voters can be assured that whoever wins the nomination will be more conservative than Obama and deserves their vote in November.

If you want a mobile Vice Presidential candidate who is not teleprompter dependent and has not expressed strong feelings regarding the very poor, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is just your man.

McDonnell startled the audience and the some of the CPAC technical staff when he began walking to and fro across the stage during his Friday morning address. Much of McDonnell’s speech obliquely stressed his Vice Presidential qualifications by running through his resume and focusing on the record of his administration.

A record that includes overcoming the deficit left by outgoing Democrat Gov. and current US Senate candidate Tim Kaine, an unemployment rate two points below the national average and a return to the spending levels of 2007,

McDonnell characterized the Presidential election as a battle to preserve the American Dream. The choice between a vision of Constitutionally limited government and a constantly expanding federal government.

“Today we have a surplus of rhetoric and a deficit of results in the United States,” McDonnell stressed.

His solution is ROC: Results Oriented Conservatives.

In contrast to much of the discussion of illegal immigration, McDonnell reminded that his family came to the US from Ireland. And now, 100 years later, he sits in the governor’s office holding the same position held by Thomas Jefferson.

Which, come to think of it, also applies to the office of Vice President.

Michael Shannon CPAC Report Day 1

by Michael R. Shannon on Sunday, February 12th, 2012

This is article 8 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

The 39th annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) conference kicked off today with a prayer long enough to be listed on the program. Which is an important consideration in a conference this large. Some 6,000 conservative activists are gathered today, Friday and Saturday in Washington, DC to hear conservative speakers and attend workshops designed to prepare them for the coming election.

The agenda is so packed one must ruthlessly prune the less interesting sessions to concentrate on the more valuable, since every session has competition from other speakers and trainers.

Do I listen to Speaker of the House John Boehner (R–OH) bring the house down with a barn–burner of a speech? Or do I suffer crippling depression during a session about the massive debt that is the current and future legacy of the Obama administration?

Decisions, decisions.

Today’s speakers include Boehner, Sen. Jim DeMint (R–SC), Sen. Marco Rubio (R–FL), Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–KY) and Rep. Michele Bachmann (R–MN).

DeMint began with a spirited defense of playing to win. Compromise, according to the senator, is fine when both parties have shared goals; as in a marriage. But compromise does not work when the two parties have opposing goals.

Democrats want to spend regardless of how much it adds to the debt. Conservatives want to cut spending. Any compromise you make with spenders always involves more spending. It’s like an alcoholic compromising with his wife by agreeing to drink Ancient Age instead of Maker’s Mark. He’s still passed out on the sofa at the end of the evening.

DeMint contends that with the current makeup of Congress, Republican conservatives have no shared goals with Democrats.

His solution is more conservatives in Congress, but particularly in the Senate, which is currently a mortuary for conservative legislation.

So far no sighting of the herd of Occupy parasites that boasted about occupying CPAC, just a number of DC police cars. But the day is young. Next up is Sen. Rubio, candidate of the future.

Sen. Marco Rubio was introduced as a future resident at 1600 Pennsylvania and they may have a point. He gave a good speech that was summed up in his statement, “The greatest thing we can do for the world is be America.”

Evidently, Rubio wants to start this by producing a conservative government where people are comfortable cleaning out their garages and making enough room to start a new business, rather than using it to store a stockpile of bottled water and freeze–dried food for the apocalypse.

Rubio’s conservatism includes tax reform, sensible regulations and an emphasis on the Constitution of the US rather than that of South Africa. He stressed that the current controversy over Obama’s unprecedented order that forces Catholic institutions to provide birth control and abortions is not a social issue.

And I agree. Making it a social issue makes it “divisive” and part of the “abortion controversy,” that makes it intractable and beyond solving. Rubio points out the obvious and demonstrates the unprecedented order is a Constitutional issue and imminently solvable, if you follow the plain language of the Constitution.

Rubio also pointed out that any candidate who is in favor of leaving Medicare alone, is a candidate who is in favor of bankrupting Medicare.

Conservatism 101 for those not paying attention

by Lloyd Marcus on Saturday, November 26th, 2011

This is article 7 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

You and I are politically well informed. But there are many Americans like my family who do not follow politics as closely as we do. Their political views are shaped by liberal media bias hit pieces, spin and sound bites.

99.9 % of my family are democrats because Marcus family traditional taught us the democrats are “for the little guy.” Republicans are “rich white racists.” Liberal media and the Democratic Party jointly support and promote this silly simple lie which still wins the democrats 95% of the black vote.

Despite me, the eldest of his five children being a black conservative tea party Republican, my 84 year old dad’s negative view of Republicans remains steadfast. Dad tolerates my baffling political views because he loves me.

However, I would not be surprised if my family scheduled an intervention. A black van pulls up, a hood is thrown over my head and I’m carted off to an undisclosed location. I am denied food, water, bathroom privileges and subjected to video of Obama speeches 24/7 until I break.

It occurred to me that my family like many Americans are probably clueless regarding the truth of what it means to be a liberal and a conservative. Ironically, the majority of my family lives extremely responsible “conservative” lives. They go to work every day, serve their communities, attend church and raise their kids. And yet, the liberal media has lead them to believe the term “conservative” equals evil white racist.

So, I would like to offer my family and others a little “Conservatism 101.” For fun, let’s call it “Conservatism for Dummies.”

Let us begin with a parable.

Tale of Two Dads- School is Difficult and Little Johnny Wishes to Stay Home.

Little Johnny says, “Dad I don’t want to go to school. The kids are mean and the work is too hard!”

Liberal Dad replies, “I know just how you feel son. School was no picnic for me either. Stay home today.”

Conservative Dad replies, “Boy, you had better get your butt out of that bed and get ready for school. I’ll talk to the principal and your teachers to work out any problems. An education is vital to your future success and happiness. I’m forcing you to go to school because I love you!”

I am not suggesting Liberal Dad does not love his child. But Liberal Dad’s attempt to be his child’s friend rather than a responsible parent is a spineless choice all about making himself feel good.

Patently liberal. Most liberal thinking and choices are about making themselves feel good as opposed to truly helping the people they claim to feel great compassion towards.

Conservative Dad’s reply was that, not of a friend, but a responsible loving parent.

Liberalism is a religion. Despite failing whenever implemented, disciples of Liberalism faithfully believe if they can spend a little more of “other people’s money,” they can bring forth their godless utopia where man is the ultimate authority. Atheists tend to embrace Liberalism.

Conservatism equals true/real compassion; rooted in common sense and honoring the human spirit. Conservatism celebrates achievement and a desire to be all one can be.

Liberalism is harmful and idiotic, while shrouded in so-called compassion. For example. Teachers at an LA school wanted Ebonics to be acceptable speech for black students.

Bill Whittle: ‘One Thing About Being a Conservative is You Don’t Have to Lie’

by Donald Douglas on Saturday, October 29th, 2011

This is article 6 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

Funny, but that’s exactly the opposite of progressives: They lie about everything.

See: “WFP Interviews Bill Whittle.” Talking about how he frames arguments and creates his video productions, Whittle says that “the great thing about being a conservative is you don’t have to lie and you don’t have to invent stuff…”

Yeah, that is a great thing, at about 3:00 minutes:

The Kansas Conservative Movement: A Realization of Power and Responsibility

by Paul A. Ibbetson on Saturday, August 13th, 2011

This is article 7 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

If you have ever watched a “super hero” movie you will hear at some point the cautionary warning that, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Those are wise words indeed but what if an individual doesn’t know that he or she has a unique power worthy of being considered “super,” let alone the responsibility that goes along with it? Thus enter the people of the state of Kansas.

The conservative majority in what I call the beautiful flatlands of Kansas continually do what is right in the face of liberal opposition. Day in and day out there are examples of regular people stepping forward and not just fighting for the values of God, family and country, but also winning the day; yes, winning the day and returning to the regular work of daily life with little fanfare or celebration. This appears to be the routine of the unsung hero and after observing Kansas heroism for my entire lifetime, I don’t believe most Kansans require nor look for a pat on the back for doing what is right. However, because of our state’s significant influence on the national stage as a whole, and the monumental challenges facing all Americans today, it is time to give an account of some of the instances when Kansans have stepped forward against liberal opposition and were heroes.

In 2005, in the heat of the Defense of Marriage Act debate, liberals within Kansas and across the nation attempted to push conservatives within the state into bypassing an initiative to vote on whether or not marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Liberal politicians in Topeka appeared ready to stand firm on refusing an amendment vote, while hundreds of conservatives across the state went to the state capital and discussed, lobbied, and prayed that our government would let the people vote on the issue. During this period, liberals attempted the very same demonization that is now heaped upon the Tea Parties of this state, by saying that Kansans who believed in traditional values were “hate mongers, intolerant, prejudiced,” and the list goes on. After a lengthy battle, the people of Kansas were allowed to vote on the issue and 70 percent of state voters stated their desire for marriage to be only between a man and a woman. Following this hard-fought victory in Kansas, states such as Wisconsin, Virginia, Tennessee, South Dakota, South Carolina, Idaho, Colorado, Arizona, Florida and even California would vote for traditional marriage. What one state can do, so can another.

It’s not that Kansas is always a conservative bastion of perfection. We lose our way from time to time. What makes us unique, or might I say heroic, as a state is that our moral compass is directed by people who will acknowledge their mistakes and will make the often-painful course corrections when necessary. A salient example, and one mentioned far less than it should be, was the massive conservative victory against the country’s most liberal homosexual bill created and passed in Manhattan, Kansas. On February 8, 2011, a liberal majority within Manhattan’s city government with support from a homosexual advocacy group, Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, and Transgender (LGBT) pushed through an anti-discrimination ordinance alteration that created arbitrary punishments for traditional Kansans, and ran counter to the values of Christians.

Conservatives Are Too #@*%# Nice

by Burt Prelutsky on Saturday, April 30th, 2011

This is article 3 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

Recently, I was thrown for a loop when a friend of mine said he could no longer regard himself as a Republican because he lacked what he referred to as the mean gene.

I tried not to take it personally. But my own tender feelings aside, I found it a shocking statement because, from my perspective, most of the really nasty people I know are Democrats. In fact, my main objection to conservatives is that they tend to be too polite, too mealy-mouthed, too damn reluctant to confront liberals.

Those on the Left never grow tired of labeling conservatives as racists, fascists and homophobes, while those on the Right suggest with their wimpy denials that there just might be some truth to the charges. As Daniel Greenfield once wrote, “They don’t have to silence us if we silence ourselves.”

Donald Trump

There are racists in America, but for the most part they’re to be found in the black population and among those in the Democratic party who patronize blacks and Hispanics in exchange for their votes. When liberals refer to black Republicans and black members of the Tea Party as “Uncle Toms” and “oreos,” what is that but blatant racism? But that is invariably the fate of those blacks who dare to wander off the liberal plantation.

It annoys me that conservatives are so unwilling to speak the truth about, say, the Black Congressional Caucus, which is, along with the Aryan Brotherhood, probably one of the two most racist groups in the country. The difference between the two outfits is that the members of the Brotherhood produce and sell crystal meth to other creeps, while the knuckleheads in the Caucus help make our laws and squander our tax dollars.

Two short years ago, half a dozen members of the Caucus visited Cuba and came back praising Fidel Castro. It reminded me of the useful idiots who visited the Soviet Union in the 1930s and returned to the U.S., ballyhooing Stalin’s bloody regime. The very same folks who brought back glowing reports about the Cuban thug spend most of their waking hours playing the race card, slandering the Tea Party and fully supporting every idiotic notion concocted by Barack Obama. Congress, being what it is, it’s hard to imagine that any relatively small group could have brought additional disgrace to it, but Bobby Rush, Emanuel Cleaver, Mel Watt, Marcia Fudge, Laura Richardson and Michael Honda, the Havana Six, somehow managed.

A question worth considering is how it was that many years ago, black Americans organized to banish “Amos ‘n’ Andy” from TV because it allegedly maligned the image of blacks, and now, all these years later, blacks not only don’t utter an honest word about these political hacks, but keep re-electing them. At least, unlike second-rate clowns like John Conyers, Charley Rangel, Keith Ellison, John Lewis, Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee, “Amos ‘n’ Andy” managed to be funny intentionally.

Another question I have for my fellow conservatives is why they have continued donating money to those alma maters that banished the ROTC or military recruiters from their campuses. Maybe it’s just me, but I find it difficult to reconcile claiming to be patriotic while supporting unpatriotic institutions.

Have Patience, People, the New Kids on the Block in Congress Are Coming Around

by Jerry McConnell on Monday, February 14th, 2011

This is article 4 of 12 in the topic Conservatives

Recently I have been hearing discouraging words coming from many conservative sources moaning over the lack of things promised by the 2010 candidate not being accomplished.

This is not sitting well with me and many others; for one thing it is just over three months since the conservatives wrested control of the House of Representatives from the high flying, big spending, maximum government liberal Democrats.

We shouldn’t expect these new kids on the block to be able to correct four solid years of damage in three months.  Sure there are a sizeable number of “veteran” type legislators in this session of the House, but due to the extra large number of “rookies” in training, job orientation procedures take a little bit of time for proper organization.

And as expected, those “rookies” are growing into their jobs and promises pretty rapidly to my way of thinking.  They will develop into a formidable force of good for the country, including the continued elimination of the “ME FIRST” socialist liberals who never consider the needs of the nation as a priority.

These ‘what’s-in-it-for-me’ hacks whose first duties are to find all the loopholes and loose planks so they can ferret goodies into their own pockets and then what’s left over to their “nanny” state constituents who want their welfare checks and other government handouts increased.

In an Investors Business Daily (IBD) Editorial this past week on 02-10-11 titled, “New Congress Means Business” the writer(s) as much as verified my earlier contentions that these newcomers absolutely did come to Washington to get to work for the people; ALL the people not just the ones with their hands out and moaning the loudest.

As the editorial said, there was a “welcome sign of backbone” when they sank a $2.4 billion pork program.  In addition, our new and energy activated House deliberately let a lavish worker retraining program called Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) expire without renewal.  As the IBD Editorial stated, “This decades-old program ‘porked’ up by the Stimulus money-wasting venture of Obama, was prized by Big Union Labor” and they are still crying in their towels looking for revenge.

Other cost-saving and government reducing legislation House Resolutions were passed recently, that as IBD indicates, were test cases for cutting government spending and GOP vows to cut even ObamaCare funds and the overall budget; now the White House knows the conservative House of Congress is serious.

  • HR 2 is a Resolution to repeal the famous (infamous ?) ObamaCare health care law, which was passed with Democratic help.
  • HR 9 is a Resolution to replace the job-killing health care law – Passed.
  • HR 22 reduces salaries and expenses of Member committee and leadership offices in 2011 & 2012 – Passed.
  • HR 43 reduces non-security spending to the lower 2008 levels – Passed
  • HR 359 Eliminates government financing of presidential election campaigns and conventions – Passed.

The $2.4 billion Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) was a pet project not only of the big labor unions, but also the AFL-CIO and Obama’s Department of Labor which is definitely not working for the American people who pay them, but for the big labor unions that donated millions to Obama’s presidential campaign in 2007 and 2008.
